    • @CP-yd7lp

@@CoercedJab From what I read, the batter approached the area by the stands to see if the little girl was ok. Since the security guard was likely already there and saw him in distress, she held him. Maybe she didn't walk to him in the middle of the field when he first started looking upset, but that doesn't mean her care isn't genuine. Even after he approached her area, she still could've chosen to stay out of it and not comfort him. I absolutely don't think she hugged him for attention or publicity or any reason other than the most obvious and pure reason, which is that the batter was in distress and in serious need of comfort and she cared and willingly comforted him. It makes sense for viewers to find this touching.

So let's round to 28,500, multiply by 7 years = 199,500. So 0.4% have been injured. While my initial number was an exaggeration to make a point, 0.41% still does not qualify as "many" over the course of 7 years with 199,500 attendings altogether in comparison.

@@Gigawicket Apparently when you Google "How many people attend baseball games a year" answers with "In the 2019 season, the average attendance at the games in Major League Baseball was 28,317" is a tad confusing, at least to me, who has never attended a major league game.
But anyway, according to Insider, "In fact, Major League Baseball's total attendance (74.9 million) is actually greater than the other four sports leagues combined (65.9 million)."
So whatever that number is against, 0.0011% is a much better number. My initial point still stands.

My husband, 6 year old daughter and I sat in the stands fairly close, so we wouldn't miss any of the performance. The players were practicing throwing the ball on the sideline, and one came right at us. It happened so fast. All I saw was my husband's hand fly up in front of our daughter's face. He caught the ball. I caught my breath. Never again.... nope. One scare of that magnitude was all the lesson I needed.

Another thing is that safety should ALWAYS matter before someone else's souvenir. Batting Helmets were only introduced in 1958, 30 years after a player was killed by a hit by pitch. Even when catchers had been wearing protection for decades before. They need netting all the way to the foul poles, pitchers need helmets and batting helmets should not be falling off while baserunning. Javier Baez was hit in the back of the head last year or this year by a throw from the right fielder to third base, when his helmet came off halfway through a triple. Not to mention softball pitchers of all ages need cricket helmets when the circle is that close.

I leaned to my left and I was so fortunate that it hit my upper leg, and not my knee or worse - my head. I had a crazy bruise for a long time, and I’ll still have dreams about it and wake up in a panic. Honestly, I’m lucky to be alive. It’s weird to think about sometimes. @@josephmccoy3937 The legal clause of agreeing to assume a certain amount of risk when attending a major league baseball game does in fact exist. It's clearly spelled out on the back of the ticket. Let's stick to the incident in this video though. A 2 year old girl sitting on her grandfather's lap at a major league baseball game was hit by a baseball, suffering a fractured skull and likely permanent brain damage. There was safety netting in place but they were seated just beyond the edge of it near the third base line. As a result of this incident the managers of the stadium extended the safety netting even further. I cannot find any information or indication that the parents are suing anyone. I don't know why that is the case considering the fact that the cost of medical care will be substantial and ongoing. I like to think there's the possibility that without the threat of litigation people sometimes are classy enough to step up and do the right thing, without broadcasting it everywhere to showcase what a generous, wonderful and caring human being they are. It's interesting though that in the commentary section of articles about this incident there's always someone whining about "ambulance chasing attorneys", as though frivolous lawsuits are the main issue of concern here. I'd be willing to speculate that such people are sniveling, greedy douchebags that need to get a clue, grow a pair and have a heart. You're the only one talking about suing now, and directing your question towards potential litigation involving the players is not just straying off topic, but it's stupid. Are you being intentionally facetious? Let me be clear; I'm not going to waste anymore of my valuable time answering stupid questions unless you start a GoFundMe page for me. I deserve adequate and generous compensation for my research efforts. Somewhere in the upper area of four figures. That is all.

Why would a parent sit with a toddler in an area where they can get hit with a ball, at least put a helmet on the kid.

@Anne Liesveld if they're saying "...certain seats aren't safe for family" and you're a sane minded adult who understands the concept of balls swinging astray, since ya know, it's a baseball game, maybe don't buy those seats for your child

Your logic is flawed. Hockey players once didn't not wear masks and helmets. So why did they start wearing masks and helmets? Because getting hit in the face with a puck, a stick, or worst, the blade of your skate will suck big time. The exact same should be applied to all spectator sports. Why should the audience be protected at a stadium? Because it's 2019. It's not 1919. It's the responsibility of the league to make the stadium as safe as they could for the audience.

@@leemanism its mostly the parents fault when my dad took me to ball games i dont live near any pro teams so it was just a mens league but he always covered me with his hands and caught or deflected the balls away from me until i was 4 or 5 and learned how to catch and then i was diving for foul balls lol but you got to be able to take care of your kids at games and at the jr a hockey games since you mentioned hockey and im canadian so i have to talk about it lol i got hit by pucks a couple of times but only in the leg and hand because i tried to catch it but i was like 10 at the time and my dad just laughed lol it was my fault one time but i was a goalie so i was use to getting the puck in the back and theres no padding there so it didnt hurt nearly as bad

You can still get popped pretty good in the higher levels, where the netting would offer no protection. You have to pay attention at all times
