    It's interesting how she seems so shy/timid in interviews but on the court she's so intense and aggressive.

      what one needs to take away from the experience is her strength - she has been molded in this respect- since inception.

      @loydayo883 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      well, it's a right sort of contrast to have. it would be weird to be so intense in interviews and timid on the court xD

      Well, she's mix raced, combining the tropical temperament from her father's side ancestry with the modesty and discipline of the Japanese culture from her mother side, resulting to this unusual symbiosis

    Naomi is playing extraordinary well but especially mentally. She is so focused on her game and what she has to do with the ball.
    Really hope for her back to back GS title and number #1 in the world.

      with her skills Naomi plays chess on the tenniscourt. You have to train to keep the skills in shape. Matches you win with your mind(set-ting).

    This is not a slight against the older generation ( Sharapova, Williams sisters, etc) because I understand that they are professionals and take their tennis seriously, BUT it's so refreshing to see the younger generation give these relaxed, funny, light hearted interviews, and not bristle at the press or treating them as antagonists. Yes, sometimes the press will ask a stupid question but Osaka never takes it as a personal affront and just comes up with a joking response. I think she has the right attitude to make tennis enjoyable for the fans, on and off the court. Becoming a bigger and bigger fan each time.

    • @loydayo883
      @loydayo883 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      even in other sports, you see this. it's one thing to take the game seriously, but interviews should be a time to be loose or at least, more relaxed :P

      I would have said the same thing but you said it first and better than I ever could.
      For someone that's shy and somewhat introverted, she's absolutely killing it at these press conferences.
      So honest, straightforward, and completely non evasive during her interviews.

    To those who note her "timidness." She reminds me of so many Japanese friends growing up. It's not timid but careful, measured, discreet. My good friend was also a biracial girl named Naomi. Talked the same way.

    Naomi is classy humble but dominant on court. Her fitness and athleticism along with power makes her so dangerous. She can not only outhit but defend so well. Proving you dont need to be arrogant even if u r successful. Naomi has become such a huge star and backed her us open result with another run. She wins it or not but she will be dominant for next decade. N has potential to end up with 10 slams atleast. She has every weapon in the game . Plus that ad was disgusting. They should've used her skin tone bcoz that ad showed her skin colour is more important than her achievements which is wrong. We Asians should be proud of our skin tone :)

    I just hope she sits down with her team and look at the beginning of the 2nd set. She got a little too excited after winning the 1st set at 6-2, and it probably cost her the set. She had a number of chances early - at 1-1, and had she been able to capitalize on them, she could have easily ended the match in 2 sets. It was good to see her 'calm' down, regain her form, and finish the match. It's tough to watch my 2 favorite women's players in a match like this, but I think the better player won. Kvitova is also a very good player, who could match Osaka's ground strokes, but I think Osaka's got the better serve. I picked her to win after her US Open victory last year, so I not going to change now. Osaka in 2 sets - 6-3, 6-4 :)

    IAM SO HAPPY THAT NAOMI WON, but at the same time i have this simple remarks: it will make Naomi’s life on the court easier if she ups her first service percentage. You only get that by extra training on it.
    The second thing is the effect on the ball. Why is Nadal so succesful? The key word is TOPSPIN. Learn from him.
    The third is anticipation. Knowing where you opponent is going to hit the ball. You improve by studying the persons standing position before hitting the ball. Sometimes it is better to just pick a possible corner than stand and watching the ball go bye. Anyway you will force her to pick another corner and make her changes of missing bigger. Wishing you all the success in the world. Don’t get me wrong.

    • @KaptainOW
      @KaptainOW 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kenny Gooswit Everything is good, but as for the topspin thing, women’s tennis is pretty much overpowering, and who can absorb that power and take it off the ball. A lot of topspin is good, but mostly for the men’s side. If Naomi can learn how to hit an insane amount of spin, but continuously hit the balls at the same pace she is now, then she’ll basically be unstoppable.

    • @maggotbrain7499
      @maggotbrain7499 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kenny Gooswit Naomi knows all these things, but still gambles a lot. If she can play intuitive she is able to calculate on intuition the perfect game. She must get back in her own flow where there are no expectations only sure shots.

    • @ccaammiinniiito2
      @ccaammiinniiito2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kenny..."Don't get me wrong." Are you kidding. Yours is an EXCLELLENT review with plenty of suggestions to improve her over all game, advice that should be taught at all tennis academies. But, Kenny, my bias is serve and volley, so my opinions don't count. I'm just not on the ground with baseline tennis. But I'll take what I can get.

    • @Wben113
      @Wben113 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Naomi would be totally unbeatable if she ventured to the net after those amazing deep groundstrokes to the corners. They would be very easy put always. She has a great serve, amazing powerful groundstrokes that most players are just trying to get back, so following them to the net would be amazing. The players that don't hit as hard as she does would get passed a lot. I don't see that happening to her. And she is a beautiful girl inside and out. How can anyone not rout for her. Her acknowledgment of her opponants good shots, the way she gently tosses the balls to the ball kids. A lot of that comes from her upbringing and maybe to some extent her Japanese background. Love her head bowing too. Great girl.

    Win or lose, Osaka becomes quite a presence in tennis after AZ and USO. Perhaps the only suggestion I would have for the rising star if I were her coach is to wide her arsenal of weapons: drop shot, coming more to the net, volley, cross court rallies, all of which when possible. Don't rely heavily on baselining. And, for heaven's sake, make short work of a game whenever possible. If you see, for example, opportunities to come to the net, do so.

      America is a extremely unique place when it comes to racial dynamics. It's come a LONG way from how it used to be but their are lasting issues mostly due to representation. Being that she was raised in America means she probably sees those issues even if they are alien to native Japanese people..

      They made her and Kei the same color which is not an accurate representation of her. I mean it is Her face and her face is brown. Light brown but still brown.

      Illya Kuryakin No they haven’t. Wanting a mixed girl with brown skin to be portrayed as such is reasonable.

    Remaining players in the AO: Osaka 5'11", Kvitova 6'0", Nadal 6'1", Pouille 6'1", Djokovic 6'2". The remaining women players are virtually the same height nowadays as the remaining men

      it's just an artist's style. they could've darkened her skin tone a bit to match because you see that in anime, but the features are just result of the mangaka's style

      She once said that she understands very well and is able to speak in Japanese, but not very fluently, so she'd rather answering them in English.

      Boris Bornakiss, well some foreign people who studied Japanese for six months to a year can speak better than she does. It’s typical for the 2nd generation people.

    Congrats to the new champ!
    Finally, a return to great women tennis -- from two highly worthy finalists -- as women tennis traditionally has been, i.e., an elegant sport replete with feminine grace, style and beauty save an intervening period of conduct monstrosity and demeaning grotesquerie prevailed upon by a party of one literally abasing herself and the sport for 2 decades:-( So it is that her imminent retirement to full-time motherhood cannot come a moment too soon.
    Amen, out with the old and boorish, in with the new crop of young and fresh champions.

      It was impressive that Naomi knew that the ad was based off of the Price of Tennis manga. And like the reporter mentioned, it's a cultural misunderstanding because manga always portrays prettty much everyone as white. I'm sure there was no ill intent at all.

    A dip will arrive at some point - and probably soon - but she can dominate the sport. Plus she's likeable as hell. We need more Osakas and less Sabalenkas.
