18:28 that is so real and i definitely don't think the tiktokification of the book community has helped - some people JUST want to read YA tropes with "spice" and expect a book that's catered to 10 -16 year olds to be sexy and mature. but you're so right that that space is FOR the teens and to see adults put pressure to make YA more and more mature is really sad because then teenagers lose their reading niche and may stop reading all together :(
Yeah, that's a really weird trend... As an adult (kinda) I actually don't read many adult books (I mostly read romance), because I DON'T want any spicy scenes but now even the YA section is full of them. Recently I found the term "closed door romance", so now I try to look books up with that in mind.
i remember seeing ppl complain about the "lack of spice" in the cruel prince series, like it's a YA book, it should not have spice! go read adult books if that's what you're looking for.
i'm absolutely loving this new cinematic era of fictionalfates omg ✨ i've been around since the very first video and it's been so fun to see how your aesthetic has evolved!!
This video is so satisfying omg…10/10 comfort watching vibes. Also yeah the whole consumerism in the book community is something that’s been playing on my mind - especially when books can now have 6+ special editions each, and if people don’t have them, it’s a bit of fomo!
this is the best kind of bookshelf organization video like your explaining the chaos and how it got there, your plan of action, the needed snacks and drinks, and then the realistic process of the organization. it's just perfect!
Hi just discovered you and your vibes, your space, YOUR BOOK TASTES! You just seem like the type of person to make people feel relaxed around. I absolutely love and appreciate the bit of asmr when you move and shift around your books. Gonna be sticking around.
My thing with young adults is that teenagers aren’t really young adults! Just most people combine teen fiction and young adult fiction instead of keeping them separate. I don’t think it’s wrong for people wanting older character young adult books because 25 is still a young adult. They just need to keep teen separate instead of combining.
I completely get where you’re coming from, I don’t think publishers see it in the same way though. It’s just a marketing term imo, teens don’t like being called teens - so they call it YA to be more appealing 🤷♂️ but again, I definitely get you!
The problem isn’t that people put them together, the problem is that someone decided the name for books for teenagers should be “young adult”. Officially ya is books for/about people ages 12-18, which is obviously confusing. There isn’t really a literary category for actual young adults, though people are trying to make new adult a thing for that age category, but yeah young adult has always been the name for books for/about teenagers
@@ForTheLoveOfMusicals at my local bookstores, it’s always been separated at “teen fiction” and then “young adult fiction” even though young adult fiction is still for the age of like 16 year olds which I think we can all agree are not adults LOL. But I also see at like big names like B&N it’s all split into either kids or young adult and I just don’t get it 😂😂😂 Like I don’t understand why it’s never been like kids, teen, young adult, adult OR even kids, pre-teen, teen, young adult, adult because the way it is now it’s so easy for a 12 year old to read a borderline adult young adult book and a new adult reader that’s like 17/18 can try dipping into an adult book and immediately read like a super smutty or super graphic or super extreme kind of book that will like scare them away from the genre. It just seems like they don’t want to take the time to actually sort them and so they just lazily check between two boxes 😭😂😂
@@wolflover306 it really starts at like 11-12 actually. Even like in school curriculum, when assigned reading begins in 6th grade (when you’re 11/12) it’s young adult books. Like where the red fern grows (12 year old boy), the outsiders (14 year old), etc. are all young adult books even though they are nowhere near adults 😂😂😂
I am not sure how I have not found your channel before. You are delightful, and very well dressed, and i am going to be a huge fan. Also Bookcases seem to always be in a constant fight between chaos and organized, the struggle is real.
you have so many special editions and beautiful sprayed edges, waaaaaow! waaaaait the lil secondary shelves behind is so cool! your shelves look so beautiful, and your sweaters look so cozy!
Such a beautiful collection! Also thanks for the invite at the beginning to get a favorite beverage, I made my coffee and got my blanket and am just loving this cozy video
This is incredibly satisfying, especially the cleaning! Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm obsessed with special edition books and seeing so many in this video makes me gush with delight. There are some very sexy books out there 😂
it's been a while since i last watched your videos, but i just fell in love with your personality all over again. love the mini rants on ya novels and book consumerism. i'm not a big fantasy or sci fi reader, but your bookshelf is envious!
Oh I love this!! And thank you for showing the shelves in the before truly like they were, I always feel kind of ashamed of the state of my shleves sometimes and seeing its the same for other people was just really good. Your shelves look sooo good and I love the rug, I have been eyeing it for a long time now as well. I love your special editions so much! I would love a 24 hour readathon video!!
These types of videos are very conforting to me, I love seeing what books people have and when I have them as well it makes me all giddy lol....although I have much less physical copies I have many of your books in audio or ebook version as well so it's nice to know we have similar tastes :)
Really loved this! The books are so beautiful with all their colours and designs. Loved how you organized them and really making me relook at how I organize my books! Thank you!
Just found you and I'm so glad i did! Love your thoughts on consumerism with books. I've been on a book buying ban for a while and while it was hard at first, it feels good!
I’ve been doing this every weekend too at this point! I have bins and shelves just full and so far I’ve gotten through half and downsized half of that half! (4 bins that I passed onto friends) it feels sooo good and it’s fun to rediscover old favorites, books I completely forgot about, and also have the realization that I can let go of some that I’m just not into anymore
I love watching these videos so much as a college student who desperately needs to organize their own shelves, lol. Your videos are great for me when I'm eating lunch alone in the dining hall and I need to decompress before classes 💕
I'm currently reorganizing my books after putting up shelves in another room and I am STRUGGLING. I have so many books that look bad next to each other 😐😶 I have things separated to an extent- series, classics, nonfiction, YA and books for younger ages, and general adult fiction. But I'm contemplating combining things to an extent, mixing things around/together a bit. Idk though and I know to figure out it I'm going to have to rearrange and rearrange and rearrange 😮💨
Hello! I just want you to know that I found one of my favorite books from seeing It on your shelf and thinking it looked cool in your bookshelf building video. I really appreciate this because I love it so so much and I wouldn’t have found it if I t weren’t for your video :D thank youuuuu!!! Also I love the way you say “romance”, I am a Texan and it sounds so funny when I say it with my accent, but with yours it sounds so lovely (the way it probably should sound all the time) 🫶👍😁
Hello, first video I am watching here and your home library is incredible. I am always so sad that in France, we don't have as many beautiful covers as the English books (seriously, why?!) and I am not talking about special editions. Something that really helped me to "reduce" my book purchases is to have a library card. I am more willing to try books I am curious about but not sure I would love, I have no guilt about abandoning stories I don't like, and for the books I really love, I buy physical copies for my own bookshelf. It also allows me to try new genra (I am currently reading lots of YA, sci-fi and Japanese authors books, when I was more a thriller girl). But no judgement at all about how many books a person owns because books brings me joy too. It's just a little tip about how I manage between my "hunger" for reading and my little limited space at home for actual books.
I love bookshelf organizing videos ❤ I mostly organize my own books by genre and last name. Mostly😅 Because it also makes sense to me to have a small shelf for e.g. Japanese literature & witchy books, then some mystery books are too big for those shelves so they're elsewhere and so on.
TH-cam just showed me this in my recommended videos and YOU ARE STUNNING. Haven‘t watched the video yet but immediately clicked on it and I know I will enjoy it. You are literally so handsome oh my god. Tell me your secret! 😭
Awww Joel it was so fun to see your hard work and excitement in this video!!! I find it super interesting the way you display your books outwardly like in a bookstore because I've never done this. Mostly because I've never had the space, but it's such an interesting perspective for the shelves. Do you have a specific plan for the ones you face out or is it just by feeling?
Lovely refresh of your shelves! I'm currently reading through all of the translated fiction I can find that is similar to Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop in some way.

