    I can't figure out how to do the poll for book club picks on a Community quiz, because you can only do 4 options on there... And we have 7! 🤯 So I will put the titles as comments here, and you can vote on the ones you might have an opinon on, with a thumbs up or down. Watch the video first though! ^^ 💜

    Hello Ellen, thank you for mentioning mental health May. I hope it becomes a year long event because it’s so important to end the stigma around mental illness.
    It is funny you mentioned a core of phobia because I actually wrote a book, now out of print, called from agoraphobia to Zen. It was about my experience with anxiety disorders of which agoraphobia is that umbrella.
    I enjoy your honesty when you don’t like a book. Sometimes book tubers just talk about books they like. Aloha.

      Hello Marilyn! Thank you for stopping by 😊 I hope so too, it’s definitely important all year round. I was so intrigued by this book, and though it had its merits, it wasn’t the one for me. I would like to learn more about agoraphobia though, so I’ll keep my out for other options. You’re title was amazing! And how cool you wrote a book! I didn’t know that. Well done.
      Hope you’re doing well 💜

      Thanks for hosting the event! Mental health and self care is so important and something we all need to be reminded of. Both for our own sakes and to understand and empathize with others.
      Thank you for being here and you’re more than welcome to join book club whenever 😊💜

    I love how you tried to fit in Bandit Queens with any of the prompts and in the end you were like F*** this, I want to read this book anyway! Hope you enjoy your reading this month!

    This was a lot of fun ^^ I love how creative you are with picking up your TBR :) Also excited for you to read The Bandit Queens, hope you'll like it! I think it fits well with art due to the beautiful cover + also some of the women in the book do make a living with their talents in crafts, it's not a huge topic in the book, but a little touch that works well with your prompt, I think. Happy reading!

      Thank you so much! 😊💜 I’m excited for that one too! And that’s great, that there’s another nod to art in the book, I’ll add that to my list of excuses 😅

    I would be happy to buddy-read, "Stolen" with you and anyone else who can join in May, if you like. Just let me know and I'll get it on my Kindle - it sounds very intriguing! For the future - "The Wager" would definitely be a choice for me!

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes absolutely! Stolen has a couple votes on my pinned comment, so I think that will be one for book club. I’m
      not expecting lots of votes and that’s one that I’m most excited about, so let’s do it! 😄
      And I’ll make a note of The Wager for June, I really want to read that too!
      Thank you! 😊💜

    Interesting to see your decision process. I think you made really good decisions in the long run. You certainly take everything into consideration. Bottom line - enjoy your choices!!! It will be fun to see how this all turns out!

      Haha yes my decision process usually takes the long way round. These are such important choices, you know? 😊 I’m really excited about all of these and I’m glad I went with the excitement and switched Pachinko out for BQ! And I’m also interested to see how it all turns out haha!

    Okay, first up, I love your beautiful TBR jar? Probably the prettiest I have ever seen. Thank you so much for participating and shouting out the Climathon! :) I have actually never heard of "Stolen" and need to check it out :)

    • @ellenmadebookclub

      Thank you so much! It’s an old candle thingy that I’ve had for years, which had an old melted candle and lots of dust bunnies in it… not a great combo. Haven’t lit it for years, so I decided to give it new life as a tbr jar! 😅
      I’ve just gotten started with Stolen, so far so good! I’ve struggled to find books about indigenous peoples who aren’t in the US, Canada or Australia. I think I found some on New Zealand as well, but I think those were a lot older. Any recs?

    • @Tasmetu
      @Tasmetu 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ellenmadebookclub Oh yeah, because of publishing, most are Us, Canada, NZ and Australia. But there are some books about the Sami people, also a few by people from African tribes (it is best to simply google a country or and indigenous ethnicity + book, e.g. "Indonesia indigenous author"). Nemonte Nenquimo is releasing a book this year and there have been other books by indigenous leaders from South America (mostly Brazil / Rainforest). There are also more and more by Pacific Islanders (to which I would count Hawai'i bc culturally they do not belong to the US but the pacific) like Julian Aguon for example. A great but very hard one would also be "The Chief Witness" by Sayragul Sauytbay which is about the harm being done to central asian indig. groups and Muslims in western china.

      @@Tasmetu Thank you! 💚 I will look into all of these, thank you so much. I always find it so hard to know what to trust, as something can be marketed as “authentic” or representative of some culture or other, but as an outsider it’s hard to know which ones are actually representative (at least in part) instead of just… playing to the exotic, or how to put it, and then just being superficial and saying what’s marketable. No one is representing a whole culture of course, but it feels easy to fall into traps sometimes, even with the best intentions. So thank you for these recs. I feel like I have somewhere to start at least :)

    Excellent picks! I had forgotten about your book club so I don't know if I can join for May, although The Bandit Queens sounds so interesting. Maybe I will squeeze it in if it is picked ;) I would be interested in reading Piranesi in June, I was just thinking about it as I was planning my May reading. I hope your horror picks won't be too scary :)

    I don't know why TH-cam deletes my comments. I'm pretty sure I wrote a comment on here. So sad that this keeps happening and I have to check back to see if it's been posted.
    Anyways I didn't know about Asian Readathon, so that might make me inspired to read Tiger Daughter by Rebecca Lim which I have lying on the shelf.

    I love this video!! Also grats on reaching 100 subs 🥰 I feel like would not be able to do the prompt jar because I have 0 ideas about any of the books on my TBR 90% of the time. I don't think it's a stupid idea -- half of the joy of reading is reading books you're looking forward to! Plus you are fulfilling the prompt. Bandit Queen sounds super interesting but I have... a lot of books in my libby that I need to get through them so I can return them 💕 But I will most definitely stop by your bookclub video -- I don't mind spoilers 😂

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much! 💜 And welcome to booktube, I just watched your newbie tag, it was great! I’m very new to having a tbr at all, but the jar is actually very fun! You could always do prompts about external or superficial stuff, like illustrated cover, soft matte, new release, words in the title, colors, brown hair - if you wanted to try it I mean! Not necessary at all 😅
      And you are of course welcome to stop by the book club anytime! I’m allergic to spoilers, but I’m glad you don’t mind! 😄 Welcome to the club!
