- Hello my friends, today we're looking at Jack Harpster's impressive run with Angelic Inheritors at the Las Vegas Open 2025. Not many people would have expected to see Blood Angels reaching the Semi-FInals with a squad of Lascannon Devastators.
In this video, we'll break down all the units and combos that Jack was able to use to take the Angelic Inheritors to a top 3 finish out of over 1000 players as well as dive into the full Blood Angels army list.

Played Angelic inheritors last night, against gladius ultra marines. My bikes and chaplain shot and charged a lancer and picked it up in 1 turn. Astorath and his 5 DC picked up marneus and 3 eradicators. And my sang almost solod robo girly man

I was lucky enough to be at LVO (just as a spectator) and watch Jack play a few games. It was a wild eye opening experience. It was also really cool to meet a lot of the streamers.
Hey great job John. You have addressed a blind spot that I think sometimes existed in the past and leveled up your breakdown. A player like Jack really has more than earned the respect for most of us not to call his choices into real question. If we don't quite get a choice he's made, we'll, none of us just took third at LVO and won it previously with the faction. Cheers.
You were right, I was an idiot - I swapped out appointed hour for Sanguinary Grace and it gave me so many options i wouldnt have otherwise had in my game this week. The only time a reroll charge was needed was when I whiffed a 5" charge and used a CP anyway

Haha! Now I feel smart for building a brand new unit of lascannon Devastators. I think it's a cool detachment. It's power isn't as obvious, but nice to have an alternative to Always Be Charging.
Cool! I have been toying with this list as well. Jack said in his stat check interview that basically everything in the list is set except for the 3man (120 pts) of inceptors and the character choice for the devastators which can also be led by a techmarine or even an apothecary or ancient for as low as 50 pts.
So with these max. 135 pts left over one could either fit in a unit of reivers with a phobos lt. or a stormspeeder hammerstrike or a unit of scouts and an ATV for example for skirmish and scoring purposes.
With the advent of the eldar menace though i feel like (and it hurts me to write this) Desolation Squads are looking more appealing than ever. So one could change up the devastators for a deso squad which basically does the same thing but also rains down some indirect on those puny T3 elfbodies (with sustained and re-rolls potentially) and the rest of the pts could be used for a relic or two (scout 6" and deny OW both seem appealing) or shuffle some pts around here and there and get in one more skirmishing unit.
What's your take on all of this?
I hate playing against Eldar when they’re like covering half the table with the D-cannons, the idea of the desolation to remove those indirectly, actually sounds really nice. What character would you attach to the desolation marines?
@ba_commander If I had the points probably the Libby for 4++ but techmarine or apothecary are also viable for less pts.
@@ba_commander First of all i love Rocket Launchers and the Desolation Marines looks cool ! i would attach a Librarian aswell mainly for the 4++ against Psychic+Invuln. also his shooting is quite nice too.
265 for 5 Desolation Boys and a Librarian is a bit expensive but against Hordes/ T3 or T4 Units they can get some good Number of shots out with blast.
So we have 5 Castellan Launcher with 5x D3 Shots +Blast (Indirect)
1Vengor Launcher with D6 Shots +Blast (Indirect)
4 Super Frag Launcher with D6+1 +Blast (has no indirect but against hordes if you have LoS)
If we add also Oath of moment with the Sustained 1 Stratagem of Angelic Inheritors + Re-roll Hits+Wounds of 1 they can destroy all sorts of small stuff even Indirect.
I will get my hands on them because one of my friends plays Orks(lots of Boys) and the other started with Eldar especially Harlequinns and he will play a lot of Troups T3 with only 1 wound and no Armor safe is perfect for the Desolation Boys.
My favorite part was the discussion of coffee cost. And how like I told everyone this detachment had a lot of potential. It makes all character units have 4 abilities.

Great videoJohn! Talking about bladeguard, I saw someone playing against the new Aeldari codex with 2 3-man squads of bladeguard each with a Judiciar. He didn't put them in an imulsor he just put them on objectives as a deterrent against charges, coupled with the 18 lone op strat they seemed to do quite well.

