    ok, let's summarize the rules of math according to this channel
    rFactor2: average of 2.82 equals 2.5 stars
    RR: 2.8 equals 3 stars
    AMS2: 3.54 equals 3.5 stars
    ACC: 3.67 equals 4 stars
    AC: 3.81 equals 4 star
    IR: 3.76 equals 4.5 stars
    so why make a vote if you decide the results beforehand?

    With the greatest of respect to Ben, and his content is very good indeed, the results of this poll were entirely predictable as he has pretty much gone all in on iRacing. There’s nothing wrong with that, it is the supreme example of a brilliantly structured scheduled racing system and he has built his channel around it, and I hope it continues to grow because it is fun to watch. IRacing, for me, is not fun to drive and experience though and that’s before you even factor the cost of it in. At least what he and most of the other commentators are saying here though is fair and measured and not deliberately flaming anything that isn’t their favourite.

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks William buddy - it’s an entirely fair point and I appreciate the thoughtful way you articulate it. I do have quite a few R3E and AMS 2 folk who watch the channel regularly (at least that content always does well, often better than iRacing!!) and as you say I think those who voted and commented almost all did so in the right spirit. But I expected iRacing to be popular as inevitably I’m mainly polling my existing audience.

    Good video. Started sim racing back in mid-2021 and I’ve tried all on this list bar iRacing (put off by price) and I’ve come to realise that no one sim is perfect - each has its pluses and minuses. My main ones are ACC, AMS2 - both so easy to use and look great, ACC feels so good to drive (and a GT3/GTWCE fanboy so…); AMS2 improving physics wise but I think it could do with more depth in car classes (specifically for endurance multiclass). That said, AI could be improved in both but it doesn’t stop me enjoying both titles a lot. RaceRoom, I really love the feel (up there with ACC for me) and variety of cars/tracks, AI good to race against - but I do wish had day/night… AC, great driving experience but could do with timed races and rolling starts (AI can be good at times, depends on cars/track)… but one I’m tempted to give up on is rFactor2, it’s so frustratingly fiddly to get pedals and wheel setup (seem to spend more time doing this…) and setting up a race is fiddly… then you get the at-times crazy AI… anyway, I drive each title for different things

  • @whitedragonracing

    rf2 could have been so much more although perfect for league racing, the physics model i prefer over iRacing but the ease of races makes iRacing my go to. I hope iRacing continue to add uk car series and tracks alike btcc, ginetta's, caterhams, croft, rockingham, thruxton etc. The pricing model needs attention in iRacing and rF2. Lets hope BTCC 2024 is done well and scores them enough mulla to rival iRacings platform with something in the future.

    Being a rather recent discoverer of sim racing, I'm surprised how bad basically all sims are in terms of actually being a decent computer game. Would probably give none of them more than three stars. Only candidate for a higher rating is ACC, but it is helped massively by having such a narrow focus.
    Also giggled a bit at how the 4.5 star top rated sim made its appearance in the video with a shot that makes it look by far the worst out of all sims presented here. 😄 Onboard graphics aren't as bad as that TV cam view, but I still find that the only major plus about Iracing is the amount of players and solid online infrastructure. Once you hop into the actual game, it's a bit underwhelming in all possible ways for being the #1 ranked sim (both here and other places).

      fully agree with simracing titles being horrible games, probably a result of the developers effectively being indie studios with limited resources and spending a ton of time on the car physics and tracks

    • @JaredPaul01
      @JaredPaul01 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sim racing titles are popular by how realistic the physics and tire model is making for a compelling/realistic driving experience. This is the most important aspect, not by its fancy graphics all though its a bonus if they do look good. then paired with a good setup like a nice sim rig its impossible to go back to titles like forza or gran turismo. then the multiplayer aspect is just as important with a good UI and ranking system that you can built a racing license online. These are the key aspects people voted on.

    Great video Ben. It is always interesting to see what a community thinks about their favourite/least favourite titles, as its interesting to me why people within the community have differing opinions. Before anyone now jumps down my back I love seeing people have different opinions, it shows we are all nicely different as human being's and makes the world all that more exciting. My go-to sims are iRacing (MP is unmatched, plus does Oval racing brilliantly), Raceroom (love me some TCR/WTCC cars) and AMS2 (does vintage excellently, and has tracks that are not available elsewhere). Do iRacing and Raceroom look their age, absolutely, but for me its not about pretty visuals, its about having fun.

The Skip Barber regional is as rewarding as it is unforgiving.

