You did very well, particularly as it's much harder to read 'heavy'books like these than it is a fast paced thriller. I'm not sure I could read that much without audiobooks. I really liked the graphics. The scenery on your trip - endless fields and sunset - reminded me of watching Wallander. I wondered if I was about to watch an episode where he investigated the death of some irritating neighbours :) I hope you ended up enjoying both books. I agree about buddy reading - if you get the right people, it deepens the whole reading experience. You bf's meal has made me feel very hungry, so I'm off to make some dinner.

Like if someone is telling you about their trauma and you're like "ok, ok, just speed it up please!" Haha that's so funny about Wallander! Luckily there was no murder this time (either!), just fields of gold! 😊 I did enjoy both books, to an extent. Have you ever thought about organizing a reading challenge weekend or something like that, a challenge where we can participate, maybe with live sprints or a chat or something to share the progress? That way you would have company doing the challenge, that could also be fun and help with focusing 😊 If you ever do something like that I‘d jump in on that for sure 🙃

That sounds like a lot of fun! The live part scares me too much still 😂 but maybe some other kind of communication/company format could work. Maybe for Beartown, I think that might be one that people could enjoy. I like having everything on TH-cam though, I would like to avoid other platforms as much as possible, unless they are very easy to use for everyone, including myself haha! I've had so many different things to log on to over the years, so the mere thought of a new one stresses me out 😊 But it would be fun to do something together, so I will definitely give it some thought! @@sueysbookbanter Thank you so much! 🥰 I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I’m not sure I could either 😂 I really enjoyed Pachinko. I would have preferred not to read it in such a short time, but it was unlike anything I’ve ever read before and I feel like I learned a lot. I can only imagine the pachinko parlor! I think I envisioned something like a pretty dull hotel lobby kind of atmosphere, full of machines but not a lot of people. But of course there are lots of people! What a cool experience. Of course! Your video was my treat and reward! 😊 So thank you for getting me through this self-inflicted ordeal! 😂
OH I love that bookstore... it is so pretty and well filled with books. :) The whole village is so pretty.. one day I will make it to Sweden. You did awesome on that challenge... I don't think I could read that much in a week. I know I couldn't really.

Big books are already daunting but 3 in one week?! That's crazy 🤣 It's nice how you keep track of your days haha I always forget how long I've been reading for when filming vlogs. Very cute city/town and bookstore 🥰 I feel like its harder to read a lot when you know you have to. "Bucket of Coffee" 😂 I need one of those haha. Congrats on finishing the two books!
@@adarkcornerofthelibrary Haha it was crazy! Had to do it though, and you’re so right, that just made it so much harder 😂 Thank you! I had never heard of it but it was definitely worth a visit. Not cheap, but very cute 😊 It’s always a good time for a bucket of coffee 😂 Not sure it helped that much with my reading though haha! Thank you, and thank you so much for watching 🥰
This is the first video I watched from you but it won’t be the last! I loved the idea of the challenge and also to see that it wasn’t easy but you gave it a real go. I feel very frustrated with the amount I’m reading many times and your video made me feel that there isn’t a need for that really :)
Hi! Welcome! 🥰 Thank you so much! I really tried my best 😄 I get frustrated sometimes too, there are so many books I want to get to and I see other people who can read so much. But the point of reading doesn't have to be to do it fast, better, I think, to focus on reading things that give you what you want in the moment. Whether it's for entertainment or learning or whatever. I get in my head all the time, but that's what I try to remind myself of! I'm glad that was the takeaway for you! That being said, testing the limits is fun sometimes too! 😁 Are you reading anything good at the moment?
@@Bryndisdaugtherofgunnar Thank you! I would love to see your shorty challenge! Please do it! 😁 (be kind to yourself though haha lessons were learned!)
I'm a slow reader so around 100 pages for me means basically the entire day hahahaha You were so brave in this challenge, I wouldn't stand, for real! 🤣Mostly because is hard for me to read more than one or two books at the same time, but I loved your choices of reading!
