That *would* actually make a lot of sense. I wouldn't be surprised if it was what happened. Because I think we can all agree that it's crazy suspicious how these overblots are happening so close together when they're supposedly so rare; it's weird and contaminated magestones would explain it.

i think it's a really good theory and it makes sm sense! like crowley's super sketchy and unreliable so i can see him experimenting w/ blot and stuff like that. for a while i thought the magestone mc and grim got to replace the chandelier has been causing the overblots since they got it from a mine where there was a blot monster. and overblots are supposed to be super rare and to our knowledge have only been happening consistently for one school year, which is the school year the chandelier was replaced. but i think if crowley's not the one causing the overblots, it could be that the magestone from the chandelier absorbed blot in the mine and could be contaminating the current students'

But then again Crowley did admit that the chairman did make him the headmage so.. it might be the chairman instead but idk..

Hi, Two months after this has been posted and just need to say something that I thought of whilst watching. As you mentioned that Phantoms can blend in with direbeasts such as Grim, It made me think. What if Grim is a phantom that somehow formed enough sentience, after the original creator died, to have better control over his emotions and impulses. This could also explain why Grim is so attracted to blot stones whenever they are nearby. This could be disproved via the tests that they ran in styx, however Grim may be a phantom gone wrong or not a full phantom which is why the variations in blot accumulation are so drastic. Another srastic theory is that Grim is our future phantom when the MC is exposed to too much blot after all these overblots and somehow got infected, then Grim was created and causes a disaster in which someone (Probably Crowley) had to go back in time to stop the disaster from happening but accidentally, when teleporting the MC back, brought Grim along. And Grim, who had not been formed at that time, became some sort of half phantom.
Just a theory though and probably incorrect but who knows❤

This obviously support my "MC has Blot Manipulation" Theory
And the fact the Overblot Boys fight their Phantoms by their Overblot form just support that too. Imagine these boys manipulate blots via Overblot, it sounds sick.

Interesting theory! But for me I don't think that's the case I feel like instead it's someone else making them happen! But regardless I'm very interested to hear your theory for Yuu/MC

This is really interesting! I think there was a scene where Crowley was collecting Blotstones post OB, so this would make sense if he was the perpetrator.
And it's cool that you cought on to Lilia's Magestone History lecture. It sparked another theory for me. I mentioned this elsewhere too, but I think Magestone size can affect Overblot probabilities. To digress, a big enough Magestone, like Lilia's Magearm, could pretty much guarantee that you don't OB. Lilia himself is proof as despite being a war vet, he never OB'd regardless of the environment & lifestyle. But the humans started mass-distributing them, which would result in a reduction in size.
Back to present day, something that's not discussed often is how the blot in the Magestones are used as ink for the pens. So hypothetically; if a school staff member was intentionally messing with the curriculum to increase physical classes & decrease theory lessons, the students would have less time & chances to clear out their pens.

1:48 the fact that in the prologue were sent to retrieve a mage stone where a phantom has been there for who knows how long and was always in contact and being very close to it for probably YEARS. It definitely had to absorb the negativity and blot that the phantom was made of. I think that’s why the mines were shut down too since that phantom emerged, the people who would mine for these stones knew that the mine was contaminated now and no stones would form properly for safe use and it most likely shut down. The question though is, when did they find out? They most likely kept the fact of a phantom hidden because it could tarnish the reputation of the school and the mine industry for producing very poor mage stones that are highly toxic so they simply said that mage stones were not being found anymore and shut it down. That’s my theory from this anyway.

But in a literal Honkai-Esque sense would probably if the loop effect be applied due to the infect stones being used if the sentience of the stones have a mind. Like the parasitic aspect is true. Primal Emotions that was shown in the MS must have a deeper connection.

But if why it’s happening if NRC students are submitting to their darkness

It could be the magestones, if they’re smaller and not capable of withholding a lot of blot. Crowley did specify in the prologue that it needs to be a particular magestone to fix the chandelier so that one is different from what the students use. I think outside of that, the magestones have nothing to do with the numerous overblots. Own theory, someone’s arrival kickstarted the victims’ prophesied actions (hence why MC has visions of the villains) and they’re happening almost simultaneously because they’re all in one place.

something occurred to me on the [second? third?] watch of this video. assuming there's no malice in the ordeal, taking into account the fact that the mage stones are assigned to students, and the fact that the warden's magic pens seem to be able to transform into specialized staffs; it could be that the warden's mage stones are just slowly accumulating blot too much and too quickly. the only case we see of a magic pen transforming that wasn't a warden's was with jamil as far as i can tell, and i wouldn't put it past him [at the very least for during chapter 4] to have swapped his and kalim's pens. i'm not completely caught up so if pretty much anyone's pens can turn into staffs then fine. regardless if the warden's pen is one specific pen that gets passed along with the role then it's a stone that doesn't get proper rest like the others would plus the role coming with inherent stress from being in charge of a huge dorm full of teenagers, then you add in the excess stress of "every character here needs therapy" plus "Yuu/MC is getting involved and either kickstarting or unraveling mini revolutions" and you get a complete mental breakdown with hand-me-down stress from potentially the beginning of the school [potentially plus the warden's stones might have come from the great 7... might follow that rabbit hole later but it's a separate enough thing to brush aside]
if someone wants to argue about the pen being transferred mid year due to ace and deuce being able to challenge riddle for his position: this was something that had to be officiated by a teacher [in this case crowley] and thus had to be overlooked by someone with the authority to change the student id attached to the pens. it's possible that should riddle have lost his duel with ace and deuce one of them would've gotten the warden staff pen while riddle would be re-assigned a normal magical pen

Well if you have heard of the odd sisters and how they make a Disney villain a villain they could play a part in the over blots happening

Magestones absorbing weak phantoms does sound very plausible but i doubt its gonna be a plot point in the main story cuz..idk. Just gut feeling.
