The Winston Churchill thing shouldn't actually be an issue. According to the Assassin's Creed Wiki, Churchill was not actually a Templar, merely a puppet (and so were the other world leaders), and died in the same way he did in real life. In fact, Hitler and Stain are the only ones who were canonically killed by the Assassins and there may not be too much uproar from that. That being said I still agree that a World War game would only work in a short mission and not a full game.
Unrelated but if they choose to do more open world RPG, I really hope they do the Wild West. Game opens in Ford’s theater, maybe the protagonist is a kid and sees JWB. Fast forward a few years, joins a gang of Assassins and robs Templar run banks during reconstruction. I think that would be so cool
I really don't get why a world war AC would have to be mostly spent on the frontlines, we've already established occupied cities are fine enough settings for the crusades and the revolutionary war, espionage within city lines would be the way to go about it
The Sabatour is a game that I could see being an inspiration for AC games set during the 1900s in general. For a WWII game though, I like the idea of a Hitman style manhunt, taking you across different fronts in the war. As for length, we don't have to be limited to the the West's perspective. Imagine a few missions playing as a Valkyrie sabatoing the Nazis and convincing the Germans to fight back. Theoratically the game could be as long as they want if they wanted to cover more than just the Nazis. There's Italy and Russia as well. For an open world game, an AC that's a spiritual successor to The Sabatour would work if it were set in a different location, perhaps Poland.
We already have a near perfect "AC" game set in WWII, it's the Saboteur. Free roam inside occupied Paris with your objective being to build and work alongside the French Resistance, blowing up Nazi installations, taking out high ranking Nazis, and trying to help the citizens of Paris in their darkest hour. If you haven't played it I honestly highly recommend the game it's one of my favourites! *I typed this comment before the part of your video, my bad! I agree it would be pointless to make an AC World War game when we already have the Syndicate Rift and the Saboteur
Yes it would work. Any setting would work just as long as the team making it have enough imagination to make it work, and a good understanding of what assassin's creed is. Honestly these "would it work" videos make me question if the content creators here even have any imagination.
I can think of 1 way it can work, I agree it'd have to be a linear experience but not necessarily a chronicles game. I can think of 2 scenarios. Scenario 1) a ww1 and beyond game set in Russia, during the fall of the Romanovs and the rise of the Bolshavics. To show the analogue and use this as a way to show how the Templars gained the large power they have in the modern day and will perfectly set up my scenario 2) a game set in the 1930s and 40s in Nazi Germany. Never leaving Germany and showing the bitter struggle of the Assassins trying and only partially succeeding to topple the Nazi regime headed by the Templars. Giving a bitter sweet ending where they realise the Templars have their fingers in every pie as one regime is swiftly replace with another.
I definitely think it can work. They’re trying seemingly new things with different formats and have pushed through former restrictions with settings before with these large rpg with not very dense cities for most of it, they have a VR coming and multiplayer games planned. I think it would be fun to do a set based stealth focused sneaking through battlefield especially seeing 1917 movie the kind of tension there could be would be really cool. But if the wanted to do a multiplayer shooter that also had up close combat and a story mode like a call of duty game that could be really interesting how parkour staple would influence that as well, or if they want to touch in it in vr could be cool. I think we’re in a new period of Assassins Creed whether we like it or not. I’m fine with it as long as it stays true to established lore well and would be exciting in exploring setting even if they were in different game format or if they found a way to make past formats work
@@kyle2kyletroiiI mean WW1 was only side content for Syndicate in a full game about the setting they would use their automatic weapons which would encourage more Stealth.
