    Jason, do you know if you can put Armor shield on paint protection film??
    Apparently once you apply the coating you are supposed to wait for it to flash (rainbow effect) before waping it off.
    Is that true?
    Did you notice the product flashing?

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, Armor Shield is good for any surface like vinyl decals, striping, and any sort of car wraps, etc. I am not 100% sold on "flashing". I see people post about it, but not all coatings have the same properties so I choose to follow the directions first. It has worked for me in the 3 or so years I have been using it.

    Great video! Watched it several times before attempting it on my Jaguar F-type. Surface prep is paramount! Washed the car about 2 weeks ago and used Griot's Garage Synthetic clay, then washed it again the day before applying Armor Shield, two bucket method, and another Synthetic clay pass and then the IPA wipe. It's 'winter in Wisconsin' so warmed up the garage to about 70 and shut off the heat. Used a digital (non-contact) laser thermometer to check the temp of surface panels. Divided the car into workable sections and started with the panel that has the rear license plate, as a test. Panels were about 63/65 degrees, buffed the first one after 3 minutes, a bit too long to wait, so knocked it down to 2 and a half min. Put my timer in a zip lock bag so not to get coating on it. I was concerned about the coating setting up (like varnish) that would make subsequent same-panel passes messy, but that was not the case. Also used the suggestion to cut slits along the long sides of the applicator sponge I then used a tongue-depressor/popsicle stick to push the application cloth into the slits to tighten it up. The paint looked better after the syn. clay cleaning, but really shines now with the coating.

I tried their leather cleaner. Awful stuff. You might as well take your leather and throw it in a swamp and then beat on it to condition it. It's about the same effectiveness.

    I can't work out why this product either gets rave reviews, or gets slammed as complete crap. Surface prep aside, do you think there are inconsistencies in the quality of the product?

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a fair question. I know they have done some improvements to the product a few years ago, I don't know if they have done any recently. My _assumptions_ are the following...
      1) There's people like me who bought it and follow the application instructions completely. Typically, they are happy.
      2) There's people who bought it don't follow the application instructions wonder why it didn't work. Typically, they say it is junk.
      3) There's people say it is the same as the $4 bottles of snake oil on Aliexpress (they are not)....which they also haven't bought or have bought and since it $4 junk, it doesn't work and therefore, none of it works. Typically, they say it is "cheap Chinese junk".
      4) There is what I believe to be most people who never bought it, never tried it, don't believe anything anyone says about it (no matter how honest). Typically, they say it is complete crap.
      I am sure there's other cases where it just didn't work for no real reason. It happens, it is not a miracle product but it does come with a guarantee that I am sure people in the 2nd example above don't bother to try.
      Personally, I still think it is the best value out there in terms of quality vs price. I still use it and I am going to put it on a 5th car soon that I just took delivery of a couple of days ago.

    Great video Jason. I have a new SUV that is 2 months old and I have applied Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Spray coating to it. You might be OK with just using the prep shampoo, clay, and IPA wipe but I can't guarantee that it will be enough. It depends on how good the Turtle Wax stuff is. :) You may need to do a full polish to make sure it is fully removed.

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If is not much different to apply a second coat, but the important part is you need to remove anything left of the old application before adding a new one. So for a second application, you need to use a very high pH car soap like a Prep Shampoo (Avalon King sells one that I have used and I like it). Then you need do a VERY thorough clay treatment covering every area of the paint surface. If you feel that didn't remove it all, a polishing wheel and some compound will also do the trick if you feel comfortable with it. Then an IPA wipe and application like before.

    I know you don't have to, especially on a new vehicle. but even a quick one step one pass polish before the alcohol wipe down makes the world of difference just to level and smooth the surface for the coating. I applied to 2 brand new cars. 1 just quick clay towered. the other I didn't clay. I just quick polished. and the polished vehicle was superior to the one I clayed. so if you're going to skip anything. skip the clay process and polish the car instead. love armour 🛡 is awesome for the price. great video

    Great vid. I apologize if you answered this before but is ceramic coating like a wax? Is there pros and cons to waxing a vehicle after you have ceramic coated it? Will the wax buff off layers or the protection of the ceramic?

