This is a great video idea. I like seeing what is actually winning games in addition to just theorizing about army lists

I appreciate the summary at the end. A lot of army list videos don’t do that, so I have to just pay close attention for peoples auto includes across the board myself.

Cool thing about the reivers with the Lt, is they can pretty reliably charge from deep strike. drop 9 away, shoot, move d6, charge.

@@Wind-Whistler but its still 20 of them with lethal and precision. i think the idea is to make them an assassination squad to deep strike, get a reliable charge, and kill an inconvenient character despite their bodyguard

Really like this kind of video, the recap slide of the main trends at the end was good! Would be interesting to know the layouts used for the different tournaments, I feel sometimes it helps a lot in understanding the units choices in the list.

    Interesting lists.
I find Infiltrators pretty useful and am actually considering adding a Phobos Librarian to them because then they can sleep-in points where the opponent has to come forward, which is double useful as they tend to stay as far away as possible :')
    Great vid again!

“Death Company are bad now, death company are overcosted” I keep hearing this and apparently they aren’t since they’re winning. My guess is just people complaining to complain but this proves them wrong. My rule of thumb is if tournaments are using a unit it HAS to be good otherwise they wouldn’t take it.

Thanks for another great video, John! I'm still trying to find the right way to put my army together so it's both fun to play with and against and have some of my favourite units in it without being completely ineffective, so it was quite fun to both see some familiar picks and inspiring to see something completely different compared to my current army list

I like that we have 1 tournament detachment. I like being able to make a lore fluff list. If the DC detachment was meta we'd only see black armor blood angel armies. Everything shouldn't be aimed at tournaments. I wish people would understand that and let us have our non meta fluff detachments for friendly games that feel like our non meta fluff lists.

I can see some strong themes and glad to see the double DC bricks! Centurions are fierce, but I’d rather have more of them and advance the first couple of turns than put them in expensive land raiders. No one is running my exact list for Leics, will be fun to see how it fairs.

I got a list for your Sunday Show (even though you probably got a back log a mile long). Idk what the meta change in list design has been, but as a CSM player (Renegade Raiders) as well I would argue that the Predator Destructor is low key the BEST Vehicle unit in the game. And I love that Space Marine players are keeping this Tank Relevant. I hope none of the Rhino chassis go away in the 11th edition. I also can't wait until players start realizing all the "hidden" units within the SM Codex like the Incursors (+1 to hit for everyone else shooting that target) + Storm Speeder Hailstrike (+1 AP for everyone else shooting that target) combo and it's 195pts (effectively it gives the SM player a Renegade Raiders light detachment rule to your army) and in a Ironstorm Spearhead Detachment your Predator Autocannons becoming BS3+(+1 to hit), S9, AP-3 (vs infantry), Damage 3. And you get your one reroll of Hit/Wound/Damage. But either I'm just rambling....

Character "heavy" but 3 of the 5 are effectively are always going to have some sort of lone op. The Tech-Marine in a practice game after having a vehicle destroyed within 12" of him becomes really powerful, almost to the point that I think Rage-Fueled Warrior would see better play with him (he can lead Assault Intercessors (which is he in my list to prove/disprove a theory to practice)

John I would be interested in seeing a breakdown of the dmg output for the LAG Rage Fuelled Warrior Captain with Fist compared to Relic weapon. I think people are just asuming that the fist is better due to S10 but the only time it's going to be relevant on the charge is vs specifically T7-10 and I believe most of the datasheets in the game with that Toughness value will just die regardless to the Captain the turn he goes all out. The extra attack gives you a 33% chance to roll an additional 6 so it would be interesting to see how the math pans out.
Personally I'm running mine with an eviscerator and calling it a relic weapon (shoutout to my boy Seth, may his spirit live on in every 6 rolled with Rage Fuelled Warrior)

Thank you for this review. I am 5 games deep with my Blood Angels to mixed results. My common opponent has been World Eaters. Its been brutal. I can say that Ballistus and Gladiator Lancers make him afraid. (ie he runs Angron a lot) and one game he ran a Lord of Skulls. So my thought is x2 Ballistus, x2 Lancers for Fire Support. I have not had great luck with Astorath or Lemartes and the big brick of DC. Bad dice rolls did me in on both occasions and they just arent hitting hard enough. Although last game Lemartes unit had the Strategem that gives them Lance and on top of the Lethals he grants already. That was pretty nasty. Wiped a unit of Zerkers off an objective and put the fights first Master of Executions on 1 Wound. Still 6+FNP isnt as survivable so I subscribe to your thinking that DC are a little pricey. Im thinking of going back to normal JPI. At least they get the mortals on the charge.

I imagine the Reivers were chosen due to the synergy wit the LT.'s Strategic Dispersal rule. The rules allow for the D6 movement even if the unit has come in from reserves, allowing for better charges. And with the bonuses from the LAG, Reivers aren't that bad in combat.

