Wish I was in Utah, I would buy that, what a beautiful job. Your channel is a good reminder that vintage bikes still have relevance, especially with some new bikes costing upward of six to ten thousand dollars. I'd rather keep it simple and more than likely be happier on a bike like this. Might be the best one yet, keep up the great work, I'd really love to see you restore a vintage full suspension bike.

Sometimes I messed up a little but I think that’s part of the process of learning. Watching videos just like yours are soooooo inspirational for me. Thanks a lot and please keep the good working.
I would have cautiously put heavy teflon grease instead of oil for the wheel freehub and all the rest except the chain lol. Awesome job, I couldn't have done better
@RollinRat I know what you mean but you can be carefull and only put grease on pivot point and not flat surfaces to prevent stickiness. I've also seen freehub destroyed by rust because oil wouldn't stay long enough
I find these videos very satisfying to watch,I really enjoy seeing bikes and other things like ATV's or motorcycles being rebuilt from the ground up. I really like watching people do projects where they are able to get broken stuff for cheap,do any repairs required,and get them back into running order,once the mechanical parts are repaired,they can repaint everyting,get the parts reassembled and they end up with the finished product. The final product being a well built machine that looks good,performs well and can be used again to have fun with or be sold for a profit.

There's something immensely satisfying watching you giving old bikes a new life. I do, myself, love to work with bikes - currently building a Trek Fuel EX 9.5 up from a bare frame.
I only had to look a few videos down to find a Bontrager build. Wonderful job. I used to go into the lbs that was a Bontrager dealer and look at these bikes before I could afford one. Bontrager was sold before I had the money to get one, which is how I ended up with the Voodoo. I was a little surprised to see a thread less headset on the bike, as Keith preferred quill stems. It must have been something added later in the bikes long history.
I have this bike in titanium with a rare Rockshox SID SL Titanium lockout fork with front disc. It's an absolute joy to ride and beats most gravel bikes.
That should not take long to sell at all! Another great build. I would love to see a video on how you go about designing the vinyl for your paint masking. I would love to see your thinking on setting up the color layers and some practical how to. Great watch!!!!
So cool to see this. I've not seen one of the 90s Bontragers in at least 15 years. I worked for Bontrager Cycles in 90-91, starting as summer job when I was in college in Santa Cruz. Started assembling his composite forks (and those licensed to Tange) and quickly moved to tubing prep and machining small parts on vintage lathe and vertical mill (no in-house CNC at that point). It was a small operation; Keith a manager and 4-6 folks making parts and welding frames. All were powder coated off site then. It was amazing to work with Keith; quiet and humble guy with an incredible practical engineering mind. it was my first real exposure to jig set ups, efficient manufacturing on a tiny scale. Very inspiring. While I left the bicycle industry after this job (had worked in shops for a few years before), the experience and lessons learned stuck with me in later careers and even personal projects. Amazingly built, beautiful frames. I was set to buy one when I was offered a demo deal on a Yo Eddy (the frame I had coveted), which I still ride 29 years later. I don't regret the choice, only that I wasn't a poor college student and could have bought them both.

Like the fact that you used an old XTR- 952 series as parts. For me still the best MTB- series ever built. I have this series on my bike and no joke it keep working since 1999.
This is making me want to build mine up. I have a new race frame and appropriate crowned Judy new in the box I've had since '95 I never built...lazy? Possibly...but I had so many bikes at the time. I was spoiled working in the industry back. As soon as I got one, there was another bigger better mouse trap that caught my eye! Sold my (new in the box) Bontrager B52 last month, putting some of those coins towards a new steed.
I owned those hubs (and the XTR kit) back in the day. They were awesome. Had them on my old '96 Trek 8700 SHX Carbon. Wish I still had that bike. Nice job, looks great.
Have you ever thought about investing in an ultra sonic cleaner for your restorations? I love these videos, especially the bike restorations. I love that you pick really cool 80s and 90s MTBs. They are truly a loved era of cycling and very fun to ride and work on.
Awesome! Great to come across this video as I’m in the midst of rehabbing my old Race Light, which I built up while spinning a wrench for the local bike shop back in the day. Many years of hard riding on it, but none recently. It has the much less 1995-trendy navy blue paint job, which has stood the test of time a bit better. I knew it was a sweet handmade frame, back in the day, but I never expected anyone to still recognize it (let alone make a short film about rebuilding one!) 25 years later! Now I need to learn how to re-seal and spring my original Judy FSX, and find a stem for 1” with a 0 degree rise.
That thin wishbone stay tube that runs to the seat tube made that rear end very unique and some even compared it to a Ti frame as it was so supple on the hits yet still stiff on the climb.
Damn it. I also need such a store of old parts. I restored an old Pacific Aspen II myself. But I also changed the purpose of the bike. An old 90s mountain bike became a touring bike with 26 inch wheels and an indestructible CroMo frame. But I will do the painting again. I like your work very much and will watch each of your videos in which you restore bicycles.

Another great build. Very enjoyable to watch. I remember getting XTR v brakes for my 1995 Cannondale M500. They were such a huge upgrade from the cantilevers.
You certainly did not go "half ass" on this restoration. I really like how you disassembled the wheels completely and buffed out the hubs and started fresh. Very nice work. However, 3x? Minor thing in my opinion, but still amazing work you have done to this bike.

really wanted the Controltech stem to stay. I know shorties are the current thing but those old flat stems make such a beautiful geometry. Same for the Controltech bar.
Paul Willerton rode to I think a 6th at Worlds on just such a creamsicle orange Racelite back in the 90's. The bike was still in Keith's garage a few years ago when GCN interviewed him.
I like your color choice on the frame. It matches the era properly, and would appeal to a greater number of people. Can remember using those same Oury grips on my green/purple 1997 Trek mountain track.
Fantastic build, so much fun to watch you work. Incredible bike, so much to love. Great to see the Oury grips, have them on my '93 Diamond Back Response Elite (recent Craigslist rescue), and have run them on every non-road bike I've ever owned. Keep up the great work!

Wow, more towns need a bicycle collective. I see so many people discarding perfectly good, repairable bicycles to the local scrap yards.
My town tried something similar and also tried a tools for self reliance thing.. ultimately people are just too lazy and buy new

In my childhood we used to cut strips of suede and make rings of it on chrome hubs to keep it clean and shiny all the time
