That sort of power is going to eat rear tires like mad.. I bet the power is insane. As a stock SL owner the only benefit I see is climbing hills better with the more power
Yes, this one's pretty drunk with power! We manage the power in regular use using boost controller systems, so it need not be "on kill" all the time, with more moderate boost/power levels available at the flick of a switch.
I rode mine from SW Kansas to Wyoming to Vegas then back .. 😁😁 Had a blast no problems at all only with helmet laws in Utah . 2016 tour model . Note wear a helmet in Salt Lake City . Lol

@@hahnracecraft8172 - Whats the expected longevity on the stock engine with one of your stage 1 or stage 2 turbo kits? I would just be using it to rip around the neighborhood once or twice a week or so. Also I heard the stock clutch needs upgrading as well?
@@JMGENTERPRISES, you should expect excellent longevity with either option. As we've been building TurboSystems for these GM engines in other applications dating as far back as 2003, we've had ample time to benchmark the engine's capability in stock form. The power levels we've chosen are eminently safe for the long term, and have proven themselves dependable for tens of thousands of trouble-free miles. The stock clutch isn't really a problem on Slingshot with turbocharging added, as it was originally designed for a 60% heavier automotive application. We've seen excellent durability with it. However, should a turbocharged Slingshot ever require a clutch replacement, it's comforting to know that more capable clutches are available, as are aluminum flywheels to reduce weight and improve performance.
mechanically they are not similar ( turbo spun by exhaust gas, no gear reduction straight shot one wheel, spun by exhaust gas: turbine spins a shaft connected to another wheel: composer wheel ) supercharger is belt driven gear reduced to control boost pressure. mechanically they are far from similar. the only part of both forms of forced induction are the compressor wheels. other than that, they are completely different.
Surely you're familiar with the term "preaching to the choir." ;) In this instance, I'll be happy to elaborate. The similarity in sound you alluded to is what I would attribute to the fact that many modern superchargers (particularly those used on Slingshot) incorporate a centrifugal compressor, identical to a turbocharger in this respect. As such, they can at times emit similar sounds.
Hahn RaceCraft the thing is, the “ wine “ your are hearing isn’t the compressor it’s the gears inside the housing. The compressors will always sound the same but the “ wine “ in the video is more closely related to the gears inside the house not the sound of compressed air. That’s all I’m saying. Iv been building race engines for a long time, and not a single person ever said their turbo sounded like a supercharger. From the smallest K03 sport turbo on s 1.8T VW to a 6262 on a RB26 not one person has ever said their turbo sounded like a supercharger. Now if this is a supercharged Slingshot and you want to push your turbo set up. That’s fine. But I can tell you this right now. People like me who know turbos better than our wives will know the difference between the two. That’s all I’m saying.
I'd agree, you're definitely the first to offer that this machine sounds "more like a supercharger than a turbo". It was my earnest intention to answer your question about same. If my attempts to account for your apparent confusion fall flat, that's perfectly OK...I gave it a shot, and that's all I can do :) Another aspect just came to mind, however...what you are hearing (as I'm not in your head, I can only make more guesses) may well be the gear drive that transmits power from the driveshaft to the drive belt. It can make some "whiny" noises from time to time.
It's a fine line to walk, that's for sure! At lower speeds, some careful throttle is required to keep it hooked up at this power level. A multi-stage boost control system would help tame the wild beast.
@@UBeesh10 , yes! Of course we are still careful in how we apply the power, but the traction dynamics of Slingshot are such that even with a drag radial, if we apply excessive power it will spin. This helps protect the driveline. It's not unlike high-powered FWD drag cars that get away with a surprising amount of power being fed through small, in many cases stock parts. Since FWD cars can't hook up as much power to the ground, they don't need as strong of driveline components as RWD cars. It's very similar with Slingshot and its single rear wheel.
Wider wheels can help with the right tire compounds, but shorter sidewalls like 22's have would work against us, as we need a certain amount of compliance in the tire's profile in order to get some "squat" on the tire. The machine's traction liability in this case is its extreme lightness, which doesn't provide much downward "push" as a heavier machine benefits from.
Did you have to do anything with blow off valves? Or did you just bolt on the stage one turbo and you get the turbo sound all on its own when your shifting gears? I was lookin for the shift sound for sure. Just want to make sure i dont need to purchase anything in addition to the turbo charger.

We can put it down at higher speeds, and typically use boost controller systems to tone it down at lower speeds. This video was intended to be a fun, vulgar display of power, so we let it fly at full power!
I test drove one of these (standard version). I'm normally a motorcycle person. There is a lot higher air pressure into the face due to the hood displacing a lot of frontal air and shoving it up into your face. I was wearing a full face motorcycle helmet and my head started vibrating so badly my vision blurred. That was with the stock flyscreen. Motorcycles don't create such high air pressures and buffeting, at least in a naked bike or low-screen supersport. It was an interesting ride, but there are a lot of shortcomings with the steering, the throttle pedal, the brakes. Wasn't as tactile or refined as I expected. Plus there's no room for your feet in the footwell.

There are certain conditions where the two will sound similar, as they are related devices mechanically.
