Why does anyone watching your channel, whom is a car enthusiast feel the need to criticize your paint correction cost of a car you love and enjoy. The car could be worth a dollar and if you love it the cost to make it it’s best is irrelevant. So the car isn’t worth the original sticker price any more and the correction was about $3k. You have brought the E55 to such a perfect level for a car with a cult following anyway. If enthusiasts didn’t pour money into car restoration all examples of historical vehicles would have been lost. Completely agree with you James. I have a 2013, 68K miles Lincoln MKS Ecoboost that's worth about $18K. To replace it with a similarly equipped 3 year old vehicle would cost at least $30K-ish most of which have interiors in not as good a shape as my car. So this is a no-brainer. You can get a 1 step kit from Chemical Guys with their TORQ orbital machine for about $160. Still inexpensive, and my wife has a car too so the cost of the machine gets leveraged with repeat usage.

I've always used WD40 for tar, bugs etc. Works like a champ and after using it for almost 30 years hasn't done any damage to the paint. Quite the opposite actually. Best way to purchase is a gallon jug and use your own spray bottle. Crazy economical when purchased like that
Also, there is no such thing as clean rinse bucket water. As soon as you put that dirty mitt in it, it's dirty rinse water, so why would you rinse you mitt with dirty rinse water? Love videos like this that shows that you don't have to spend $100,000 (or £s) to have a car that looks like its worth $100,000 or more 👌. Great videos. Keep em coming. Cheers, Jon.
Tip: To get that tar off the underside paint and wheel wells, and wherever you find it, I use an older piece of clay bar that is due to be thrown out. That combined with a liquid tar remover instead of the normal clay bar lubricant will same you a lot of time and effort.
I know i'm going to catch a lot of hate for this but a rag with a little bit of gasoline with take the tar off immediately. Now before everyone screams about it ruining the paint, how many times have you seen paint damaged near the fuel filler for as often as lazy people spill on the paint surrounding? pretty much never. The gas rubbed on lightly will only remove any wax/protectant that is there. which you are going to redo anyways.
The paving crews use kerosene to remove asphalt, the EPA requires some citrus stuff. A little lamp oil on a rag should also work to remove tar as an alternative solution.
I did it on my 09 Lancer and 2014 Highlander. The c53 looks great. It seems the the left rear quarter was resprayed and has a different silver lighter tone?
If you use AM details clay bar you don’t need a crappy clay lube and just use water. Great vid. Not sure about $100 as a polisher ranges from $75-500. Then pads, etc, etc. But your right in that you’ve only scratched the surface and there is a deep hole when it comes to correction and perfection. 👍
Has the rear panel been repainted? I've heard matching paint on the old 744 brilliant silver metallic paints are NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. You can never get the shade right
Jordy Westerhof I thought the same thing, maybe it was just the angle or a reflection in the garage, but then I saw 16:48 and yeah, it’s definitely been repainted before
I do. I hated how my local detail shop left haze in my paint. So I got on TH-cam and found Scott from Dallas Paint correction. His videos are extremely informative. I went out and bought the Griot's Boss system and couldn't be happier. Now I'm doing other people's cars and making side cash 👍🏼
I do this at home, and have been doing so for quite a few years. Keeping my cars nice is something I'm fairly OCD about, and detailing is part of that... I take it further than I need to though, as my product/machine collection will attest to. Plus, having worked in a body shop years ago, I've seen just how horrible 'buffing' results in a production setting can be!
Just some advice. I own a 2009 SL550 tuxedo black w/light tan interior. It currently has 12.6k miles and is NOT a daily driver. I don't park the car under trees (bird poop, tree sap, leaves), power lines (bird poop), or under tall signs or downwind from them (again bird poop). When I park it in the public, it gets parked in the "middle of nowhere" because people can ding your car and really don't care. The car gets waxed 2x every 6 months as well as care for the leather interior and rubber seals throughout the car. It never gets driven in the rain or closely behind cement trucks, 18 wheelers haulin dirt/sand, or 4x4's that just went mud doggin. My daily driver is a 2009 Sonata with 123k miles on it. Get yourself a cheap daily driver while the Merc sits in the garage. Ever watch the movie Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze?? ....just my 2 cents. One more thing, both cars a garage kept in an air conditioned garage...except for the winter months.
If one has an enjoyment vehicle, enjoy it. Mercedes that sit develop under usage problems. Not exactly common but the AGM battery and Airmatic system need exercise to stay healthy and pliable. I had plenty of beaters but after my limited edition C230 Kompressor, there was no going back to a DULL ride. Opinion of course.
