Hi everyone! I think when I make this soap again (high shea butter is my dry skin's favorite), I may try using 90% shea butter and 10% coconut oil (since the coconut oil was the only real lather producer I added). I included the olive oil just to have a liquid oil in the mix, and the cocoa butter was added for hardness (and because I really like it in soap). I was asked by a couple of people if the shea butter scent lingered in the soap. I mentioned this in the video, but, even after 9 weeks, I can still smell the shea butter. If you were going to add a fragrance, it might interfere with the scent somewhat. I did use unrefined shea butter, though. Oh, one more thing, I don't detect any cocoa butter scent after the cure, in case you're wondering about that. Hope you're all doing well! -Holly :)
You CAN buy indécentes shea butter, but by then I'd think most of thé bénéficia péripéties would have been steppes out as Well.. i'd either work soubrette naturel scent. Its NOT THAT bad!

I have been using shea butter in my soaps since 2001. I currently make a palm free recipe with shea butter and I love it. It has such a wonderful, creamy lather. I am not missing the palm at all.
Do you use full shea butter to replace the palm oil? I am new to soap making and would like to avoid lard and palm and was hoping I could use that as a replacement but many places say max 15% shea butter and most of the palm recipes I see are 20-25% palm. I was thinking of doing a 15% shae/5-10% cocoa for replacement in these recipes.

I made this! It was so much fun! I think I messed up by letting it go too far past trace when mixing, but it's still useable and so luxurious on my skin! My man LOVES this soap!! THANK YOU!!!!
I've read all over the internet not to use more than 15-20% butters in CP soap because of cracking, but you've proved this totally wrong. I've used butters up to 30% with no cracking but have dialed it back to 20-25%. I don't use palm oil, lard, or any animal products so to increase hardness and longevity I use more butters. Kokum butter is very nice and I use it instead of cocoa butter because it won't clog pores. Thank you for a great video. And I agree with another user that your video is extremely relaxing to watch.

I love this recipe! I was glad to see a video where I could tell what was happening with the trace as that is so hard to get on camera. Would love to try this recipe, but didn't see the amount of lye and water. So I'm taking that as we should just enter this into the lye calc ourselves?
I just used this soap this morning after a two week cure...it is the most wonderful bar of soap ive ever used. i never thought anything could top tallow in soap and this shea butter bar is absolutely wonderful. Nice thick, dense suds and it felt amazing using. I need to make more!!!
What does soap making do to the quality of butters. Does it make sense to add unrefined butters instead of refined butters, or butters other than your Shea Butter base?, i.e. Cupuacu, kokum or other oils. Does the lye process cancel out all of the qualities of butters and oils?

Im confused, when I started soap I found several lists that gave the maximum % oils should be in a recipe. Shea butter and coconut were only 25%, castor oil 10% the only one that was particularly high was olive oil or animal.

Hey holly can u help me at one point i want to making 200 soap or 100 soap in a day so iwill use a big bowl bedore im cutting the soaps,but when im using big bowl and my 1 soups gram is 130 gr so that meana am i should ( if a big bowl contain 20 soap quantity) than im i should making my recipe 130 gr × 20? Or am i should making different and how can i understand when my soap is 130 gr is it big for 3×6 size? Plus/ if im choose 4 carrier 1 essential oil is there any problem?
And are we cutting aoaps after 6 weeks or cutting soaps and waiting six weeks for done soaps and when we are waiting 6 weeks are we should close the aoap bars above or not
33% lye concentration means your lye solution consists of 33% sodium hydroxide and 67% water. Enter the oil amount into a soap calculator with your lye concentration set to 33% and the calculator will give you the amount of sodium hydroxide you need to saponify the oils. I may have to try this! I have dermatographism and my skin is so cranky, especially during the drier winter months. I will try anything that I think will soothe the beast! Also, I did finally make your goats milk soap recipe. Well, my version of it anyway. I put it in the freezer and it still partially gelled. I was not happy! I don’t like that spot in the center of my soap.☹️ So, lesson learned. Gel it!

I have had little success with my soap because I get a different result making any soap I try of my own recipe. Thanks for your time.
Thank you & thanks for watching my videos! My soaping temperatures vary with my recipe and sometimes it's just where the temperatures end up after I've let everything sit for awhile. If I'm making a plain soap with lots of hard oils (like this one), I generally soap around 95ºF so I don't get a false trace where the oils start to re-solidify before I've even reached emulsification. If I'm making a complicated swirl and need lots of time to work, I generally use a recipe with more liquid oils and will soap around 80ºF or even room temperature...lower temperatures will (usually) give me more time to work. Hope this helps!

I just did this soap - but bumped the Shea to 65% instead of 60%. I also added lavender EO. It’s in my oven now, can’t wait to unmold tomorrow 😊

The lye concentration is 33% means we use 330g of sodium hydroxide ? Please advise thanks.

I'm sorry you got a partial gel, but that's so good to know! I've been wondering if I should try the freezer, so I'll give that idea up. 😂
