    "Riders of Rohan! Oaths you have taken, now fulfill them all, to lord and land!!"
    I absolutely love his character story so much
    He watched as his country and king diminish day by day, doing what he could to help but on the face of it, it appeared hopeless
    Perfect character that shows if u keep fighting and stay true to what u believe it will turn out for the better, in the end he became king and saw the world renew ❤

      I just took at least five minutes to find a clip and to type it down barely from memory and when I finally put it down, it’s already on here...because memory and rhythm. Found it so difficult to remember his lines! Tolkien style is so strange!

    • @A407RAC
      @A407RAC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's more than staying true to what you believe - any fool could stay 100% true to a total delusion. Tolkien's beauty is staying true to the ideals of honour, truth, loyalty, and that which is good and righteous. That is why Éomer prevails - he fights for good against all odds, rather than any self-important idea someone can cook up

    • @HerrRoehrich
      @HerrRoehrich 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The movie version missed what, at least imho, makes this quote so emotional:
      "Now is the hour come, Riders of the Mark, sons of Eorl!
      Foes and fire are before you, and your homes far behind. Yet, though you fight upon an alien field, the glory that you reap shall be your own for ever. Oaths ye have taken: now fulfill them all, to lord and land *and league of friendship*!"
      This, along with the Rohirrim crying "Ride to Gondor!" instead of "Death!" (this comes later) on their initial charge is just such a stirring testament to how deep the friendship between Rohan and Gondor goes, that one would be willing to sacrifice themselves to save the other.
      Unfortunately, PJ dumbed this aspect of their relationship down way too much.

    Imagine a game, with the mechanics and engine of Ghost of Tsushima, where you play as a young man of Rohan. You flee your village overrun by Dunlandings and Orcs to Edoras where the great Captain Eomer takes pity on you and let's you join the Rohirrim. As a recruit, you range across Rohan fighting enemies, liberating villages, and visiting ancient and famous locations in Middle Earth. You, along with many others, follow Eomer into exile. Sarumans forces hunt you and you are running out of food, horses and men. Then one night Gandalf the White arrives to call you to battle. You follow him to Helms Deep and save your people. You follow him to Gondor and are part of the greatest calvery charges in history. You follow him to the Black Gate. You see Sauron fall.
    I want that game.

    Manly tears from one of my favorite passages in ROTK.
    'Hail, King of the Mark!' he said. 'Ride now to victory! Bid Éowyn farewell!' And so he died, and knew not that Éowyn lay near him. And those who stood by wept, crying: 'Théoden King! Théoden King!'

    women then shall weep. War now calls us!

    I'm sad that they cut his part of the two towers down so much, just because PJ didn't want to introduce another character. The way he goes from trading insults with Gimli, to Gimli saving his life, and then him saving his, and singing his praise after the battle, is one of my favorite parts. Plus it would lend the story even more depth, to have Gimli and Éomer separated from the rest as they were, as neither Legolas nor Aragorn knew if they were alive.

    Éomer is such a great character and I love the banter between him and Gimli - especially when he says that Gimli should fetch his axe for he has seen the Lady Galadriel and he does not agree with Gimli that she is the fairest. When Gimli stands, Éomer says to hear him further - that he would have agreed if he had not seen the Lady Arwen, and then says Gimli can fetch his axe. I love Gimli's reply - that he will not for Éomer has chosen the Twilight but his heart is given to the Morning

Karl Urban also did a fantastic job portraying him and I don't think it's spoken about enough that with one spear he took down 2 Oliphaunts. I also didnt know about Eomer's friendship with Boromir so his sister marrying Faramir is even cooler now. Great depiction and great character history on him.

    In many ways, Eomer reminds me of Elendil the Tall. Having to watch the diminishment of his people and the ailing of his king, knowing that evil is within their midst, yet helpless to do anything about it. Yet, he did not falter. Nor did he succumb to despair or darkness of spirit. Instead, he rode as his heart bade him, fought against the evil invading his homeland and ultimately was rewarded with the return of his beloved father/king and then even farther on, with the friendship of King Aragorn and the kingship he never sought.

For some of us, Tolkien's words are more then mere fantasy statements. I can't explain this feeling any better. For me the characters are real; you help bring Tolkien's tales to life and I never tire of listening to them. Thanks for making this effort. Your work is greatly appreciated by many of us. Anyone gets the chance may I suggest the 1987 BBC narration of the LOTR on 13 compact disks with the wonderful Ian Holm as Frodo. There's also the Highbridge LOTR edition from 1993-94. He is perhaps a greater hero than we realized. He kept doing the right thing and aided the right people when he was told not to, doing just enough not to get in trouble until it was time to tip the scales and was never afraid of his enemies.

    Gotta say I love eomer and theodens story arcs as well as eowyns. But I’m curious @MenoftheWest. Would you consider doing a theory of theodens son lived? I feel like there wouldn’t be that much change.

    • @tahlia__nerds_out
      @tahlia__nerds_out 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Imho, Theodon’s son and Eomer together might have been more effective in combating Grima’s influence with Theoden. Sauruman, as a result, might not have been able to obtain quite as much of a foothold as he had in Rohan by the time the Fellowship arrived.

    • @jesuscoyt-munoz2753
      @jesuscoyt-munoz2753 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Tahlia nerds out. Interesting choice of theory I agree with what you said. But I also feel like Rohan would’ve been more organized and mustered with the two princes of Rohan still alive and maybe Theodred would’ve been the one to save Eomer at helms deep instead of gimli.

    • @tahlia__nerds_out
      @tahlia__nerds_out 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jesuscoyt-munoz2753 I agree. Theodred would not have been a background character. It does raise the question though: with Theodred alive, would Eomer been left in charge of Rohan during the defense of Gondor instead of Eowyn? Or would Theoden have chosen to take both young men with him and still left Eowyn in charge of Rohan in his stead?

I’ve seen your video about third age geography and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE another video or two specifically about geography and kingdom boarders and such in different areas, ages, and even about what there is to know about Arda geography as a whole. I LOVE maps almost as much as Mr. Bilbo. More Geography Please. 😊😊😊🌎
