G’day mate The small bolt that came with the awning is the one you use to attach the bracket to the roof bar. Take the rubber out of the bar. Slide the bolt head upside down into the groove where the rubber was with the threads pointing to the sky. That’s why that small bolt has a funny shaped head. It slides into the groove where the rubber is in the bar Place the cutout in the bracket on top of the upside down bolt and tighten down with a nut. The cutout is elongated so you can slide it around to get the best position. Replace the rubber if you want to by cutting it into sections to fill in the gaps No need to drill anything. Hope this helps
Hey Mark, really appreciate your detailed instructions which will certainly help anyone watching here, who's looking to install an awning avoid my rookie mistake. I certainly went the hard way about fitting it. Lesson learnt :) Thanks again mate, appreciated.
Thanks so much for watching the video! Do you own a Drifta Stockton 270? Let us know what you think of it and how you like it? If you enjoyed this video please give us a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. Cheers ✌
Yeah that’s the whole point of the channel in the top of the roof rack and the bolts they supplied would slide in the channel perfectly with no drilling 😂 live and learn ey
No concerns for cracking your canopy or breaking your racks by fixing the awning to both the canopy and the roof of the cab? Just read a fair few things saying it can damage one or both if you go over undulations and the canopy flexes too much.
Interesting point, I hadn’t heard happening before. Not sure how you could attach otherwise due to the length. I’ve done a fair bit of travelling in it so far including Birdsville and back and haven’t had an issues so far. I’ll keep an eye on it. Thanks ✌🏻
@@TheBeatenTrak i had my rhino batwing (2.45m and 22kg) mounted the same as you have on my old Hi-ride (2wd Dmax). However once I bought a 4wd I mounted it to the roof platform only, it hangs over the rear of the rack at absolute recommended maximum but also falls short of the rear of the canopy by about 200-300mm. It’s not ideal and am currently searching for an alternative mounting solution before I go and buy a heavier freestanding awning.

Nice mate, 270 freestanding are bloody awesome! So handy and easy to setup! I’ve got the OCAM👌
Yeah mate they sure are! It’s a game changer 🙌🏻
Should have drilled a small pilot hole first
Yep, I did all different size drill bits off camera but nothing cut into it. Good tip though :)
You don’t have to drill a hole in the roof racks, you could’ve just got extra of those things you slid into the awning and put them in the roof racks

Yep, channel nuts. Rhino rack make them too