@@ReverendWilliamHenry - true, I have battery tenders (2x), one for the hood and one for the trunk of which both batteries are still factory OEM. I start the car every 3 days to let it warm up and use the "raise-up" switch (2 modes) and then lower it so the hydraulic fluid cycles through the ABC system; I do this numerous times.
One more thing; whenever you clay bar, surface prep, or polish your car by hand, you should move in one back and forth direction, parallel to the length of the car (front to back) or in smaller areas where that's not practical or easy - like the back of the trunk - a side to side direction , but in one direction only. Moving front to back, and side to side on the same surface with anything that has polishing or abrasive properties can easily lead to swirls. Even clay bar that has no abrasive properties by itself can swirl the paint to a smaller degree if the clay isn't refolded enough and has particles trapped that are in contact with the paint surface. The only time it doesn't matter in the direction, is if you are waxing with a wax only (no cleaner wax), or a random orbital polisher. I don't even wash my car in a circular/multi-directional motion.
@Steve J- You bring up a point. I have seen more than one video say to do a grid pattern. Side to side one direction, then the perpendicular direction. This seems almost as bad as doing circular motion. I think I will take your advice and stick to one direction.
The w203 benz c class along with the Lexus is250 / is350 2nd generation years 06-12 are one of the best car aesthetic body styles ever manufactured. I give a slight edge to the lexus though.
I see a BIG difference in the overall shade of silver on that back quarter panel used in the example. Was the entire car completed for this video or just that panel? Or was that specific panel replaced at some point during the car's history which might explain the apparent paint shade difference? Quite an obvious improvement though! Great video, will have to give this a try.
The mit is mad by Griots (gree oh) the Griot family makes fantastic car care products and the BMW store I work at (about 2 miles away) uses all of their products on our vehicles, prep for delivery, for customer detail, and for recon for our used cars.
You've left polish residue in your tip 😜. I used gtechniq on a silver car and your right silver is very good at hiding marks and it was quite difficult to see all the marks. I used half a bottle (30ml) on a large estate and three years later it was like I applied it yesterday. I also find if you use a light clay bar every six months also will help remove any small contamination build up and will revive your beading properties :). Keep up the good work and thanks for showing this as every day is a school day :)
anyone that says 3k for a 15k car is too much tell them to GTFO. I just had my Accord done by one of the best shops around DC and I am glad i did. the car looks fantastic!
Spray water inside an old bucket , clean the polishing pads inside the bucket with the pressured air and it will catch the residue instead of blowing it into the air and potentially landing back on the car
I think we have the same cheap lav mic from Amazon! Just tried it out for the first time on my most recently uploaded video. It was literally $30 compared to $800 for the Sennheiser mic.
Even a phone with a decent mic capsule plugged into it would do a better job. He always cranks his audio far too damn high and can't seem to be arsed to fix it even though it would literally take seconds and many people have commented on it already. JUST DROP THE OVERALL AUDIO LEVELS IN YOUR DAMN EDITING PROGRAM.
Great video man.... didn’t read through all the comments so someone may have already said this. I’m work road construction “Chicago” and get tar on my car all the time and it’s white. I use WD-40 and it comes off like water.
Awesomely detailed videos (voltage regulator replacement, faulty part replacement...). I have been restoring my 2012 S550 (loose leather, Airmatic struts, brakes and rotors, AGM battery, extended sound enhancements). I ordered my voltage regulator and am waiting for that delivery. That is the last thing I will do then the paint correction! Would love to get see my Beast on your channel!
Disagree abotu being "worth it." I had a $1200 decontamination, paint correction, and 9+-year 10H Ceramic coating done on my 2015 Kia Sorento SX Limited, in IM Titanium Silver Metallic. The difference is amazing, and the protection is well worth the cost.
I'm not sure but did you use compound as your polish? You mentioned Compound but continued to say you polished the car. Compound and polish do 2 different jobs, compound having course abrasives, while polish has little to none depending on what you buy. You should most definitely say this when showing anyone what you're doing, and the steps involved.
I’m about to do this on my car in the next few days and have two questions. Did you dry the car off after the initial wash and before applying the iron x? Also, did you have any concerns about dust getting on the car after leaving it in the garage overnight after you washed and decontaminated it before polishing the next day? I have a relatively clean garage but I can notice a small layer of dust on my car in the mornings when I leave for work after washing the previous day. Thanks again for the great videos and keep up the good work!