@ba_commander Yeah, I think it could be interesting to give one of the sqauds the Scout 6 Enhancement as well.
If i remember right when Hazardous was introduced (as Gets Hot!) you’d get an armor save. And it triggered on rolling a 1 to hit.
2:35 I'm pretty sure the lieutenant with Combi weapon picks the objective at the start of the battle and it stays that same objective the entire time, rather than changing each round

Not quite the entire time. Yes, it's indeed one objective, until the end of the battle, but also as long as the Combi Lt is one the battlefield. 😉

Ya I've been trying similar list since the detachment dropped, i run 6 inceptors with plasma, and support them with storm speeeder thunderstrike, which has an ability that gives you +1 to wound against vehicle or monster you shot with it, when you combine that with plasma inceptors, it pretty much annihilates whatever you target. Wounding anything on 4s with twin link
Twin linked damage 3 plasma for sure can be tasty!
Personally love the devestators with the librarian finally getting value in Blood Angels, first born forever. For Sanguinius!!!

You have to factor in the ability of the player but it does seem like a good detachment when you explain it like this!
Saltire in Dundee is going to do their ladder league in March and I was going to do BA but was still in the LAG decision but this is definitely making me want to look at doing A.I now.
Great tactics video as usual! I saw you were changing the devs plus liby for outriders. That seems out of your personal love for bikes jejeje. However what would you recomend to include a unit for a similar role? I thought eradicators plus biologis? Similar cost but dont benefit from rerolls and have a much shorter range.
Seems that unit had a great performance on antitank killing at long range and there are not many replacements (and heck none is buying devastators whose hours are counted).
Eradicators already get a ton of re-rolls right? I don't see why not.
Ballistus Dreads are good and cheap, I like mine.
Can you explain the deep striking inceptors in turn 1 strategy a bit more? - I don't understand how you can do this if you start them on the board, go 2nd, and pick them up... how does that then allow you to 6" deep strike them in turn 1? - surely the standard "no deep strike in turn 1" rule still applies?
You pick them up in your opponents fight phase for 1 cp. then you can bring them in during the next turn.
@@ba_commander but you pick them up and put them into strategic reserves... and you cannot place strategic reserves in turn 1... there must be something I'm missing Sorry. I'll have to go read up the rules some more to find out where the loop hole is :o

Been playing AI lately and pretty happy with it. Trying chaplain + outriders and they're pretty solid. Still need to tune but thats my list

Remember that you can use Instant of Grace to make a non-character unit into a character unit. Potentially, outside the detachment rules, you could also put other stratagems on that unit now. Only works on infantry unit, I bet that's why bikers are not that great an option in this detachment.

Hey Commander, the Jack's list seems really optimized. I'll try it but I'm not a huge fan of the 3 Inceptor (Bolter) squad. Do You have a suggestion as a possible replacement, a Baal Pred maybe ? 5 scoUt and 1 ATV is also the same price.
I do like scouts. Also maybe 3 Bladeguard?
Would love to see a variation of this list but at 1000 points ... @BA Commander ? any thoughts ?

I think he’s good. Sometimes a small point hike can change people’s perception.
I took a pretty fluffy list of just some of my favorite named characters with their respective units using this detachment. I made pretty poor play with my 2 DC dreads and they didn’t do anything the entire game. I lost to an Obeisance necrons by only 5 points. Had I played a little smarter I would’ve trounced my opponent. By the end I had no units left and he had a monolith, void dragon, and doom scythe. I was pleasantly surprised with what I could accomplish

I don't think you can use "in the shadow of great wings" as it's restricted to character units :/ Otherwise that'd be awesome

If you pay the OneCP to make them character unit, you can.

@@ba_commander melee units just hide/stage behind terrain. If you need to throw them out onto an objective and they have to survive there's a use case there sure... but a unit that shoots? What other shooting infantry unit do we have that actually does anything? Aggressors are close range, Centurions don't have leaders, a Desolation squad maybe? Eradicators are close range. Devastators make the most/best out of the strat.
Hellblasters.... With assault 24 inch range + sustained...

It didnt suprise anyone?...its jack... and hes been banging that drum for a month, no one wrote it off, it was quiet clearly good from the first read, the only question was weather it was better than lag. And he didnt win it last year, he won it the year before that. Matt Lorah with necrons one last year.
jack won in 2023, not in 2024....
Another great thing about the two captains is if you need the Lethals and +1 to wound on Dante that round, they can always toss a free grenade with their ability too. Forgot to do that in my match last night and left a Forge fiend at 1 wound after charging so figured I'd share my failure to save y'all from doing the same lol.