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kind of like a wax, but so much tougher. What it does is fill in the microscopic cracks and crevices in the paint surface to make it smooth, and the hard properties last a long time. Putting wax on it is usually pointless, because the wax has nothing to "grab" onto and will typically come right off. See question 7 in this video here: th-cam.com/video/sfI6hNbc_4s/w-d-xo.html

      The question is which Nano Bond will you get? If you get it from eBay, or an Amazon seller, or AliExpress...you don't know if you are getting fake stuff/knock off or if it is old stock or whatever. That's why I like Avalon King...they don't have distributors so you get the real deal directly from them. Plus, you also get customer support and service with Avalon King....and a warranty that can't be beat. I looked around and found what APPEARS to be a legit direct source for Nano Bond...and they get $40 a bottle with no customer service contact number or any kind warranty. When using my coupon code, Armor Shield doesn't cost much more and in my book, with the extra few bucks for a better product overall if you consider that peace of mind knowing you are getting a legit product with a warranty.

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Fred. This has been quite the common question, and a good one at that. Here's my current personal suggestions on the subject as I have been following it for a bit. Based on what I have learned, overall, _any_ SiO2 spray topper will fine...so use your favorite. Don't have one? I believe at one point in the past, Avalon King mentioned in one of their blog posts to use Adam's Ceramic Boost geni.us/AdamCeramicBoost. *However*, I have also heard some VERY good things about Griot's Garage 3-in-1 Ceramic Wax geni.us/Griots3in1 . I will be using that because for the money, you can't beat it.
      Last note...Avalon King has been working on their own. They sent me a couple of formulas to try around a year ago. I can't say anything more at this time, nor do I know if they will actually release it...but it is cool to know they are always looking to up their game. Until then, use the Griot's or the Adam's mentioned above.

    Jason I have a new car and going to do this process. My question is my car has a sealant on it from the dealership, should I "strip" it first before using the iron gel? If so, then can I do the clay mitt and dawn to strip it and then do the iron gel? That way it is the same amount of prep.

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I want to be careful on how I answer this, because I'm not sure what kind of sealant your dealership used. *Typically* , I would say yes try to remove any sealant of sorts from the surface before you apply the fallout remover gel, because I am thinking that a sealant might prevent the gel from doing its job. Then you can do the rest of the process. However, I would check with your dealerships body shop just to make sure of the right way to remove the sealant.

    Hey Mate, I have the ceramic kit and am
    Looking at coating my white Subaru. However I don’t have access to a garage only a carport that is open air (just a shelter). A bit hesitant on applying the coating as I read
    Online you need to apply the car coating under 70% humidity ? Did you check this when applying? Also it says try to avoid driving in rain but it’s spring here in New Zealand and the weather is a bit temperamental… Outside of that 48 hours curing time, would my coating be ruined if I drove it in rain?

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a common problem, and I understand it well. In your case, you should to do a bit of planning for when the humidity is right and the wind/dust is minimal and the forecast itself is optimal. Do your best to find the window of time and environment and it will suit you better than just doing it whenever. If you have to make sacrifices, it is not a HIUGE deal...you might need to reapply a bit sooner down the road, so to speak, but whatever steps you can take to get the surface as pure as you can before application....and then whatever you can do to keep it pure after application...will reduce the need to reapply in the future. Hope this helps.
      BTW...I hear New Zealand is quite wonderful. I've always wanted to visit and see for myself. ❤

    Jason, I recently put a first coat of Armor Shield IX to my 2019 Mustang and was careful to apply it only to painted surfaces. The car is dark green. I did this prior to watching your video. Thanks to your video I plan on going back and putting it on both the vinyl surfaces and the glass before applying a second coat. My question to you is did I put too little on since I still have a good two thirds of the bottle left? And since it's been a week since I applied the first coat what do I need to do the make sure the surface is clean prior to applying the second coat? By the way, the car only has on 31.5 miles on it. It has been sitting in my garage and has not been driven by me since I purchased it from the dealership in the fall of 2019. It was trailered to my garage from the dealership.

