Wow this young lady is very wise, level headed and humble. She could really challenge Serena and even win the tournament. It's going to be an exciting match.

I've now watched her last 3 pressers. She's funny and insightful. She tries to answer the questions in a deadpan way, then her sense of humour breaks through. If carries on progressing at this rate, she will soon one biggest and most interesting personalities in the women's tennis.

She is already one of the most interesting imo.Hopefully she wins a few grand slams so she also becomes great.

actually, the wta has already produced a "best of..." video compilation of naomi's interviews. her response at 7:07 will probably be on the next video compilation.

Being soft spoken doesn't make you naive, it just means you're calm and quiet. Really impressed with her tennis play and even more so with her demeanor. Even just that response of "who would dream to lose?" shows she has a sharp mind. I hope this is just the first of even more grand slams.

How can people play the actual government game and blame the media for adressing her by the nationality she entered the us open with. She is clearly dark skin, who can hide that lolllll. Everybody sees it but it would be rude to always remind her of her race all the time. What is wrong with people? Her dad is Haitian but she did not grow up of the culture and do not have the nationality. Yet she knows her roots . Good for her!

She is poised, respectful, she seems to be very kind. she's also diplomatic in her answers. It is obvious the reporters continuously ignore it when she mentions her heritage. I was watching one of her press conferences. One could clearly hear a reporter saying "you are Japanese..." (after they mentioned the Haitian flag and she also acknowledged her grandma's presence.) Anyway, I am a fan of Serena. But I am very happy for Naomi. There's nothing wrong to like both of them. I wish Naomi continued success. Go Haiti! Go Japan!

    Shame not watch it.
Amazing is she faced 13 times break point (/3, 4 her service games), all of which were saved!! Not a single break!! It didn't come without cost. She had to serve 87 times (v. 47)!! Hard working!
So far, great success & the best performance over past some tournaments. A stark fact is the final with very different atmosphere may create a different kind of difficulty. Hope she'd leave the court with a nice feeling regardless of the outcome!

Ramon Galvez actually Serena only has 23 GS’s. If she wins this one she will have 24. However I do understand what you mean. Serena has already accomplished so very much. Her dominance in this sport has indeed earned her record breaking and record making significance. If she never wins again she will have already the infamy of being an all time great. And on the other hand, rooting for Osaka is rooting for a future of great tennis and a future star sharing a similar narrative of ground breaking and history making significance. In a way, for me it’s a win win. No matter who wins, for me they both are terrific and genuinely deserving players. This will be an event!

Naomi is japanese, not the way she speaks, but the way she behaves. Serena is american, not the way she speaks, but the way she claims.

She's spent much of her life in the States, so the language she can do the most with is probably English. I speak 2 languages as a native speaker and English is my third. But I'd rather answer precise--linguistically sensitive questions--in English. I think, though, that there are youtube videos of her speaking Japanese, if you want to take a gander at those.

Mari Osaka is a much shorter, compact player....She wasn’t blessed with some of the physical gifts of Naomi;however, she just had some good wins on the itf circuit, would be lovely if she could lift her level so the Osaka sisters can carry the sisterly torch when the Williams sisters retire