@@trappedinmybookworld Thank you so much! 😊 It really did take the whole day for me as well. When I’ve read other books I’ve read maybe 30 pages in an hour, so I tried to do the math for three books and it would have been 7 hours a day of reading! 😂 But then of course I read even slower! I really did I my best haha! I don’t usually read more than one book at a time either. Unless one is on audio. So I did one per day, that worked ok. Have you read either of the books? Pachinko was hard but lovely 😊 Thank you for watching and your words of encouragement!
Wow, well done. This video was both stressful and relaxing, in parts! I would not have been able to do this. I would have been overwhelmed but I'm glad you finished 2 books. What a lovely day out you had. It'll be so cold there soon where you are.
Thank you! Sorry for the stressful parts 😂 I was overwhelmed as well, but I did my best and I'm pretty happy with the results! Yes, it did turn out really nice. It's such a cozy town, and perfect weather for a stroll. Oh don't remind me! 😅 We're having a bit of a heat wave now though, so about 26 degrees. I hope you're well! Thank you for watching! 💜
@@ellenmadebookclub 26 degrees is great. In my little corner of England it hasn't reached that all summer. Today has been nice and sunny before the rain returns. Reading Animal Farm today, then I'll move onto Clytemnestra. Have a lovely weekend.
@@helenclare3250 It's been very mild here as well! I'm glad you got a bit of sun though! ☀ After 1984 I'm staying clear of Orwell for a bit, but I hope you like it! I think I will start Clytemnestra soon too, I've been waiting long enough! Happy weekend to you to!
@@ellenmadebookclub It's a long time since I read 1984 but I loved the concept. Animal Farm is a reread and I love it. Short and one of my banned/challenged books. Not banned here but as you'll know from our US friends, they have issues there with this.
@@helenclare3250 Yes, it is an important book and very clear, one I think everyone should read. It was just heavy on my soul. I can imagine Animal farm has similar points or as important. And good for you for reading banned gooks! It’s so wild that that’s even a thing. Speaking of 1984…
READING VLOG 🤩 MY FAVORITE. I'm seated and ready to see how you'll fair... especially since seeing PACHINKO ON IT. OMG. 🤣 I honestly... blacked out how long Pachinko was. I'm so glad I had it as an ebook because that thickness definitely would've... scared me. I've been back in the office for the past week or so, so I feel you!! I have on time to read, and also watch all of booktuber contents 😭 I've definitely started writing notes in a notebook about the books I read versus my phone now because I get so distracted by the notifications as well. The oldest bookstore does not look old at all! I love the color choices they picked for their shelves and walls. It feels much more alive than the black and white aesthetics we have here in some of the bookstores we have 😅 Definitely super cozy with tons of books! I love the day trip clips so much. I feel like I got to travel to your country!! I'm so happy that the support you get for your channel brought up your spirits 🥹 Especially on a rough day like Tuesday! THE PRINT ISSUE WOULD'VE DRIVEN ME WILD 😭😭 I'm so sorry that happened to your book especially during a time crunch like that! It'd definitely be too dizzying for me to read if that happened 😭 You really cranked through at the end there 💪💪 I absolutely love all the different reading positions 🤣 Just fun to see how everyone reads!! I don't know if I love it but I'm glad we were on the same journey of trying to finish all the books we had on our TBR for August without even thinking about it. Was it a great idea in hindsight for me? Probably not, but it was fun watching you do basically the same thing in another continent!! I think you did awesome. 100pgs a day+ is intense.