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mark. Here's my thoughts... If you only did one coat on painted surfaces, I don't think you put too little on. Many people think it needs to go on thick, but it is not like good steak sauce on a bad steak...more than needed won't make it any better. 😆😆. If it has been a week since the 1st coat and haven't driven it much (or any) since then, what I would do it mist it with clean water, use a clean microfiber to gently dry it thoroughly (also consider a leaf blower on low setting), and then apply the second coat...which will only cover any spots you might have missed in the 1st coat. Give that a try and let me know how it works out for you. Like I said in this video, you can't really screw it up unless you try. :)
      31.5 miles since new? Sounds like something special. Tell me more about it.

      Good question. There's a lot of options out there when it comes to ceramic coatings. Sometimes, if I see that I have to fill out a form just to get an idea of the cost (like System X)...there's a good chance it is not for me. I mentioned in my very first video about this (th-cam.com/video/5_hDpIAK7Ns/w-d-xo.html) that it can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars to get ceramic coating done on a car. I thought I'd be smart and start with the affordable option (Armor Shield) that I have seen recommended elsewhere and if it didn't work, I'd use the money back guarantee and step up to something else. I guess I got lucky because that first choice was the right one for me. I have been using Armor Shield for years now and I am very happy with it for my needs and use. I could have spent a couple thousand more dollars (or more) on another product, but I always ask....would it have made my car look a thousands of dollars better? Again, not for my needs and use.

I do have one question: I have a blue 2021 CR-V that I want to apply Armor Shield. After the "clay" with the mitt, can I go straight into the IPA wipe down or do I need to polish? My concern is to scratch the paint if only doing the clay stage. My paint only has very little and minor scratches so if I can skip clay and polish altogether and go from chemical decontamination to IPA and then Armor Shield I'd rather do that. Thanks again for your content and effort to educate newbies like me!

      @InJasonsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad my videos help you out! Polishing is not a requirement, only if you feel your paint needs it and from the sounds of it, it doesn't. Same goes for clay treatment, if you think the paint is perfect with no sap, grime or contaminants that washing can't remove, then you can skip the clay as well. However, I suggest you still do the clay just in case to ensure that Armor Shield will be able to adhere to the paint optimally. If you are concerned about scratching during the clay treatment, use the same mitt hat I use, be extra careful, and you should be fine.

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, Greg. I have done four cars so far. Three of them sat outside 100% of the time. The colors are dark brown, silver and dark blue (see my other vids). And when it rains, it does leave water spots being the dirt and minerals left over after the raindrop dries. Here in Tennessee, it can be sunny and then rains and then is sunny again all in a 30 minute span. So sometimes I do get water spots, but they aren't stubborn. In fact, sometimes it just takes a standard drive to the store or whatever to blow most of the minerals and such off. The rest can be removed with quick detailer...or more rain. :). Short version...I don't think anything can stop water spots from appearing (unless you keep it in a garage)...but Armor Shield seems to do a pretty good job preventing them from embedding. That's the key.

      @@InJasonsGarage Oh nice! And approximately how long was the application process?

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ranayeem It all depends on your skill, the size of the car, etc. You can probably do the basic application in a couple of hours, and the optimal application is 3-5.

    What happens if it gets wet after 24hrs a pop up rain cloud

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That all depends on the level of "wet" it gets. 😀. Are we talking a few sprinkles here and there or a lot of rain on most of the vehicle surface?

      @@InJasonsGarage a pop up rain shower

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikerossi1618 There are a lot of variables. It depends on how much time has passed (how much the coating cured), how wet it got, how much of the coating it impacted. One way to test is to let it fully cure and then do a quick water test to see how it beads and/or sheets. That will hep you determine if you need to do another application.