  • @jfm.d5180
    @jfm.d5180 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Everyone is sleeping on Jump Pack Intercessors. They are, far and away, the best unit in our codex. It's not even close.
For 160 points you get 10 models (16 ppm), T4, 20 wounds, 3+ and you will get cover.
SG, by comparison are 270 points (45 ppm), ALSO T4, 2+/4++ (so yes, a whole lot more survivable), 18 wounds, -1 to hit and wound in melee (assuming they're lead)
Granted, having 3 wounds is **far** superior to having 2 wounds per model as it reduces the efficiency of very prevalent 2 Damage weapons (plasma, power weapons, etc) by about 25%
So why are JPI so much better in my opinion? Mortal wounds. On the charge, JPI deal 13 damage to terminators: 5 mortal wounds (pick up 1 termi, 2 wounds to a second), 6.67 wounds from chainswords. Low estimate is that it picks up 2 more terminators (3 in total, now) and reasonable chainsword picks termi #4, but let's say it's 2/3 wounds. Chainfist on average will do 1-2 usaved wounds. So, low estimate 4 dead terminators, very likely 5.
Sanguinary guard deal 6-7 unsaved wounds on average. Here's the rub: Blades are D2. So 3 dead terminators with very likely 2 wounds on Terminator #4. For a unit that is nearly 3x as expensive per point per model.
So what about intercessors? Sanguinary guard do much better. 27.78 unsaved wounds. 2 damage weapons. They're forcing you to pick up... wait a second.... 13 models. JPI? They charge and hit for 18 unsaved damage on average.... for 9 models. So about 18% of sanguinary guard damage goes wasted. However, JPI are far less likely to kill the Sgt (and any attached heroes). But remember, you also paid 110 MORE points for SG. That's a captain with RFW and points to spare. When you look at the efficiency (in terms of PPW), JPI are over twice as efficient for their points.
Let's talk bigger targets. SG deal 8.89 damage to a Leman Russ, JPI daeal 9.22. SG deal 11.11 damage to a Lancer, JPI deal 11.78. SG deal 6.7 to ANGRON and JPI deal 9.22.
Guys... I really think if you aren't running as many JPI as you possibly can you are missing out. Are SG much more likley to threaten and survive on objectives? Yeah. But JPI with either RFW captains or (if not RFW) CHAPLAINS (+1 to wound on 45xS6 chainsword attacks on the charge) is our hammer unit.

Of course I buy 2 Glads-
Only to have them not be competitive.

Jan's first list is exactly why I can't stand 10th edition right now. 5 Tanks is ridiculous. In 9th edition you were restricted to 3 Tanks no matter which tanks you added because each army had a Force Organization which placed a cap on each Unit Category. You could use a different Force Organization Charat which costs you a -2 CP.
FYI, Joel's list can only have 1 character out of the 2 Bladeguard units. The 2 Captains can't join a BGV unit because a Cpatain must be equipped with a Relic Shield which limits your weapon choice to a Master Crafted Power Weapon.
In LAG, why aren't we seeing more Lieutenant's attached to Assault 10 Assault Intercessors for the falling back and charging to regain the +2 Str and +1 attacks in addition to Lethal hits with the entire unit rerolling wound rolls of 1 or rerolling all wound rolls when attacking a unit on an objective? Whats up with the lack of Sanguinary Blood Priests? He could easily be added alongside the Assault Intercessors and add an additional -1 AP on the unit's chainswords combined with the Lieutenant's Fall-back, shoot and charge to regain the bonus from the Red Thirst with everyone gaining Lethal hits. I almost forgot about the Priest's 5+ FnP for some great durability especially if you decide to use AoC.
You end up with a 12 Model unit of Assault Intercessors wielding their chainswords with 5 attacks each at Str 6, AP -2, Lethal hits and rerolling wound rolls while gaining first strike from the fall back and charge amd the 5+ FnP will help the unit block mortal wounds. The Sergeant can take a Powerfist and Plasma Pistol giving his powerfist 4 attacks with a Str of 10, AP -3, 2 damage and lethal hits.
Finally, the Lieutenant mirrors the Sargeant's weapon loadout except he is hitting with his Power Fist on a 2+...
As a Necron playerI can tell you that an 85 Point Technomancer ho also gives his unit a 5+ FnP is clutch since al it takes is 1 successful 5+ FnP roll to keep a 2 wound interecessor alive with the Wound Characteristic of 2.
I also found it strange with the lack of players skipping on the Outriders considering how much the Red Thirst boosts their Attacks in addition to being able to turbo boost their bikes for an auto advance of 6". If I recall their is a Strat in LAG that can give a unit's the assault ability so they ccab shoot, and I think the detachment has either an enhancement or Strat which can give a unit of outriders advance and charge.
I was also surprised no one took Aggressors with twin linked Power fists and twin linked bolters on their fists along with grenade launchers? or Terminators? Also, no Terminator units being led by a Terminator Chaplain for the +1 to Wound and the 4+ FnP Mortal Wounds?

I play 1000 points so I try to follow most of your guidelines but they’re not quite as simple at 1000 because for example if you take 2 tanks/vehicles you’re going to struggle to stay at the right proportion of melee but I feel most of our jump melee that used to kill tanks is now too expensive at 1000-death company have chaplain tax and aren’t as good, but sang guard are a bit expensive for 6. I also think there’s more of a premium on units that are flexible at 1000. This is why I like terminators and vindicator. So here’s my attempt to square the circle. Ballistus is my home field as it can contribute flexible fire from there but is also resilient and if I need to I can walk it forward and tank shock something. Most of the rest of my army can contest the middle objectives. Sang guard and captain are the mobile reserve. Mephiston is utility but also can contribute damage vs most things, be they armour or MSU, which there are more of at this points level. I may also use him to guard my terminators with his heroic/fight first. I am not sure if I have enough utility units. Main dilemmas: get rid of Mephiston for 3 more sang guard? Could cover my home objective with intercessors to feee ups some points as they’re nice and flexible but they’re just not as scary as the ballistus.

I'm not surprised Mepheston is popular. He's been pulling his weight in every game I've used him in for the most part.

The only thing I’ve noticed with him is since he’s damage D3 in melee he can be kinda swingy. Since he’s fast as hell I find he works well in 2 cases: 1) as a skirmishing unit like jump intercessors, or 2) for soaking up damage

@hussamgunter7381 pretty much this. I use him for both every match. Send him off to a side objective to be annoying and force my opponent to commit to that side of the board or let me score for free.