@@itsmimiduong Haha I know, Pachinko was such a chunky one! So good though, but maybe not the best choice for a powering through kind of week like this one 😂 We both made some choices that might not have been optimal haha but we got it done and now it’s over! 😅 There is too little time for reading and watching everyone’s video that I want to watch… and I should probably get a notebook too. It’s just easier to edit digitally 😭 such problems! The bookstore was so pretty 😍 I loved the green too, and the variety of books. No stacks of the same title like in the bigger stores, just one or maybe two of each. There are more vlogs coming too, we took a couple of other short trips as well that i]I haven’t had the time to edit yet. But they’re coming, so you’ll get to see more of little Swedish towns! 😊 Haha the double print! Omg! As if the story itself wasn’t sickening enough, now I had to read it like that as well 😂 It wasn’t on too many pages but enough to be annoying… It was a library book though, so thankfully not one I had paid for. I have to switch up reading positions every once in a while! Plus I already had hours of me sitting in the same spot and who wants to watch that! 😂 Glad you enjoyed! Thank you for cheering me on and for your always awesome comments! This made my day 😊💜
@@ellenmadebookclub Honestly, at this point, I'm waiting for your video and then... I might put it out of my mind for a while 😭 It was so dark and depressing. Right?? That's why my goal is to just have more time. 🫠 You remember how there was a big Japan earthquake that threw our rotation off and we technically lost micro-seconds? I wish it did the opposite effect 🤣I really enjoy the act of journalling. I even like crossing things out because it can show me what I previously thought! But digital format is just so much more convenient. Not to mention the fact that I type way faster too. OHHH I'm so excited for those vlogs! The towns look so different than what's around me so I love seeing this part of your world. 😍It's definitely strange to me because I'm more familiar with more industrialized(?) places. Usually square, all look the same, and has no life to it almost 😅I think it's just easy and cheap to produce/create so that's the look I often see. @@itsmimiduong It was a bit depressing, but I think it had nice moments too. I have a wrapup and a discussion coming up, so stay tuned, and then we can let it go! 😅 There are square parts (😅) in Sweden too, but there is also old parts where nothing is a right angle, and lots of landscape, because it's so sparse. Oooh, a Big Book reading challenge within the challenge - fun! 204 pages a day - wow! I just had only 3 days to read a 350 page book group book (that would normally take me a week), so I got both the print and audio versions from the library. That really helped! And it definitely helps to put your phone away! I do most of my reading at naptime and bedtime, when my phone isn't even in the same room.=My book group loved Pachinko (the TV adaptation on Apple is excellent, too!). I've only read Kindred by Octavia Butler, but I want to read more from her. It's hard to read that much when you're at home with SO many distractions. I read a LOT more when we're camping, and I have no responsibilities and lots of downtime :) Loved the vlog of your day trip. Well done finishing your Big Book in time! Hope you enjoyed your #BigBookSummer!
Hi Sue! 😄 I meant to summarize my Big Book Summer Challenge in my August wrapup, but I completely forgot! I didn't read the one book I had decided to read specifically for the challenge, which was Ours by Phillip B Williams, but I did read As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh in June, and then Pachinko in August! So I'm still happy with my effort and it was a great time! 😊 Audiobook definitely helps, I agree! I love listening in the car or on walks, also less distractions. I would be curious to see the TV adaptation, I don't have Apple TV, but there seems to have been some good stuff on there that I'm missing. My book club discussion on Pachinko premieres tomorrow, you're more than welcome to join if it suits you!
@@TheLibraryMouseGina It is so pretty! 😊 I hope you’ll make it here one day! Thank you, it was a challenge for sure! It would probably go better with some lighter reads, these books were heavy! Thank you for watching!
Okay, I so relate to this! My problem is that I tend to have too many books going at once, but it still ends up being a rush to get books done!
@@awebofstories The problems we create for ourselves! 😂
You are a champ 🏆💪🏽🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!
Haha thank you so much! 😁🥰💜
I’ve never done a vlog like this before so it was a learning curve, and I filmed waaaay too much! But better that than too little I guess.
The bookstore was such a nice surprise!
@@ellenmadebookclub Yes, I agree! I’m currently reading The Makioka Sisters and I’m really enjoying it 😌
@@theknightssayme That does sound really good! Added to the list, thanks! 😁 Enjoy!
You did awesome!!!
Thank you so much Maeve! 😊
Well done! I love these challenges, am thinking about doing one myself but with shorties 😊
@@ellenmadebookclub Your welcome!! Pachinko has been on my list since a while, so as Octavia E. Bluter's books, but I haven't read them yet...
@@trappedinmybookworld There are so many books to get to 😊
Wow, well done.
It'd definitely be too dizzying for me to read if that happened 😭
You really cranked through at the end there 💪💪 I absolutely love all the different reading positions 🤣 Just fun to see how everyone reads!!