Yes I dried it after I rinsed off the iron remover. I also wiped it down with 25% alchohol solution after the clay Mitt. I did that again the next day before ceramic after the polishing. If you let the car sit over night after polishing I'd wip it down again before ceramic coating. You want it to be perfectly clean with no dust
I'm wondering how many hologram and marring it got from single step of paint correction using only wool pad. Silver paint will hide it, but sometime the sun will reveal it depend on the degree of severity. Be careful with paint correction on darker colour. For non-professional detailer or common people its probably good enough tho.
I was hoping to detail my car when summer ended. Wasn’t counting on the weather going straight to winter. I think I’ll work on the chips and scratches. That silver looks fantastic, hope to get my silver to pop like that.
Nice work! Out of curiosity; is the left rear wing been repainted? The shading between the rear wing and rear door seems different and also looking along the side of the car the gap seems uneven.....
I'm not sure but I wouldn't doubt some paint work has been done at some point. It's a clean title, no accident carfax car but you never know. The lighting in the room can make panels on this car look different but I see what you mean. If it was painted they did a pretty good job as far as not leaving sanding marks and things like that
If I had a car that looked like that and was of that value? I’d probably do the paint correction to make it look, not just good, but great. Both cars looked fantastic. You did an awesome job on them. It makes me want to go tackle my F250!!!
I have always washed after using the clay bar, but great video, thanks. Also I was tought to move the polishing pad about 1 inch per second to minimise swirls and marks, as well as evening out the polishing over all the panels
For the wheels, use some body Wax to coat the wheels, apply it smoothly, and let it dry for about 5 to 9 minutes per wheel, and BAM! It gonna last about 5 to 9 months if you take care of the wax nicely
Say what?? Think about this. If someone said they built their house for 300,000 would you expect it to include all the machinery and tools to build the house? So the $200,000 concrete truck and machine, the Bobcats, excavators, forklifts, multiple pickups, dump trucks, every hammer, nail gun, ladder, etc. You get the point. My title is exactly what I said in the video, $100 in materials. I also needed a heated garage for the job so should I have include the cost of the building and heat?
LegitStreetCars if someone built their house on their own, then ya... you would include all of the things they needed to buy in order to make it happen... And the title doesn’t say “in materials” by the way.
Bro it's worth it when it's a car like that. I don't care if I have a $260,000 S65 AMG that's only worth $20k now. It's still an S65 so a $3000 detail is definitely worth it....I think it's definitely worth in any car like that...
Great video- I have a c230 sport manual 6 speed and it will not always stay in reverse. Have you seen this before no one seems to know They just say replace it. It goes in all other gears just fin thanks
you're the best alex. i washed and clay bar my car and remove tar and detail all inside the wheels and the next day it rained. I'm so angry. there was no rain on the radar at all. it just came out of nowhere.
You shouldn’t use that Karcher high power attachment. It can strip the paint if you get it too close. I warned a neighbour in the past. He didn’t listen and needed a respray.
Really nice work, and informative video. I'm in your neighborhood, and I daily drive my best cars all year, so keeping them nice in this ridiculous environment is a challenge (they put Car Dissolver on the roads here ... ). I do not drive the vintage cars in the winter; they are garage queens from Thanksgiving through April Fools. Thanks -- keep up the great work.
Looks great, I was noticing the quarters on the c55 look a lighter shade, the rear may have been repainted at some point, btw, I say this because I worked in a body shop for many years, so I’m that type of guy. But it looks great!
Looks great, Alex! I don't have a heated garage. Plus, our white '13 W204 has some tiny dings in the front bumper. I tried to fix it all myself using SEM products, including a chip protector finish on the part at the very bottom of the bumper, but I really don't like the results. So, in the Spring, the bumper comes off and it goes to a shop for a rework and respray. Sigh. Until then, I'll continue to work on the stubborn tar on the aero body work (it's a Sport model) and hand wax it and polish before Winter. So, all paint correction work and ceramic work will have to wait. That is, unless a local detailer can do it without breaking the bank.
Well, I stopped by the body shop and they will do the front bumper and make it as new for around $400. He advised me to use a clay bar after using a degreaser on the entire car, to get the bad stuff, then use a quality wax followed by polish. He recommends Meguiar's, which I already use. I picked up a Meguiar's Clay Kit. So, before Winter, I'll get the car protected and never again use a car wash and be very careful how far to pull up in a parking spot with a curb. I may not do the ceramic detailing this year, but may try it next year.
quick question, you showed a SUV that was not done then "Restored" very nicely by the shop. However you are showing the same SUV in the video with the same rust marks 12:31 or was it just a similar painted vehicle?
