When I was a kid, I listened to this song with my grandma all the time - and I always skipped it halfway through because it went on for too long. But now that I'm older, I realize that the repetition of the chorus makes it more powerful - and even though this song is/was meant for the generation before mine, all these incredibly talented singers are filled with so much passion and joy and hope for a better future that, when I watch this, I start to cry every time...

I would like to dedicate this song to Ukraine and Russia. Being together was never as important as now. Much love to all our brothers and sisters who are suffering.
Just because our countries do not get along does not mean we have to follow them. Hate only creates more hate. Continue to show and speak of love especially in the face of hate. In the people lie the power. If we group together and show kindness for the earth and each other we can evolve ourselves.
The song says they’re saving their own lives, they don’t care about the people in Africa. It’s about USA, if you think about it it’s kind of disgusting.

Listening to this song multiple times over the last several years made me realize that what we may need at this present time is the same. Change some of the words to fit today's world we presently live in and many will realize we need to stand up to what's going on at this present time. There is so much hatefulness, division, and other powers of darkness in the world today. We the people are the only ones that can stop this if we stand together as one.

One of the first Cassettes I owned in the late 80’s. I was 7 when I first heard it, and I believe it inspired much of who I am today! Will love this song till I die!!!
This was recorded the night of the American Music Awards, they went straight to the studio so whoever was at the awards show was who was invited (plus whoever lived in LA and wasn't on tour). I was always surprised that Lionel Ritchie co-wrote the song but didn't give himself a solo. There's also a part of the filming where they were putting it together where Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder and Lionel Ritchie were sitting at the piano trying to figure out a change and they were stuck. Quincy scans the talent, with all those great song writers in the room and asks Billy Joel to come down and help them figure out the problem part. They needed fresh ideas, and Billy immediately told them how to do the part they had trouble with and the song was done. They were writing it still, minutes before they recorded it.
WOW such a meaningful song We are all Family, We are the world, we are the children, we are saving our own life, Stand together as one, Let start Giving
Just as sections of holy scripture (of whatever religious tradition) there are songs, poetry that simply never grow stale. This song is one of those immortal, ever relevant contributions!
Uma constelação de grandes cantores internacionais reunidos, a qual nunca mais se verá igual. Um momento histórico da música que ficará guardado pela eternidade.
A combination that's Oozing with talents, decades upon decades it's still an enigma and i know beyond doubt that it will never fade. Stunning. Just wishing Mark Knopfler and Michael Cretu would have featured a line or two.
Watching emotionally right at this moment...thinking what's happening in this world. I was on my teenage years when used to sing this and fall for its deep meaning for the entire human world. Now, I don't want to imagine in my lifetime to experience a world war. May God forbid.🙏🙏🙏
They did that...1:06 Tina Turner, 1:20 Michael Jackson, 2:02 Willie Nelson, 2:14 Bruce Springsteen, 2:21 Kenny Loggins, 2:28 Steve Perry, 2:35 Darryl Hall, 2:52 Cyndi Lauper, 3:48 Bob Dylan, 4:42 Ray Charles, 4:54 Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen and 6:14 James Ingram those part, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie matched those words, verses and voices perfectly. They are genius. They picked the right people to sing those parts. That song sounded so good. A job well done...
SeeliaVachon, if you look at her wikipedia entry you'll see that she wasn't known yet to almost anybody in the recording industry because her 1st album was released only a few weeks earlier than this recording date. And there were a number of people that could have been a part of this recording that had been around for more than 10 years that didn't even make it into the chorus............. Pete Cetera (Chicago) Any of the 4 people from ABBA Richard Carpenter ANY female country singer at that time Jeff Lynne (ELO) yadda yadda yadda