  • @DjFIL007

    Very good video and inclusion of the community! iRacing would be tops for me, mostly cause I love dirt oval racing and there's literal zero competition out there for it... if you have time to make most of your subscription, it's easy to justify the cost in my books. AMS2 is my go to single player sim due to variety of content (without modding needed), I love the custom championship creator, but will agree AI still needs further balancing, and would love to see it find growth in MP player numbers. ACC I won't judge cause I simply don't like GT racing, but I do think it feels miles better than AC (something I've never been able to get back in to after getting a DD 5 years ago, it just doesn't feel right no matter the settings I try). rF2 still waiting for that single player mode, won't buy anything until then. Raceroom just has never clicked for me for whatever reason (though 90's DTM and WTCC/WTCR stuff is nice), I also dislike their pricing model (not expensive, just they hide the best value options)

  • @ondrejkratochvil4589

    Hmm, personally from what I've played in last couple of months, I still prefer Raceroom's FFB and physics, especially when it comes to vintage cars :) which I will always put way above shiny graphics (not that I would mind having one in R3E :) perphaps R3E and AMS2 should have a baby - sounds, physics, FFB etc. from R3E, & graphics from AMS2 :) )
    Never tried iRacing, but I think lot of people playing it suffer from the "I'm paying for it so much, therefore it must be good" syndrome :)
    And you've forgotten GT and Forza ;)

    • @johndough247
      @johndough247 ปีที่แล้ว

      The phrase “don’t knock it until you’ve tried it” comes to mind…it is expensive no arguments there, but don’t mind the naysayers: everyone knows the MP experience is unmatched, but also the driving experience is one of the best in simracing. It may not feel as great as some sims on cheaper wheels (other sims use lots of fake ffb effects that feel more exciting), but I’d argue iRacing with a DD wheel has some of the best FFB on the market (and the feel in the brakes on most cars is near perfect). iRacing post-COVID is much much better than it was in the past.

    • @pedrosilvamusician
      @pedrosilvamusician ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johndough247 My biggest gripe with iRacing is the amount of little softwares I have to install in order to have the game functioning properly: crew chief, irffb, trading paints, just to name a few. It's a pain to have all of that set up. The racing quality and MP aspect is the one I really appreciate and it's a shame that R3E isn't as big with that, because I think the racing is equally good

    When we get rain (if it works well) in iRacing, there's no doubt about what sim is the clear #1.
    iRacing's handling is not the best, but it's damn good. And the multiplayer is just unbeaten

  • @steelin666
    @steelin666 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's been a few months since I actually put some serious hours into one of those sims. The reason is simple - aside from driving experience, they don't really offer much. Every time I get into one of them to fool around or have a few races, I soon leave with the thought "how cool it would be if there was a good, engaging racing game with that kind of handling and physics". Each of the bona fide simracing titles would've got 3 stars tops from me.
    And then I get back to my current fix - F1 2020. The handling, while not as intricate as in AMS2 or Raceroom, is fun, engaging and mostly realistic, which is just enough. And whatever shortcomings it has in that department, it makes up in the rest of the experience, a full package that robustly recreates the reality of Formula 1 racing, with ten different teams (and possibility to create your own), each with their own car performance, each developing their car through seasons, with drivers who perform differently, with dynamic weather, with rulesets like tyre allocation, compound use requirements, quali formats, parc ferme rule, strategies, practice programs that contribute to development, safety car, and so on, all put into seasonal gameplay loop with technical regulation changes that puts you against organically emerging challenges.
    It actually places you in a complex competitive environment instead of just giving you a bunch of cars and tracks to play around with, and I think it goes wildly underappreciated in the simracing community. It's a solid 4-4,5 star simracing game in my book, with potential for 5 stars if it gets the same level of physics that hardcore sims have. And so would a game with similiar approach for WEC, IndyCar, or formula feeder series. People downplay that set of features, saying it's just "presentation" that F1 games do better, while in fact it's something that every sim dev should look at and take notes of, to create a better, more engaging product.
    In fact, the reason for iRacing's success is exactly that it creates such competitive environment, just like F1 games do, but for multiplayer. People turn a blind eye on iRacing's issues, like sketchy tyre model, lack of rain or problematic netcode, because they appreciate the experience that iRacing offers as a competitive online game. Racing is sport, it's a competition, a game, really. Cars are just toys that you play with, but you'll eventually get bored even with the best toys if you don't have anything engaging to do with them. And that's what simracing genre mostly offers at this point - top notch toys with nothing to do with them.

    The problem with iRacing is not just the price, but the fact the model is exploitative. Buying tracks and cars is fine, subscription is fine, but when you mix the two, you have a problem. It basically generates FOMO in two directions: you have a subscription so you should buy cars and tracks to make full use of it; you bought cars and tracks so you should maintain your subscription or that money is wasted.
    It actually goes beyond some of the worst trends in the gaming industry, where not buying the next Battlepass does not somehow lock you out of your previously purchased content.
    It does have one positive effect: online players are going to be a lot more careful, as getting restricted in terms of access really hurts when you’re paying monthly. And of course only the highly motivated will make the required expense. But that just turns the whole thing into an elitist hellhole, and I think that’s bad for sim racers: it makes it extremely difficult for newcoming sims to produce quality online racing, even when they’re better or offer more features otherwise (i mean it’s 2023, and iRacing MIGHT get rain at some point. How do we accept this?).
    The whole thing is very unhealthy.

