  • In this video we will look at a Shindaiwa 757 chainsaw with a running issue. The saw will start but it just bogs. Follow along as I diagnose and repair this common chainsaw issue. #smallenginerepair

    That saw looked new, even the bar and chain. My old Red Max commercial trimmer has Shindiawa carb and maybe it was made by them for Red Max which is now a Husqvarna twin brand. I am impressed that you seem to stock such a wide variety of carb kits. Good show!

      Anytime I need a kit I don't have I order some extras. Its the one thing I'll order on my own without asking the parts person.

    I worked in a GM shop in the early 80s. GM's carbs were sealed with welch plugs. the only way to get them to idle properly was remove carb, hacksaw--then chisle the plugs out. reinstal carb. I still have the special tool to adjust them. LATER!

    I worked on a farm in the 90's and ran their Shindaiwa string trimmers a bunch. They never had any issues!

    Was the old metering lever used (6:45 in video)?

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably. I usually use the old lever unless it shows signs of wear at the point where the diaphragm touchs it. Just because they supply one in the kit doesn't mean I'm gonna need it.

    Greasy Shop Rag, I have a 592XP, when it gets below half a tank it starts bogging and even stalling when I go to add throttle after it has idled between cuts. It has around 135hrs of run time. Used regularly for firewood production.
    I have replaced fuel filter and air filter. A couple days ago I had prob 1/4 or less fuel in the tank. No matter how much I tried, it would start and stall as soon as I touched the throttle. I am very pedantic about cleaning after use. I was thinking it was carburettor, but I am only having the issues once it has been running and below half a tank. What are your thoughts to the issue?

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Pressure test the fuel line and see if it has a pin hole. Another possibility is time/heat, not fuel level. Maybe it takes a half tank of gas before the ignition coil is hot enough to fail or some scoring in the cylinder to seize the piston ring.

    • @JaseC80
      @JaseC80 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheGreasyShopRag thank you, very much appreciated. I will look into those suggestions. I hope it’s the fuel line, but having said that, I recently had the saw at the dealer and I gave them a new fuel pickup line. I have since found they never did half of what they said they had, so it’s possible the fuel line was not replaced at all. The cylinder and rings from the exhaust side look good. Having found a new place to service the saw I will drop it off to them.

    Always kick myself for not grabbing one of these, the saw shop had them on sale for 550. I did have a pair of Shin 446s saws- there is no saw made that would keep up pound for pound. Echo bought Shin and produced a copy of the 446s as the Echo 500p, but they massively detuned it. Parts for the Shins were just too pricy to keep them running after a few thousand hours on them, but I miss those saws.