There comes a time When we heed a certain call When the world must come together as one There are people dying Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life The greatest gift of all We can't go on Pretending day-by-day That someone, somewhere soon make a change We're all a part of God's great big family And the truth, you know, love is all we need We are the world We are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me Oh, send them your heart So they know that someone cares And their lives will be stronger and free As God has shown us by turning stones to bread And so we all must lend a helping hand We are the world We are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving Oh, there's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all But if you just believe there's no way we can fall Well, well, well, well let us realize Oh, that a change can only come When we stand together as one, yeah, yeah, yeah We are the world We are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me We are the world We are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day, just you and mee We are the world (are the world) We are the children (are the children) We are the ones who'll make a brighter day, so let's start giving (so let's start giving) There is a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me Oh, let me hear you! Today is 2022 and it still makes headlines and topping most request platforms Goes to our people in North Eastern Uganda, Northern Kenya, Sri Lanka and all those countries where we have suffering people.
My favorite song of all time. I dont understand why people do not see the smooth intruduction and entry of the legend lionel Richie, followed closely by Stevie Wonder- what about cindy lauper's part, the most diffficult one. Michael Jackson behaving like he knew what is going on and patiently waiting for his time to play it perfectely and nail it. All of them knew their part- perfect!. Magical decades the 80s and 90s, perharps we will never have something like these in the future.

2022 and I still getting goosebumps every time I’m hearing that masterpiece
LindenWalker what year man?????
Lionel Ritchie has a solo at the beginning 😏.
That's A for the history, bravo 👍

Just as sections of holy scripture (of whatever religious tradition) there are songs, poetry that simply never grow stale. This song is one of those immortal, ever relevant contributions!
Also, rest in peace, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, James Ingram, Kenny Rogers, and Al Jarreau.
I agree - this song was made AT LEAST 30 years ago, and by NOW, PLENTY of these people have GONE away (ONE way or ANOTHER)

A combination that's Oozing with talents, decades upon decades it's still an enigma and i know beyond doubt that it will never fade. Stunning. Just wishing Mark Knopfler and Michael Cretu would have featured a line or two.

The part of Steve Perry is so AMAZING his voice is so freaking beautiful
What a master piece 😭sad that majority of these talented men and women have passed on
Watching emotionally right at this moment...thinking what's happening in this world.
Terencia Gillermo right
Terencia Gillermo just pretty beautiful.
I've always wondered why Whitney Houston was not a part of this.
Pete Cetera (Chicago)
Any of the 4 people from ABBA
Richard Carpenter
ANY female country singer at that time
Jeff Lynne (ELO)
yadda yadda yadda
Terencia Gillermo
Till today I got chills from this song..the best

Avevo 13 anni quando uscì We Are the Word .. la trasmettevano alla radio e fu un grande successo... per me lo è ancora oggi che ne ho 49 di anni.. una grande canzone...una costellazione meravigliosa dei più grandi della musica americana
There comes a time
When we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all
We can't go on
Pretending day-by-day
That someone, somewhere soon make a change
We're all a part of God's great big family
And the truth, you know, love is all we need
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
Oh, send them your heart
So they know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stones to bread
And so we all must lend a helping hand
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
Oh, there's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there's no way we can fall
Well, well, well, well let us realize
Oh, that a change can only come
When we stand together as one, yeah, yeah, yeah
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and mee
We are the world (are the world)
We are the children (are the children)
We are the ones who'll make a brighter day, so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There is a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
Oh, let me hear you!
We are the world (we are the world)
We are the children (said we are the children)
We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me, come on now, let me hear you
We are the world (we are the world)
We are the children (we are the children)
We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me, yeah
We are the world (we are the world)
We are the children (we are the children)
We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
And we're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
We are the world (are the world)
We are the children (are the children)
We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
We are the world, we are the world (are the world)
We are the children, yes sir (are the children)
We are the ones that make a brighter day so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me, ooh-hoo!
We are the world (dear God) (are the world)
We are the children (are the children)
We are the ones that make a brighter day so let's start giving (all right, can you hear what I'm saying?)
There's a choice we're making, we're saving our own lives
Ever green song for all generations
This beautiful song always bring me to tears. We truly need each other for survival, covid and beyond. We cannot go on pretending anymore.
This song was produced in 1985, a year after I was born....but it is the largest PHILANTHROPIC SONG of all time. Today is 2022 and it still makes headlines and topping most request platforms
Goes to our people in North Eastern Uganda, Northern Kenya, Sri Lanka and all those countries where we have suffering people.
I love Steve Perry's voice💖
I love the composition, and the memories from 1985. It's a beautiful world as long as we make it one together.