Fantastic job... Comparing the $100 do it yourself job vs. the $3000 professional job, I don't even think there's that big of a difference to be honest... Would you say that the ceramic coating is easy to apply? Heard some people say it's hard to do, but looks easy here
There is a big difference but it's hard to tell with a silver car. I talk about this at the end but basically there are many levels to this kind of work. But you can definitely make a car look really good for not a lot of money if you do your research and put in the work.
Big difference! #1 is knowledge! Silver is 100x easier to paint correct than black, and with coating it depends on the brand you use. Professional ones are usually more durable and have a warranty. Coating a black car is also harder to do since you see every little high spot. With silver you cant really tell
The guys are right. There's definitely a difference, but for the average person, this $100 DIY Kit will do an amazing job, while I spend the other $2,900 on a vacation to the Bahamas. =)
So, let’s say a few weeks after you have applied the coating and driven around for a while. You wash the car. Do you apply a standard wax after washing or is the coating enough?

Chthonian121 No its the camera
Jordy Westerhof I thought the same thing, maybe it was just the angle or a reflection in the garage, but then I saw 16:48 and yeah, it’s definitely been repainted before
Who else does this at home?
Me on my 2003 ML350. Silver as could be ;D
Plus, having worked in a body shop years ago, I've seen just how horrible 'buffing' results in a production setting can be!
i do on my 05 w211 e500 estate.
On their website, Griot's has a pronunciation quiz. It is pronounced "Gree-oh".
I've had cheap beaters and love them. Im going to daily this for a short time for fun
@@LegitStreetCars I agree with this way of life. Take care of your cars, but also drive and enjoy. Life is short!
Its called FAHRzeug not STEHzeug
Tar removal 1 gallon white vinegar 50/50 mix distilled water
Can we find those e55 pictures somewhere. Because i think i found a new background for my laptop
Look up chicago auto pros. They are on their FB and website
I love these W203 C Classes... my favorite Mercedes and favorite body stile. I have a black 2007 C230 sport . Nice car man. Looks beautiful
The w203 benz c class along with the Lexus is250 / is350 2nd generation years 06-12 are one of the best car aesthetic body styles ever manufactured. I give a slight edge to the lexus though.
Um......."style"
I see a BIG difference in the overall shade of silver on that back quarter panel used in the example. Was the entire car completed for this video or just that panel? Or was that specific panel replaced at some point during the car's history which might explain the apparent paint shade difference? Quite an obvious improvement though! Great video, will have to give this a try.
The mit is mad by Griots (gree oh) the Griot family makes fantastic car care products and the BMW store I work at (about 2 miles away) uses all of their products on our vehicles, prep for delivery, for customer detail, and for recon for our used cars.
Good to know! Was just wondering whether to get the Best of Show wax or spray wax. Can't wait to try

It's hard work. I just did a paint correction on my g8 including buffing the glass, and I am beat. It looks amazing though.
I tried to do what you did and it cost me like $500
What kind of buffer did you buy? Is that why it costed so much more?
Bird shit is the bane of my existence
anyone that says 3k for a 15k car is too much tell them to GTFO. I just had my Accord done by one of the best shops around DC and I am glad i did. the car looks fantastic!
Spray water inside an old bucket , clean the polishing pads inside the bucket with the pressured air and it will catch the residue instead of blowing it into the air and potentially landing back on the car
Maybe consider getting a proper microphone.
Otherwise very cool and love the video.
Good material though!
@@TheCrazySquirell It's the gain on the input device. he needs to drop the gain on the mic and boost the levels in his editing software later.
@@DV7Dave Either way would work for volume levels, I'm not even talking about fixing the clipping any more.
Keep going man. You and your channel are awesome. Sorry for not being active the last few weeks was busy with school
No worries!! Welcome back!!
Alex
GREE-ohs Garage. Started by Richard Griot in my home town, Tacoma, WA. Beautiful showroom in Tacoma where there are great car shows nearly year round!
"DON'T TOUCH THE TRIM!!!" Early kiler - Squidbillies
Disagree abotu being "worth it." I had a $1200 decontamination, paint correction, and 9+-year 10H Ceramic coating done on my 2015 Kia Sorento SX Limited, in IM Titanium Silver Metallic. The difference is amazing, and the protection is well worth the cost.
