I always have two altos and two tenors, (back-ups). I bought the Supreme Alto and it is, without any qualification, the absolute best alto I have ever played in every possible way. So I turned right around and bought the Supreme Tenor and, once again, it is the best tenor I have ever played. Each instrument has many small improvements and a few BIG improvements. Both are in the shiny gold lacquer. I am actually thinking of trading in my Ref. 36 Flamingo Tenor and my Yanagisawa 992 in gold plate. One extra word: With both of my Sepremes the difference was at first fairly slight. But once I got more comfortable with each the differences became very profound. I am 75 years old and I have been playing professionally for 58 years. My review is not coming from a novice. My advice: If you can afford the price see if you can find an in-store trial for about one hour or an at-home trial for a few days. All my best, Art

I have a series 1 tenor and absolutely love it. Full big warm sound and awesome ergonomics. They are not as expensive as the other models of Selmer so don't hesitate if one like this pops up! Greetings from 🇧🇪👋

I once played an 88xxx mark6 side by side to my 93xxx , the sound was nearly identical. Sometimes these high prices are not reasonable. I believe to 90% its the player. Just look up Marius Neset. He plays on the infamous mark 7 , just because he prefers it over the mark 6 .

Reference could be better than mark vi.

Again, the player vs the instrument - could be a Chinese knock-off (which I tried, don't recommend!), or a vintage Selmer - doesn't matter unless the chops serve - case in point with this sax aficionado, ending off cheerily with 'The Office' - scoundrel! The right reed and mouthpiece, plus daily practice, will get you to your horn. Just avoid the Chinese knock-offs - not worth the metal or time they provide! Go a little deeper in the pocket, and feel safe in a trusted brand 👍🙏✨️

Can you guys do some comparisons between purple logo yamaha 62 and more modern 62 or 82z/875ex? Also maybe like reference 54 vs some top end yamahas like 62 purple or 82z?

Tried all 3 out plus the LeBravo and honestly the 480 felt the best to me but that’s likely because it’s supposed to be the easiest blowing of the Yamaha big 3 (480,62,875’s). Still I understand that there should be some minor upgrades to the 62 and 875 but as it’s been explained from Yamaha themselves the 480 is basically the original 62 with some modern upgrades and able to take all the custom necks. I noticed very little between the design of the 480 and 62 side by side besides the springs and ribbed construction neither of which make much difference to me as all the vintage horns has stainless steel springs and still going strong. Add to that with all the lower level new horns that have blue steel springs and pizoni pads when I ask techs at Sweetwater and other places they could care less and still say the 480 is better as it’s the only one that’s really a pro level horn in that category because it’s basically the 62. So I made the decision to go with the 480 after researching and researching all the differences. I will admit I really liked playing the LeBravo though. Just wasn’t enough to overcome the rest of Yamahas advantages.

Thank you for this video!! Extremely helpful for my daughter who plays a Tenor Saxophone in her high school band. They have upcoming concerts in December and January. She had to have knee surgery last week and now has crutches and then even after crutches, the weights she is allowed to carry while walking will be limited. I was able to watch this video and quickly get this weight information to her physical therapist. We don't have a postal scale, so this was very useful for us. My daughter now has a physical therapy goal of being able to walk across the stage with the saxophone by the January concert!!
