I m planning go to Bangkok Thailand in this march for vacation these information are great 👍, thankyou so much! Mr, Cal ! Wish you healthy / happiness and good luck!
This is true. They will usually arrive within a week, but the key word is usually. I’ve also had times when it took weeks… so I had to include that information otherwise I’d be giving bad advice if there is a risk that it won’t arrive. If somebody is leaving in a week, they shouldn’t risk it.
@@thebangkokguide Good stuff! When did you move out here? I lived in Philippines for 17 years, and moved out here in Jan last year. Currently live in ThongLo.
Thank you Cal! I will be in Bangkok this November for one month, and I will be downloading some of these apps like BOLT and MUVMI. I already have the other apps from my trip last April.
Thank you for sharing- I wished I found your channel sooner- since I been here in Thailand for a month and lots more things was difficult & I have been scammed left and right.
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately there are a lot of scams in the main tourist areas! Try to get outside the tourist areas as the Thai culture is much friendlier once you get out of the tourist areas!
Hi Cal. Excuse my ignorance. When i order a Bolt cab, do i pay at the start or at the end of my journey. Do they accept cash or card, or do i have to have an account for payment. Thanking you. Tim K.
No worries. It's always better to ask. You always pay at the end of the trip. At this time Bolt only accepts cash in Thailand. They are still a bit newer, and I would guess that they will integrate card payments soon. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers
Hi Cal, thanking you for your prompt reply. Your a gentleman. That has answered my query perfectly, much appreciated. I am a new subscriber to your channel and find it both enjoyable and informative. Respectfully yours. You take care friend. Tim K.
Greetings and thanks for this very informative channel and topic. I just came across this video and have some questions about these apps, does anyone know the answer: 1° Should I install these apps on my phone before arriving in Thailand? Normally when I arrive I switch my home country sim for a Thai sim. So I'll have a different Thai phone number. Will these apps still work if I install them before arriving in Thailand? 2° I've never used one of these taxi apps. How does actual payment happen with Bolt for instance. Is it paid for with credit card (for instance Mastercard or Visa) when you arrive at the destination or do you still pay cash or do you have either option? Thanks again.
1. You should wait to download them and link with the new number. Will be much easier! 2. With the ridehailing apps you can pay by cash or card but if your using a western card they often charge an additional fee. Cheers!
Great video, Cal! Good tips for my visit end of this month. Qn: can you advise where should I transact in cash as well as qr code or bank transfer payments? Is there an app or ewallet that visitors can use easily?
Most should work but a couple might require a Thai phone number. I would highly recommend you just buy a Thai SIM card as it will normally be much cheaper to just swap out the sim during the trip. I will be covering SIM cards in an upcoming video!
Hi Cal, fellow Canadian here from alberta! not sure if you'll get this message but im planning my first Thailand trip to the usual suspects (bkk, chiang mai, phuket, and koh samui). was wondering if you recommend vaccines? if so which ones? also, I've been hearing SO many different opinions on Bangkok belly. specifically the ice. its safe? its not safe? etc thank you so much!
The line app will work with any number later... so you can download it ahead of time. I actually don't even know which number my line is connected to anymore lol
I recommend you watch my newest video as I cover this and 23 other apps that you will find helpful! But I recommend Moovit, ViaBus and google maps overall.
Yeah, Bolt has credit cards now. I haven’t ordered to the airport before, as I normally take the airport rail link or the registered taxis. But I think it should be fine!

Just depends which one you prefer.. can buy an esim for a couple of dollars more in advance with Airalo, but also super easy to setup at the airport. Just avoid some of the other esims as they can get absurdly expensive and they tend to do a lot of sponsored ads here on youtube.
I've heard youtube premium is cheaper in Thailand, I'm moving there next month and will sign up, it more than twice the subscription here in Australia. Have you had experience doing this? Cheers.
Yes, you are a real deal my friend. 555 Also Please, explain to the tourists about hiw to use the QR code to pay in Thailand too, Thai QR payment or Bank Apps or money wallet so you no need to use the real money anymore like the Thai because I heard a lot of youtubers that came to Thailand and they did a video about how to pay in Thailand but they just thought that we Thai still use the cash because most of them couldn't use their Credit Card here so they thought they only have to carry the cash and they did the content to teach people, But instead in Thailand we Thai rarely use the credit card nowadays because we all used the Thai Bank Apps and money wallet such as Truemoney, shopee pay or Thai QR Prompt Pay so you only have to scan the QR and pay and you could also use this apps to pay to most of the street venders herev too.
The QR code payment options are great. I recommend True Wallet in my video about money in Thailand. Perhaps I will discuss all of the available options in a next video! Thank you for the suggestion!
Yeah, Line was actually initially developed in South Korea and is popular in much of East Asia. It's free to download and use. Clothes selection is good. You can get cheap clothes at markets and certain malls like Platinum, and you can get name brand clothes at any mall, which are similar to any western country!
There are local mobile payment apps. True digital wallet, Line Pay and Prompt pay, but I believe that they all require a work permit to setup. Can check if anything changed recently. Google pay launched here a couple of years ago so should work fine.
Whatsapp is used in Thailand, but it is not too common. You may need a Thai number to register. I would recommend getting a Thai sim card as soon as you arrive, as they are very inexpensive and easy to buy! I will make a video about what you need to do the first day you arrive soon!

Yeah, Bolt has credit cards now. I haven’t ordered to the airport before, as I normally take the airport rail link or the registered taxis. But I think it should be fine!
I bet the hustle on taxis and bikes are crazy stressful. 1 minute to find a driver and 15 minutes to negotiate the price. It would drive me nuts
