Excellent clip as always, your problems are all very similar to everyone elses just on a far bigger scale. Sadly since coming out of the EU the uk have a big opportunity to lead food production in Europe by allowing the use of certain products in your chemical armoury but they never will. Looking forward to the next update.

Do you think that all these wild flower seed margins the governments have pushed on farmers is going to contribute to weed problems. I notice the Americans mow all the grass margins around there crops to help prevent ergo getting into to the grain crops.

Well James another great update and your still smiling and laughing. Down here in South Wiltshire we cant blame the mud lumps for being to hard to cause a puncture as it normally contains a Wiltshire Diamond ( Flint) that causes all the damage.
very interesting to here the Aussie take on Ryegrass and a wake up call focus not to be complacent. Hope the weather holds and all the best.

Have you thought about whole crop?
We had a big issue with black grass, local AD plant whole cropped it early enough taking the heads and we haven’t seen any in that field since.
I think that’s the way forward for us, we had some Digestate back too which is pasteurised to kill any seeds coming back so not to spread the issue to another field

Hi James, great video again. Just one thing I would like to ask is: Why not have the lorries go into the fields and load them from the combines? It would save time and free up manpower, plus free up tractors. I guess you do not do this because the straw would be in the way, the lorries may get punchers, and when it's wet, the lorries could get stuck as well. ?

  • @user-mw1pl2ul5d

Ploughing would be a major help with grass weed control even if just plough the worst effected parts of fields. Also they tell me! the old combines used to collect the weed seed in a separate bag, with today's technology similar collection could be done in bulk with a separate weed seed tank.

If government is restricting chemical to control then long fallowing and get a payment.
Either mechanical or chemical control. Or planting it to a rye grass and cutting it for silage multiple times in a season will reduce seed bank.
Short term financial pain but long term viability

Time to talk money. Machinery, trucks & inputs are expensive. What are these drivers getting paid to operate all this expensive stuff? Apparently pay in NZL is fairly rubbish (was reliably informed $26-30 per hour). Australia does much better due to employment legislations, leave loading, superannuation etc. I have no idea of pay rates in England.
