One of the most honest ,to the point interviews i've seen with an overseas food producer (farmer). Well presented Mr Peck, and great to hear from your ploughman, shows the skills involved in working with big machinery. Great vlog as usual, well done the video and editing dept.

I didn't hear him mention but watching another farmer, he'd said they're not allowed to harvest above a certain temperature because of the risk of fire. Can't remember the temp.

@roberthiggins6401 we get fire ban days during harvest it is a combination of temperature and wind speed not temperature only.

Fantastic video, the firestick 'failure' is really important as I am sure many people see the on-line videos and think 'thats that' whereas knowing how to and where to use them seems critical.

Love this vlogs as someone who grew up on the farms bailing at 16 years ploughing with a two furrow plough with a land wheel in east lothian scotland 1967 then ending up working in Lincolnshire running potatoes operation wish I had come across px operation b4
I moved back to scotland seems like great company to work for

Thank you James for the update, it was really as always very informative, the interview with David from Australia was so educational, just shows the comparison and your questions to him were fantastic. those firesticks are nothing like they are advertised, I am a qualified extinguisher engineer and have look into those, yes small fire like a you showed in the barrel is about all they can do, but in the harvest field or grain dryer, waste of money. I as an x Frontier grain store manager of 32 years, really enjoy when you are talking, stores, dryers etc, just right in to my barrow. thanks again James, keep up the great work

Great video, James … one of the best. The chat with David about opportunities in agriculture in Australia was really interesting … great interview … you really brought out all the relevant and interesting detail … Sounds like it was a land of opportunity for those who were brave enough 20 years ago and were willing to work hard … sounds like there are still good opportunities for young people out there. Very interesting to compare and contrast to the situation here in the UK … Lots of food for thought …
Looking forward to lots of harvest content over the next couple of weeks.
You clearly invest a lot of time and effort into these videos … Just to say it is much appreciated by me and clearly of thousands of other people …

So many similarities with the Australian gentleman to what I have found farming here in the Saskatchewan Prairie.
We came from England, bought land, some of the best land in the area, for $520/acre in 2000. We have quadrupled the size of the farm, expanding by renting, but over the last 2 years we have bought the majority of that rented land due to the health issues of our elderly landlords. A neighbouring block of land, which we do not farm, has just come on the market at $2875/acre, but is poor land, only 80% of the block is farmable.
We have found, as your Australian chap is experiencing, that the land is improving with better farming practices. Most of the land had been under a summer fallow system, weed control using steel one year with a crop the alternate year, and minimal or zero inputs!
Needless to say, this progress is almost universal across the prairies, with very significant average yield improvement, especially during the last 4 or 5 years.

A thoroughly enjoyable and fascinating episode. I’m not a farmer but live in a rural farming area in the south west. The insight into farming in Western Australia was a revelation compared to the UK. Thank you for that, and if you ever have the opportunity it would be interesting to have a similar interview with an American or Canadian. I have had the opportunity to attend a firefighting course and would thoroughly recommend it to all, not simply for work place fires but how to deal with domestic blazes as well, e.g. chip pan or automotive fires and how to safely exit a smoked filled building. All very worthwhile. I hope you’re able to bring in the crops next week, and do so safely. You do your company proud and PX Farms looks like a great place to live, work and grow. Thanks again !

Thanks again James, the discussion with Paul on his Australian farming operation was captivating, the scale to which his business has grown and how equally as challenging farming is, whether in the UK or Australia. Interested also with your questions on Uk perceptions of the recent trade deals, in talking with Paul this perhaps brings a better perspective on quality controls they operate to. Very much appreciate your videos, keep them coming. All the best. Ian

Great vid James - thank you - the insight into Australian farming was a revelation - i never appreciated the population/area differences between the UK and OZ! The financial returns from land purchase in OZ are unreal - when do you start down under? The Nuffield Scholarship is a great institution for information transfer globally! What you both demonstrated so clearly is that farming is now for professionally motivated "Businesses" with a capital B where attention to detail is paramount and care for the environment and the soil is at the forefront of all you do

    I liked the ploughing video.
Having come out of farming 20 years ago the last plough set up I used was on a farm that bought a class challenger 55 to pull a nine furrow plough. It was hopeless, the 240 hp would have been good for 7 furrows max on heavy clay land. I pulled my hair out that summer scrabbling, with the back four up in the air most the time.

Interesting results with the Firestick compared with the powder extingisher. I have always thought that with combine / tractor fires, water is best as co2 and powder devices tend to blow hot embers around. Obviously electrical fires require a different system. Look forward to see the response from the manufacturers of Firestick.

2001 myself and 5 mates travelling around Australia and we crossed over from Sydney to Perth. We were hoping to get to Perth by Xmas eve 7 weeks 1974 VW comb camper van 1982
hi-ace van. We had some craic. ☘️💚. But vw started to run on 3 cylinders and we were in Esperance on Xmas eve and we were lucky enough a guy who was in to vw was able to help out with the parts. He had beautiful vw beach buggy and his pride and joy and all the other vw had a different model engine.
But fair play to him took the top off the engine and gave us the part.
His son was doing something to his Ute pickup and just said what size engine was it and he said 6,2 or 7.3. I told him in Ireland all you get 1.4 or 2.0. And he just laughed at me and said the only thing you get in 2 litres in Australia was milk and coke 🙈😳🤣☘️💚
We arrived in Perth and stayed there for a while
But I was working on a building site and got talking with one of guys who was from a farm back ground and we talked about the different types of farming
He said how many acres are you farming back home I said 250 acres feeling good about it and I said how many acres are you farming 1.5 million acres
North of Perth but said that it’s not that good for anything
    🔥☘️💚👍
