    Great vid Trottie, middle ground is where most should be I imagine. Also there’s a reason why most LPGA pro’s carry 2 hybrids & if we look at their swing speeds they’re far more likely to be equal to or faster than most amateurs so they’re likely a good bag set up to copy

    • @erikrobertson1327
      @erikrobertson1327 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I have always found it interesting people model their bags after PGA setups when LPGA swing speeds are MUCH more comparable to your average golfer.

    Used to love my blade 2 and 3 irons back in the day. I’ve been using a 7 wood for a while now and it’s great for me from 185 to 205. A lot of the times I feel it’s a scoring club on par 3”s. I’ll attack almost any pin with this thing. Not to mention it’s a 2004 model. So it’s super compact and has a v shaped leading edge. Super versatile.

      I was the same. I think the problems with long irons now is modern lofts. The 7 wood is great off the tee, lies, and the ball flight. Also modern greens are much faster than in the old days, so the higher ball flight helps too.

    Great video, Trottie! I think most amateur players just struggle to produce the clubhead speed to hit long irons well enough. Your clubhead speed with that 3 iron is roughly my driver speed and that and forgiveness is why I carry a 3 hybrid. Granted my 5i is 22° so extremely strong but the CG is designed to get the ball up much easier (Taylormade '21 M4s). By the way, I was super happy to find your personal channel today. Subscribed immediately, my friend!

    Never considered a 7 wood, always used a hybrid. Was playing around one day and picked one up, tried it out - just curious, and has been in the bag ever since. The hybrid was ok but not great. Then I looked at amateur stats on approach shots using a hybrid vs a 7 and was stunned. The 7 is so much more forging and almost as flexible. On super windy days, I'll put the hybrid in the bag as the 7 flies very high. This club has probably saved me 2 shots a round. My favorite club.

      @@trottiegolf I’m fortunate. My swing is pretty simple and if I have to take a long break it really only takes me 3-4 rounds to get back into things. I also have a big back yard I practice wedges in all the time. I’ve been thinking about a mini as well in 13.5. My current setup is driver, 3w, 7w 4-pw, 50*, 56*, and 60*. I only use 3wood off the tee when driver is too much distance wise. I almost never use it off the deck. That’s why I’m considering a mini. But that’ll have to wait for now. It’s summer and I’m a single Dad of 4 boys. I play most of my golf in fall, spring, and winter when I have weekdays off and they’re at school. Thanks for the info man! I love my 4 hybrid, high launch shaft to really rip at a ball and off the tee it is great. But when I do play into wind, that 3 iron is a sick low spin option off the tee to just roll a ball 200-250 out there. I didn't get the differences as much until I watched this video on launch & spin. Now I know why the 3 iron is the safe option on a windy day off the tee.

    Another great video, I alternate between a Titleist T100S 3 iron and a Taylormade Stealth Plus hybrid (19 degrees) depending on course setup and conditions, my 3 iron is amazing off the tee especially on links courses while my hybrid is much better on approach shots into par 5s and really long par 4s on american style golf courses plus it is good out of poor lies, I just find that most 7 woods launch too high possibly due to my steep angle of attack.

  • @christianvachon2235
    @christianvachon2235 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video! I think that long irons are great on Links course off the tee. The 7 wood is great on course with firm greens, but its good in all lies. I find that the rescue is not a great option because its like no man's land. In some rough conditions yes, and on course with lots of shallow bunkers on par 5s. The thing is too, is modern lofts are so much stronger than in the past.

    Quick question I value your answer on..
    If someone were struggling with lag, could it be beneficial to go with a regular flex instead of the stiff flex they were fitted into to create more lag??

    • @trottiegolf

    #1) what is the difference in the dynamic gold 120 and the KBS 120?
    #2) Fitter said the p770 were running way behind, I won't get mine until May/June will they be the 2022 version P770?

      I really wish I could go back and replay exactly what that TM rep told me because he was pretty knowledgeable and had as much equipment and shafts at his two tents at demo day than Ping, Srixon/Cleveland, wilson, and one other tent combined...
      He said the dynamic gold 120 p770 combo I wanted will not be available until May and then he uttered something after that about...." it will be pretty much the same iron, only some slight changes...."
      Now did he say they're going to update the p770 sometime later this year and it will be pretty much the same with just some minor changes or what- I don't know?
      but when I contacted TaylorMade via phone and email they were not super knowledgeable, but assured me the newest p770 was released in 2020 and has *not* been updated since.....
      Here's the weird thing, you go online and you see retailers selling the 2020 p770 or also they will have the *2021* p770? but shouldn't those to be the exact same heads because the club hasn't been updated since 2020?
      Do they mean the year when they received their inventory maybe?
      TaylorMade is normally on a two-year schedule for updating their irons i believe...
      So I'm confused.
      but I'm almost certain there is NO new p770 coming out within the next month or two...
      But what did that rep say i wish i remembered....."___________________... and it will be pretty much the same p770 iron head, with just some minor changes"
      I know I heard him right and he knew his equipment pretty well so was he foreshadowing something I don't know.
      Was he telling me don't worry if they update the P770 at the end of the year because it will be pretty much the same as what you're ordering now?
      Wish somebody had some information cuz you're right there's nothing online

      @@BuffaloNickel9 thanks mate! You’re correct that there’s currently no newer model than the 2020 product you were fit for - the P770s that Harry Higgs currently plays. Any website saying 2021 is just a date error as you mention. Based on what you’ve written there regarding the DG 120gram combo that wasn’t available until May, could he have simply meant that the other shaft combo you ended up going with will be basically the same feeling/performance with some minor differences to the dynamic gold? Maybe Trottie can chime in with some insider knowledge on any upcoming release 😅

      I just got fit for a Ping 7 wood. We lowered the loft to fill the gap I needed (more of a 4 wood) but now the face is square to open by lowering the loft. I can’t hit it left! Amazing. You could do the same with a 9 wood to achieve the carry distance you’re looking for. Don’t care what number is stamped on the bottom of the club. Only care about how far I carry it.

    Get rid of the 60 degree and throw in the 3 iron and the 7 wood 😝💪

    what degree is the hybrid?

    Long iron = shank/hosel rocket/small sweet spot. Hybrid= no hosel, no shank. Hot face. Bigger sweet spot, but not big enough for a high handicapper. 5-7 wood= Longer shaft. Bigger head and sweet spot. Easiest for high handicapper to hit.

      @@trottiegolf Understand all that. It's not about you switching to a hybrid or 7 wood. But it's about how being "fitted" for both of those would improve , or should, your ball flight and numbers. Then you're comparing a fitted 3 iron v fitted hybrid- 7 wood. More apples to apples. Rather than fitted v stock. Or just hit a stock 3 iron v stock others. If you see this point.. Otherwise it's still a nice instructional vid.