There is too little time for reading and watching everyone’s video that I want to watch… and I should probably get a notebook too.
Haha the double print!
So every time I see snippets of towns in Sweden, I'm most definitely in awe!
I'm glad that it was a library book. I know it would drive me nuts knowing it was mine 😬😬 I think I would've just DNF'd the book. "This is my last straw" 😂😂
Love love love your content! Always excited to see your video pop up on my page. Honestly happy to whatever forces geared me towards your videos because nothing but laughs and thought provoking things come from your videos 🥹🥹
@@itsmimiduong It was a bit depressing, but I think it had nice moments too. I have a wrapup and a discussion coming up, so stay tuned, and then we can let it go! 😅
There are square parts (😅) in Sweden too, but there is also old parts where nothing is a right angle, and lots of landscape, because it's so sparse. There are twice as many people in the Greater LA Area than in the whole of Sweden. But I also like the smaller towns better so that's what you'll see I guess!
Thank you so much Mimi, that makes me really happy to hear! I'm very glad we've met on here too, you are so funny and smart and sweet! 💜
AMB👏BI👏TION👏 We love to see it! You did SO good! What a challenge 😜 But also, please, make sure you don't burn yourself out. It seems like this wasn't totally enjoyable for you and I understand why you wanted to do this challenge, but at the same time, if you're not having a good time, why inflict that on yourself? At least, the video was super fun to watch, so there's at least that 🤗
@@Curious-Cat Thank you for the cheer! And the care! 💜😊 It was not entirely enjoyable, you are absolutely right! But it was for a set time period and I wanted to test my limits a bit. It also took my mind off other things that I didn’t want to think about, and I got my books read 😂 But yeah, not something I would want to set as a standard practice. Also these books were very heavy to do a challenge like this with, like I could have gone with something lighter 😂 Anyways! I’m glad you enjoyed the video at least, and thank you for looking out for me! I was just about to email you to see how you were doing, so I was very happy to hear from you here 😊 I hope you’re doing well!
@@ellenmadebookclub Thanks :) Yeah, I need to respond to your email! Feeling a bit overwhelmed at the minute (what is new?) ^^'
@@Curious-Cat No rush! I get it, as you know 🙃
Oooh, a Big Book reading challenge within the challenge - fun!
I want to read Kindred as well, but for now I need some books to make me happy for a while, that was some intense reading! 😅
Thank you so much for watching and hosting the big book summer challenge! 💜 I heard it went especially well this year! 🎉
@@ellenmadebookclub So glad you enjoyed the challenge and read some great books! I'm just now seeing your note because we were on vacation, but I hope your book group discussion went well!
@@SueJacksonDE How lovely! I hope you had a good trip! Yes, the video is up on the channel if you're curious!😊
BIG books! 200 pages in one day is do-able for me. But not day after day after day....I have to really, really like the book, too.
Yes, exactly! I did kind of enjoy these books too, one more than the other, but they both took a lot of mental energy and emotional toll. I really need to get into the enjoyable ones 😅 I did my best though! Thank you for watching! 💜

@@BeyondBooks-wt5il Thank you! 🥰
I love a challenge but there's always them moments that we think "whyyyyyyy" 😂
@@TheBookHerm Haha very true! 😂
I'm going to assume you succeeded. I can't read big books, especially more than one every few months because, well, I don't like big books and, for me, it's a bit of a waste of time to be doing something you don't enjoy. I'm weird, though.
@@MrRosebeing Well kind of! I prefer shorter books too, but sometimes the ones I want to read happen to be longer. I do enjoy testing my limits sometimes and challenging myself. You do you! 🙂 Thank you for watching!
@@ellenmadebookclub You're welcome. I have read big books, but I usually only read them if they have a special meaning for me. My comment was badly phrased, if you enjoyed the books who am I to judge?
I enjoy writing, so sometimes the comment becomes more important than the thought process behind it, sadly.
@@MrRosebeing Of course. I appreciate your self awareness 😊 We all say things sometimes without being sure how they will land, but I agree, let’s not judge! Do you write novels?
