  • A customer brought in a Jonsereds 70E chainsaw stating that it hadn't run in a while. After rebuilding the carb it still was lacking power in the cut. I'll show you someones mistake and how to fix it. #smallenginerepair

This was back when they made "meaty" saws! Id love to have that saw!! I had an issue with a backpack blower a while back...the "mechanic" replaced his carb. And on OEM at that...but had the intake gasket upside down...now this guy was supposedly a GREAT 2 stroker..so he brought it to me to fix it...then tried to say his son worked on it...then when the son came in...he said "Daddy did that" 😂 i just said...we all have bad days...but thats a component that im VERY conscious of going back together...GREAT VID Brother!

@@steveriggenbach90 I already had my hands on the fuel line, filter and carb. Needed to check the impulse and discovered the wrong gasket. I didn't suspect tank vent because it never pulled fuel after the rebuild. Even a sealed tank would have let it pull enough fuel to at least pop.

Excellent job finding that. You have learned that if everything else is good, what might still be bad? Good lesson for us!
Reminded me of my Dixie Chopper... replaced head gaskets. The kit came with new intake and exhaust gaskets. Short story is one of the intake gasket had a similar issue; during the manufacturing process a previous gasket didn't move out of the way, so it left an imprint on the next gasket and that imprint caused an air leak. I put the old gasket back in and it ran great, best it had run in a long time. I didn't realize how I got used to the low power until it was back to running normal again! Love your videos, thanks for posting them.

This is an old, well-documented issue with Tillotson carb kits. The gasket they supply does not cover the impulse channel. I don't know what that gasket style is supposed to fit, but does not work on the Swedish saws. Husky gasket for the win or cut your own. I first had this issue happen to me in 2009 on a J'red 80. I don't know how long Tillotson had been supplying the wrong manifold to carb gasket for these Swedish saws. Back in the day when the saws were newer, it was never an issue.

Update: I went to the local saw shop and they knew nothing about Jonsered and gave me the name of another shop that serviced Husqvarna saws. Called them and told them the model I had and they said they couldn't get parts and not even carb rebuild kits. They only replace carbs. So if you have a place where I could order the items in your video, I would be grateful. My carb has TILLOTSON. TRALEE IRELAND cast into the top of it. My saw also does not have the chain brake like the one in your video, but other than that is identical. It also reads JONSERED on the pull start instead of JONSEREDS. Where the 70E sticker should be it has nothing there. Must have been rubbed off. Thanks!

I just inherited a 70E from my Dad that passed away at the age of 91. It runs on spray but had some very old gas in it. I dumped it out and put in fresh gas but it probably needs a rebuild on the carb. Where is the best place to get a kit, the fuel line and filter, and a new plug? I enjoyed your video and found it very informative. Thanks!!

    • @TheGreasyShopRag

If you set it at peak rpm you will general have an off-idle bog. Richen it up just enough for that to go away. If after that adjustment it won't idle without loading up then you need to lean it back out a bit.