which is why i stick to children's books-
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m sure YA isn’t catered towards 10 year olds, I was more thinking like 16/18-25 maybe?
@@femkie1322yep. Hence the name „young adult“. Middle grade is for ten year olds.

This library is the stuff dreams are made of. Its absolutely gorgeous! 😍
thank you so much!! i love this space so much hehe
I have always wanted a floor to ceiling library like in Beauty and the Beast. Belle was my favorite princess because we both liked to read
Those new Percy Jackson editions look soooooo gooood!
right??? i’m actually obsessed with them
They’re gorgeous, it’s too bad Rick Riordan is a Zionist sympathizer…

its a good day when joel uploads 🥰🥰🥰
i just found your account and i absolutely love the energy in the studio today!
im peeping the principle of moments on your shelf!! still need to read it but i loved following the writers journey on tiktok since release!
I spotted Naomi Novik's Uprooted which is like my all time favourite and I made me happy to see it 🥰
I love a good library reorganization!
Only 43 seconds in and subbed this feels so cinematic. Love the shots and editing

random PVA glue on the shelf is a mood XD unintentionally did the same thing too a while back
Best wishes with what you choose to read. I hope you get some great stories. I'm currently reading the Count of Monte Cristo. I maybe some time!
how to know if you really love and read a book. its when the special editions are on the tbr cart... loooove this vid also
When I organise, these are what go together in their own sections:
- Hardbacks
- Standalones
- Ongoing Series
- Favourites
- TBR
This is really similar to what I do! And then in each section I do author surname a-z.
The Kyosi novels are SO GOOD! Excited to hear your thoughts on it when you get to read them.
i love these kinds of videos soo much!
ahhh i hope you enjoy this one!!
