That has to be one of the lightest free standing awnings on the market. I was concerned that the shade material was more of a tent material rather than canvas and would not be tough enough or offer enough protection against the sun's heat but it sounds like you give it a big thumbs up.
Hey mate, yes I had the exact same thought and was super surprised at how good quality the material was. With the weight they did up the weight by a kilogram after this video. Very affordable as well!
Hey mate, Great video. Looking at buying one myself also for a 4x4 wagon, but seeing the distance (lack of coverage) over the rear door is not reassuring! How did it end up going in the weather and rain? I live in VIC and so that coverage over the rear door is a must. Thanks in advance for any tips :)
Hey mate, thank you! Look, the coverage over the rear door admittedly doesn't look like a lot. In saying that we had enough coverage that we could have the barn door table down, have access to the fridge and drawers without getting wet. Held up pretty well in the rain, had a little bit of pooling on the awning which sorted itself out once we lifted the 'peg' on the centre crossbar. I've seen other 270 awnings which have a lot more coverage over the sides and rear door, most of them have poles but the one I have seen that was still free standing weighed a lot more than this one. I think that's what it comes down too in the end, there is only so much coverage you can achieve while keeping the weight right down there. Enjoy the travels!
Take a look at the OCAM freestanding, it has 3 integrated poles as part of the awnings arms if you need them that clip into the awning arms and fold away with the awning Drifta has no details on the website about this awning so I don't think they really care about it, plenty of pics but nothing about it's construction etc, the OCAM has 600D Oxford Fabric, flip up water deflector post, it's cheaper than Drifta, I think they missed the boat with this execution of this one.
Hey mate. Great job on the video. One thing. The way it is mounted is not what we generally recommend. Talking with Luke we recommend 4 brackets not 3. 2 reinforced and 2 standard (however 4 reinforced can be used as well). Luke has a video that shows this. I work at the Slacks Creek store and have made a video for Luke showing the best way to mount the awning. You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/MlhqXii3rvs/w-d-xo.html Regarding installation on the Wildlands RTT. I did it myself. The kit comes with two different bolts. Instead of using the narrow bolts (which I agree... you need 2 -3 people), I used the wider ones as they would not come out, and found if you place the head of a screw driver beside the bolt in the channel, you can tighten it without issue. This way you only need one person. Place the brackets onto the awning loosely, lift the awning up and secure one bolt at each end. The rest can then be done up after moving the brackets into the correct locations. I am trialing a gutter guard at the back. Seems to work well at stopping water coming it that area. Also trying one on the side. Just haven't posted it yet as I want tio be sure it works well. Also the weight of the awning is 17.8Kgs. It was revised when the last order arrived in. Also try these out! They are awesome!! www.bunnings.com.au/grunt-6mm-x-2-4m-rope-ratchet-tie-down_p0013505
Thanks mate! Gonna have to check out your video on installation, when we got the awning there wasn't a lot of instruction on installation. We were also only given the 3 brackets, I know a few others that have bought the awning so I'll have to check with them if they have 4 brackets. I'll add a pop up on the video to advise of the weight change, thank you for the heads up! We are keen to see what you have come up with regarding the gutter cover as well. Those tie down straps look perfect, definitely going to pick some of them up! Cheers mate!
How's the temperature when you're sitting under the awning in the sun? I've found some awnings to be much hotter than others. I was considering the drifta or the bushwakka but have seen some mixed reviews of the bushwakka.
Hey mate, we can only vouch for this one but we found it doesn't really absorb heat, packing it up after it has been in the sun for a few hours the material wasn't hot to touch and as long as we parked the Patrol parallel to the sun we were able to get plenty of shade! Cheers
Good to see you set it up and pack down in the wind, looks like it's well built! And a true freestanding awning that weighs less than 20kgs...

Hey thanks for the review - just wondering if you find this awning large enough? Doesn’t seem to extend far out from the vehicle…
Great review mate, looking at getting one soon and you’ve just made me a little more confident again 🤙🏾
Thanks legend, let us know if you have any more questions!

Dimensions packed up? Can’t find anything online
Which one is it? Looks like the smaller lightweight version?
Yes, it is the light version

@@lahilladventures4324 great video. Any update from drifta on the gutter guard?
Hey mate, No. Best to message them, they are usually pretty good at custom work! Cheers