I really wish Mercedes would bring back the old body styles on the C class and the S class I love the body's from 2000-2006
Love this, exactly what I was looking for since you posted the more expensive pro paint correction. Great work as usual
I love your E55 and with paint correction made that car even better I wish had that car
It makes a car look new
Great video maybe I should try this for my old Camry
The way you speak reminds me CrisFix

Kinda seems like he's doing it on purpose. Tbh. Got the same vibe
I just had to do a 3-step on my black car for this reason. A pain to get the holograms off the surface! This must have a ton of those in the sunlight
@@gszah yup, most likely it will has a lot of holograms, but probably some will not appear to our eyes due to fact its a silver car.
Beautiful car. I had an 06 C55 AMG and it was a beast. I love my S4 more though.
I have always washed after using the clay bar, but great video, thanks. Also I was tought to move the polishing pad about 1 inch per second to minimise swirls and marks, as well as evening out the polishing over all the panels
I enjoyed the video. Step by step instructions and materials. Great job. Thank you.
For the wheels, use some body Wax to coat the wheels, apply it smoothly, and let it dry for about 5 to 9 minutes per wheel, and BAM! It gonna last about 5 to 9 months if you take care of the wax nicely
HEY ALEX! STOP YELLING PLEASE, YOUR INTRO WAS LOOOUD 😎
great video my new school teacher, keep them up love the t.a.updates
Some don't get the video it's a $100 on materials not including tools. When you go to a shop they don't charge you for their tools .
Thanks James. I've had to clarify this a few times in the comments.
You can spend 100$ or 9000 bocks for a detail...
LegitStreetCars you should probably change the title then. The title is total click bait
Okay, now what about those of us without the heated garage.
Tip on getting tar off easy just use diesel it dissolves quickly and cleans up with soapy water.
5:35 it is pronounced gree-oats. How much would you charge to do a dark grey 2012 Honda Crosstour??
$250..bring it to TX 😎
C55 looks great 👍🏼
Black paint. How well will this hold up through the car wash every week?
Bro it's worth it when it's a car like that. I don't care if I have a $260,000 S65 AMG that's only worth $20k now. It's still an S65 so a $3000 detail is definitely worth it....I think it's definitely worth in any car like that...
Ceramic coating is a jip, I just hand polish with autoglym resin and its hella alot better :)
Great video- I have a c230 sport manual 6 speed and it will not always stay in reverse. Have you seen this before no one seems to know They just say replace it. It goes in all other gears just fin thanks
Great videos lately! I always use griot's car wash as clay lubricant. Do you think the clay lube is better than soap wash?
Not sure but some commented in the last video not to use car soap with it. It worked well with soap on the E55 though
I love most chemical guys stuff, however, decon isn't even close to iron X. Iron X gel is amazingly good stuff.
You probably added $4,000 in value to the car. Pretty good wages for 6 hours.
Incredible, you should buy and flip these Alex.
Nope...
Jackson Whitlow jup^^
Jackson Whitlow nope to +4k value
Joe Wilder 4K more value is not reasonable. More like 1000, maybe 1500 if you’re a smooth talker selling it.
Hey Alex, I’m just about to purchase ceramic coating.. how about a review of this car after 2 years now ?
Job turned out well. I have had good success with 3M adhesive remover on tar
you're the best alex. i washed and clay bar my car and remove tar and detail all inside the wheels and the next day it rained. I'm so angry. there was no rain on the radar at all. it just came out of nowhere.
Why don't you put short mudflaps on?
It'll reduce tar on the body.
It's spring here, I am going to do this next Saturday. You are da best!!
You shouldn’t use that Karcher high power attachment. It can strip the paint if you get it too close.
I warned a neighbour in the past. He didn’t listen and needed a respray.
this is where it's at baby!
I have a DA polisher, what are the practical difference? It cuts less than a random orbital polisher ?
Really nice work, and informative video. I'm in your neighborhood, and I daily drive my best cars all year, so keeping them nice in this ridiculous environment is a challenge (they put Car Dissolver on the roads here ... ). I do not drive the vintage cars in the winter; they are garage queens from Thanksgiving through April Fools. Thanks -- keep up the great work.
Car looks amazing I was watching you put the ceramic coating on and was like put the cap back on the bottle!
Can you do a video on replacing the oil air separator on a 2002 e320? Thanks
Sweet...more C55 videos
this guy learned how to detail from wikipedia in 20 min and shared it in a video lmao
my exact thoughts... stick to twitch gaming🤣🤣🤣
quick question, you showed a SUV that was not done then "Restored" very nicely by the shop.
I can guarantee you that that $100 job doesn’t look anything like a $3000 job done by a professional.
James Watson nope maintain with a si02 spray
Hello, What about the door, hood and trunk jams? Do they also get treated with ceramic coating? Thanks!