      @Mike Croshaw well of course it is for me. This is how opinions work, lol. It is also the most important thing to MOST people since iRacing has by far the biggest numbers of players. It is called sim RACING for a reason. If the most important thing to you is hotlapping or having a casual drive, then fine. But the reality is people want to race with people on a similar level as them. Otherwise, the racing is just pointless if the other person is way faster or way slower. Yes, iRacing has its shortcomings, but it is far from being totally bad or even the worst out there. My favorite physics are on rFactor 2, and I am always looking for races on LFM, but the reality is that they don't have enough, at least not in my time zone. iRacing is much more reliable in that aspect.

    I find it so fascinating that people always talk about their struggles with RF2. I’ve owned the game since ISI first released the beta back in 2012 and never had any issues, relative to any other sim, because at the end of the day they’re all finicky. Maybe it’s just because I’m a computer nerd, but I always found RF2 incredibly simple to navigate and set up, ugly for sure, especially in its original form, but not difficult, plus, as someone who likes to drive fast irl, the overall driving experience is worth it because it’s miles ahead of any other sim out there, lacking everywhere else, but that’s ok.

      If you take all the best parts from each sim you might get close to a 5 star but the other big factor is pure driving feel. Now that we have high quality direct drive wheels its possible to feel the nuance of the force feedback so all sims still have room for improvement, some are closer than others like Assetto corsa and rFactor2. but honestly , R factor 2 with ACC plug and play compatibility and online support, can crash all em all, any time in the day i can find the track that i want to race in with proper ping in ACC,that's a huge plus and gives opportunity to learn race dicipline and opportunity for how to become more competative to avarage sim racing users (don't coun't the sour kids which comes from mario kart :)) Long story short, if they can manage to fix online part in RF2, it can be one of the best in the market with no suprise..

    rFactor 2 is by far the BEST of the lot. It's the only one built to be a real simulator. The physics are unmatched and the ffb is by far the best out of ALL of them. Heck event real race teams use the older rFactor pro engine to still test their cars.

    raceroom with some more players and just a bit smoother would be my top pick but I'm struggling to get a well populated race most days acc is good missing some stuff that annoying rf2 dose my head in
    iracing is a joke you need to spend £200-£2000 to do full seasons that is then locked behind a paywall of £12 a mouth you cant even hotlap your expensive content on single player because iracing is to fucking greedy to even let you log in to your own account unless you pay the ransom plus iracing could just double the mouthy fee after you put £1000 in nothing you could do about it

    My favorite genre nowadays, but can't give more than three stars to any of these when think about it as games. They all fail to deliver a complete experience and are overpriced in many levels. Also, ALL off these sims needed some years after released to leave the beta test state... rF2 took six or eight full years to get there, the others less. I know that this video is about analyzing the current state of these games, but yet I can't forget the long road to get here. "No matter where you go, there you are" lol

    The fact of having the best competitive system has more specific weight that all other characteristics.
    Otherwise, iracing would never had the highest score being that expensive, having such a shitty FFB and a disatrous tire model.
    For me iracing is banned until they don't have a proper physics.
    If I pay for a premium.. every single aspect must be like.

    If other sims dont get on top of their online system i really don't see the point of them at all. AC is fun to mess around with vintage stuff and iRacing is the only choice if you actually want to race online, sure there's LFM but thats GT3 only and the server infrastructure is lacking. Seems like such a simple system to just straight up copy, even if you only start with 1 series have something that starts every hour or what's the point?

    Would like to get into iracing but as its just a bit of fun for me i can't justify the cost, also it makes no sense to me why you penalised when involved in a crash or contact if its not your fault watched so many videos where people do stupid dive bombs or just smashing to the back of you and your penalised

    rF2 is the only video game I know of that needs you to downgrade GPU driver for it to not crash. Best FFB Worst Game.

    iRacing rated the highest on channel that mostly cover iRacing - surprised_pikachu_face 🤣
    people are so biased it's insane, how this game can be rated so high when that shitty netcode ruins every wheel to wheel fight

      I have personally only encounter netcode once within 3 months. Whilst i may see it every other race with others, the problem is iracing don't have regions therefor when two connections that don't communicate well due to high pings to each other, you get that in rf2 if you are in a pvt league with the wrong countries racing each other.

      @@whitedragonracing I've never witnessed iracing type of netcode in RF2. I drive in private league and LFM.

    rF2 ⭐⭐⭐ (great FFB, awful UX/UI)
    RRRE ⭐⭐ (lack of content and non-existent player base)
    AMS2 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (great graphics, UX/UI and content, but oversimplified physics and high DLCs cost)
    ACC ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (great graphics, strong community, but lack of content and high DLCs cost)
    AC ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (best physics, graphics and content variety, great FFB, strong community, donwside is an online UX)
    iRacing ⭐⭐⭐ (massive player base, solid physics, cost is too high to start with)