So we can never make an exploration game because uncharted eists? I guess we should tell that to the tomb raider creators? Games tke inspiration from each other all the time, that's how genres are refined and improved upon. Just because one game similar to AC exists in WW2 exists doesn't mean no other game could be set in this time period. AC has so much to offer in terms of lore, use of the present, and other plot points unique to the franchise to be set apart from another game in a similar time period. The first thing that comes to mind would be to add other locations than just paris. You could add lyon as it is where jean moulin, one of the major actors of the french resistance operated. You could add a city from the "free" zone in the south of the country, with one of the missions being to cross the border. You could add a maquis, which is a hiding place for the resistance in the wild, bringing back AC 3 type wild parkour. And that's just sticking to the historical side of things. You also have all the isu side of things, maybe revisiting some of the temples in paris now under templar influence. Maybe there is a storyline tied with french legends, which would allow to visit the ancient past. As for the gameplay, you have 2 simple solutions to prevent the player from relying too much on guns. First is that guns make a lot of noise and the character doesn't have a lot of health, so engaging combat without clearing up a good portion of the enemy base would make the mission almost impossible. Second solution would be to make ammo very limited. Access to guns would be very regulated during this period, so ammo would have to be used sparingly. This would force the player to rely much more on the stealth mechanics to avoid conflict. The arkham series is a perfect eample of that. While batman can very easily deal with melee enemies, gun wielders are a pain which forces you to take them out using stealth. You could use a gadget to cause a black out for a short time, using your eagle vision to see in the dark. You could use disguises like in unity to get access to certain areas. Maybe you can make enemies unconscious and placing them into a bed to avoid suspicion from other guards. Of course, you then also add of the classics of the series, sleep darts, poison darts, berserk darts, smoke bombs, rope launcher, giving the player a very diverse stealth arsenal to take on the mission. As for the story, I do't know what the saboteur's is, but yo could easily make a unique story by focusing on the templar's internal conflict. With the germany templar branch being more etreme than others, basically rejecting the britsh and american branches, while allying with the japanese, italian and russian branches. The british branch would reach out to an assassin infiltrated within the french resistance, asking them to gather documents to break up the alliance between the rogue branches to turn them against germany. Then, of course the end of the game would be the infiltration of hitler's bunker (which also means adding berlin to further separate the game from the saboteur) , only to find his body double. Then, you have to escape while the soviet soldiers are rushing in, and chase the real hitler who is running away to put an end to him
WW1: possibly. WW2: Not for me, that era is one of the most influential parts of our current history and I feel it garners about 50% off all the historical media coverage (understandably so and I don’t want to weigh suffering against suffering but there have been similarly brutal and history altering events even back to antiquity). Every 4th shooter every 10th movie harks back to that period and AC for me was always about showing settings audiences were less acquainted with (at least concerning history media)
I think of sniper elite 5 as a basic template for how Ubisoft could execute a word war ac game. The stealth is very remanisant of ac and still manages to work in the use of guns into the game
I've always said any closer to modern day than Syndicate (and arguably Syndicate itself) should be kept to transmedia (comics, novels, animated show/movie potentially) I like the idea of linear black box style though, that does sound cool as a side idea
The only way I can see it working is by hypothetically doing it on concentration camps and templars being in them and then finally sneaking into where Hitler spent his last moments only problem is that it'd have to feel like a hitman game with AC touches and Hitler will feel like syndicates Templar leader so I'm not actually for it as it'd have to have near perfect storytelling and near perfect control schemes and animation And in general I just think it's too modern for a assassin's creed games to work really
I think I'd much rather see a china game with Shao Jun than anything Ubisoft currently has in the works. But since they're making Jade I feel like that ship has sailed.
I think the lore of "Palpatine controlling both sides" is the reason why we have no acww2 game, I'm WORKING ON a story of a WW2 that might be a lore breaker (for ww2 only) but acceptable, I need to finish every assassin's creed out there to understand the lore better... One hint of the story is that you work side to side with the bad guys axis against the templers allies, this basic idea may face a lot of opposition especially that I'm trying to post it on reddit (the worst community that cease to exist) but I think it worth it because I'm really done with same ideas of traditional ww2 sittings and trying to get creative... Anyone wanna encourage me to proceed with the it?
Can it be done? Sure. But I like when assassins creed plays on moral ambiguity. Not all the Templars are purely evil and their confession corridors often show how their explanations may make you judge them less. It gets a little dicey with Nazis in WWII. There’s so much history to explore. I prefer the eras before the 20 century because guns became a lot more accurate and buildings were taller.
If Unity tried it and presented some a bit of it, then I am good. Ubisoft only needs a full-fledged game design and environment to be implemented within the AC world. We will see and conlude when we get there, but for now, Ubi can possibly do it if they craft the story and other elements well.
I think the idea has never evolved beyond the "it would be cool" phase, why do we want a World War AC game? What gameplay Innovations does it bring? The answer is just it would be a cool setting. And that's why I think a World War Assassin's Creed would not work at all.
my thoughts are the following, ill try and be concise. 1. Assassins creed would never work in a ww2 setting due to mainly, automatic weapons, planes, tanks, you name it. HOWEVER it could work as a stealth only extremely linear stealth section flashforwards for other games. Sure you could do it but then it would just devolve into COD. 2. UBI could get away with WW1, automatic weapons werent "widely" mainstream outside of the front (at least not handheld). Outside of that the core gameplay wouldn't have to change, you could just copy over unity, fix it up a bit, and bam. im simplifying the process, things would have to change. 3. as far as lore implications, if the good guys being templars is such a problem, Winston Churchill did plenty of shitty things, id use his treatment of britans colonies as a prime example. so if i were Ubi id be no sweat off my back for a fictional game. HOWEVER i can see why some people would be upset so for him and anyone else they deem to controversial to Portray as villains have them either be unwilling puppets or just flat out dont showcase them at all. 4. WW1 setting, AC3 overdid the historical battles, if you ask me, but they are needed. Throw in the somme and one more trench battle and leave it at that. Have the rest of the game in cities or have the main character do something else. 5. as for the 2 core groups I think it would fascinating to retool some of the ideas from syndicate and unity. especially how the templar truce was portrayed and the whole "syndicate concept". just improve on them, making the point of the story that templars only influence society, they dont control it, there would have been a war, with or without them.
Why not a game where the german assassins work with the german resistance in berlin taking down hitlers inner circle like goerbels and himmler a ww2 or ww1 game should be about espianage
