    I originally got the DTAC tourist sim at the airport for 90 days, and renewable for 90 days two more times (total 9 months). Ended up being about 250thb/mo paid 3months at a time. When that expired, I just used the DTAC APP to go to Packages - My Choice, where you can customize what you want. You can choose how long you want 1, 3, 7, 15, 30, or 90days. Then choose how much data you want at max speed each month. Then choose if you want any minutes for phone calls. I get 90 day plan, with unlimited internet but 20GB at maximum speed, and 30 minutes of calls each month for 608thb/90days (203thb/mo). It seems like a good deal to me. But really, almost anywhere I go, there is wifi available. So having the plan is more of a security blanket.

    Good stuff! I bought the 599THB True Plan at DMK in early December.. It worked great and the staff there were efficient and helpful. But wow, the 3 month deals in the shopping malls are great!

      I was going to go both airports but thought it would just be a waste of time and money to probably get the same prices.. I used to get sims at the airport the first couple of years coming here but then got used to moving around and how things worked here so just waited that extra 20min to get the same sim for less than half the price

    Is the currency exchange usually better at the airport or also at the malls?

      @jonh.7661 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The currency exchange at airports around the world is known to be poor. If possible, exchange only a minimum there to get you through your 1st day. Then go to SuperRich, which is a popular exchange with locations around the city. They even have an APP to check the rates and list the locations.
      Also, before leaving home, you could open a WISE account. Then you can transfer some cash from your Bank to the WISE account, and exchange to Thai Baht inside the account (great rates). You can use the WISE card almost anywhere/everywhere that takes Visa. You'll still need cash for street food, nightmarkets, and small local vendors, taxi/tuktuks, etc. But the WISE card is quite handy.

      I'm Thai and currently I pay 1014 thb per month for 1gbps download and 200mbps upload and that's home internet. it also include mobile plan, 10gb data and 200 minutes call. and also a truevision(cable tv) it comes with the fiber optic and you just plug it from the modem. and I think it would cost around 599 to 699 just for the home internet.

    Thanks for your video and thanks for your channel. I anticipate using a sim primarily to use Google maps while I"m walking around (so I can find places). I just use WhatsApp to text my friends/family back home in the U.S. , and LINE to text my friends in Thailand. I use hotel wifi when I'm inside the hotel. Given this fact pattern, would the 30day unlimited download plan be sufficient for me? I've never bought a sim card for traveling related purposes, so I don't know how calls/text/using google maps effects my sim card plan.

    Thank you for this video. Do you know if 7-11 sells E sim from True or just physical sim?

  • @tamwilfred
    @tamwilfred 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Last year I was in Thailand and I believe the AIS website mentioned that they might offer service through eSIM activation. Would it be possible to get service with an eSIM activation now? I'm not sure if eSIM has become more widely available since Apple made a big push for eSIMs in America last year with the iPhone 14.
    For Americans traveling to Thailand, I recommend getting an eSIM activation for a few days as a bridge. This way, when you land at the Thailand Airport, you will have immediate service. You can then use the internet to call a Grab Taxi and have a few days to go to a mall and get a SIM card for longer-term service.

  • @RedmondsVideos
    @RedmondsVideos 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Might be a silly question, but if you buy the tourist SIM cards, can you change it to a monthly payment? I want a sim as soon as I arrive but I don’t want to be switching numbers constantly. That one year deal sounds great though

    You can help us eliminate the "No meter" taxi drivers by just remember taxi reg. number and report it to Thai tourism police.

    Just walk into a DTAC shop at the mall and ask to try the 299bhat unlimited data 20mb SIM and they give you a Burmese migrant SIM, 299 a month, easy.

      Do you know how much it is? For what times etc etc to share with everyone.. cheaper than 7/11 30 day?

    • @arhusdk2916
      @arhusdk2916 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProjectBangkok The cheapest package is 199 Baht/month you can use maximum speed for 20GB and you can use unlimited data at 20Mbps but it does not include a free call. Finnmobile is an online internet provider which you can only buy sim card from website but it is apparently cheaper compared with 3 main internet brands.

    Couldn't you use the 7-Eleven at the airport to get your SIM?

  • @fgrion
    @fgrion 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    i don't understand why people still buy sim cards on arrival. If you have a recent phone or an iphone, just get an esim: biggest providers are airalo, monty esim and maya mobile. They might eventually not be the cheapest ever however if you have paid 1000 £ for your trip (only for hotel and flight), why not getting a 10 £ esim?
    The advantages? you can buy it in advance, it works as soon as you land in the country, no need to queue up and show your passport.

    @ProjectBangkok I have seen multiple ppl on different platforms say that they went into a 711 in Thailand to purchase a SIM card and they were refused as they were told they could only accept Thai ID cards to sell them. That they need ID with a fingerprint on them????
