    Sorry for the typos in the video :( I was in a hurry editing the video and didn't notice after exporting but next time I will double check. Let me know what videos you would like to see next on the channel. Thanks and have a great one :)

    Thorough and spot-on tips, techniques, and commentary, Octavian.👍 Points well illustrated in vids and stills. Balanced perspective, too - shows much thought. Other channels mention the technique briefly among others, but fail to go into depth. Text and graphics overlays, effective. Agree, technique can easily be overdone to the point of losing impact - too many YT channels showing slight variations of the same “light-trap” compositions. Some folks take comfort in the approach because people in the shots cannot (generally) be identified. Variations you mentioned sometimes called “working the scene”. Agree, process can seem inefficient (what are we missing elsewhere while hanging around?) - can be overcome by accepting trade-offs. A possible negative of staying in one place too long is attracting unwanted attention to yourself (especially if you stand too long outside a bank😁).
    A good “bookend” follow up to this post would be a vid about “hunting”. BTW, hope that waffle shops are among the fully opened places😁. Cheers!

      @OctavianCarare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot Paul :) Fully agree with you so far. I also noticed when I am standing in place for more than couple minutes people are becoming suspicions. We are constantly moving or staring at our phones, if you are not doing that you are probably 'up to something' :) - and I am not talking about a bank here :)). I will probably do one on hunting aswell soon. I need to do also one on editing. I really need to stop with the waffles, it's easier now because it pretty warm outside :). Thanks again for your feedback !

    Octavian I also use both techniques when shooting street. It’s nice to find a nice background or some nice light and wait for a subject to walk into the frame but I also enjoy walking around and hunting. I am wondering if you ever “shoot from the hip” where you don’t bring the camera to your face. I have found this allows me to get much closer to my subjects and I’m able to capture shots I would not get if I pulled the camera to my eye.

    • @OctavianCarare
      @OctavianCarare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jim ! Thanks for watching. I agree with you regarding shooting from the hip, people will not notice you and basically they will not change their attitude so the scene is 'pure'. I rarely shoot from hip to be honest, but that's a good technique. I will probably do whole video with this technique at one point. Thanks for the feedback !

    Couldn’t agree more Octavian. Pictures that has more depth, people interaction (as like the pictures taken by street photography gurus from 20th century such as Joel Meyerowitz, Fred Herzog, Vivian Maier, etc) somehow entice me more. Trying to put these elements as a photographer forces you to think more creative. Thanks for the content again 👌

    It already seemed to be a lot of work. Now I see that it is a lot of science too 😁. For a beginner probably the best way to go would be a mix between the two techniques(something like hunting for a good place to fish), trying to be more active, and once one gets more experienced, the appropriate time to use each technique will come naturally.
    Great lesson and beautiful shots. Glad to see them again. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

    You're extremely talented. I like all of these shots. Street photography is an area I have aways struggled with, but many of the the techniques and photos you discuss here have given me new ideas. If you ever plan to come to my hometown here in Gent to take photos please feel free to contact me. It would be fun to watch you working and get some valuable tips to improve my photos (if you don't object, of course). I will even buy you a nice lunch. You'll find me on facebook under my name.

    Great informative video Octavian :)
    I was having the exact same issue and dilemma with my photos.
    My photos are mainly taken using the fishing technique and although I am satisfied with them, they're turning out samey and a bit boring.
    Like you said, at the end of the day they are just photos with some good lighting and composition
    Im trying to move on to try different methods now.
    Maybe the next video could be 9 tips on how to do better with the hunting technique? :D

If you are living a in place with new modern stunning architecture your pictures will get more likes on instagram (even if there are just people walking on the frame). • @kne321video

    I was always The Hunter. Now I am fishing a bit more with the camera. Love for architecture makes the fishing relevant. To try have the elements fit in the frame. And pause the walking on sore feets 😁. But when I disconnect the thinking, it is still pure hunting.

      @OctavianCarare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kenneth ! Same here, I start my day being active and hunting but when I get a little bit tired I just go and fish :). I guess it's way easier to fish in places like New York, London, Paris or large cities, the architecture is impressive :)
