    Because they use a metal housing for the juice booster, there needs to be earthing (protective earthing conductor), in case there is a fault in the device and the fuse (RCD) protects you from current flowing from the metal housing through your body. {hope I could explain it easily and correctly}

    I believe even for a Tesladriver the adapter is useful as not all Hotels are equiped with Destinationchargers. I already used the Campingadater and the red Volt 400 adapter at Hotels. This fills up the Tesla and the next day you are full and ready to go and you avoid one additional Superchargerstopp.

    Hello Bjorn. I rescued this old video because I have now a Juice Booster 2 and I suffered the same error the first time I plugged in than you showed us in the first video. And after several trials in different sockets and also with 2 different cars I discovered the fault: The fault was that the connector of the plug adapter to the juice booster was not properly clamped. That means that it is important to align the red dots on both connectors and then push and hear the “click”. This was what happened in my case.
    In any case the Juice Booster is a great product because you can juice up everywhere even in bad installations and you can use as a wallbox or as a portable charger
    Regards

    The Voltec charger J1772 (used by Volt/Ampera) is I think the best as it is both portable / wall mounted and you can also roll the cable on it. So highly versatile. Oh, and BYW, I had the same problems as Bjorn with earthing

    I guess there are different versions of the Tesla UMC, but in Australia mine is capable of 3-phase charging with the Euro adapter and a correct AU 3-phase plug. It can nearly supply the full 16 kW that my onboard charger can draw. It almost becomes a portable HPWC as far as my car is concerned. Are you sure your UMC is only capable of single-phase?
    Edit: I re-watched that section of the video and noticed that your adapter is blue and only has the 3 pins, while my "Euro tail adapter" is red and has 5 pins. Is it not possible to use the red adapter in Norway?

    Hey Björn, like Norway and perhaps Albania, Belgium has the 3-phase 32A on a blue CEE plug too 🙂
    Too bad the 3-phase doesn't actually use 3-phases and you're still limited to 7.4 kW.
    And yes, I would buy it it it actually would give me 11kW (or 22kW) on a 3-phase blue 32A Belgium/Norway network

    Did it rain sometimes ago ? This may explain why it is working now. If the ground is wet, the value of your earth is lower than this summer.
    It depends of your ground. If it is sand or rocks, this might be the explanation. Usually, the earth is better if the soil is made of clay.
    For your own safety, it might be good to add more grounding rods.
    You can have a look here : electrical-engineering-portal.com/improve-earth-electrode-resistance

    Hello Bjorn. I still don't understand what a Juice Booster does so I have a question. I'm thinking of buying a Kona Electric. The Kona has 1 phase type 2 plug. Kan the Juice Booster covert 3 phase 11kw current of a public charge point to 1 phase 11kw type 2 for faster charging?
    Greetings from Holland.

    • @bjornnyland

    Now I'm curious : what is section 13.4 saying about unbalanced loads ? (2:34)

    • @volkerblume238
      @volkerblume238 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm I never heard that it starts to burn by un balancing the network. Agree you should prevent it but it is also a Myth that EV needs that much current that the whole network gets unstable. Even in the house. But you also can install 1 phase 32 A wall outlet and they would un balance the network as well.
      Far more a problem is the contact resistance in wall socket. Especially wall sockets outside might got corroded which increases the contact resistance and produces heat. Second point is the wire resistance if the diameter of the cable in the wall is not sufficient. To check this it is essential and very easy.
      if you connect to an unknown or new wall outlet:
      Generally check the voltage drop when you start to load.
      1. Check the temperature at the wall outlet while connected and the car is loading after 15/30 minutes. The plug gets significantly warm when the wall outlet is corroded. It is noticeable if you touch the connected plug. If the plug gets hot I stop charging at that outlet in general.
      2. Look for the voltage drop when you start to load compared to the voltage after 15/30 minutes. For Europe if you are below 214 Volt Monitor carefully. Below 207 Volt it becomes critical. Make a temperature check at the wall socket if it gets hot.
      Reduce the Current manually that the voltage loss is in the acceptable range.
      If you are unsure start with a low current and increase it step by step by monitoring the voltage drop and temperature.
      I am loading very often at regular standard wall sockets (Schuko) and experienced a lot of them to be good to get the full 16 Amps. Very good are those which being used or dedicated for washing machines and dryers. Bad experience I had with the outside integrated wall sockets.
      Load safely :)

    I don’t think that 4 pins can deliver 3phases. You need 1 pin for every phase, 1 neutral and 1 ground. Maybe it’s a 2 phase plug?

    • @flott1
      @flott1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old comment, but in Norway (the old power network, IT type) and Albaina, you can get three phase power on the 4 pin plug since its 230v between the phases, the transformator does not a neutral so it means one of the 3 phases have to have "two" loads on them, if you have the 3 phase 32A blue plug you can only draw 16 amps from each phase because one of the 3 phases are used of the two other phases | L1L2L3()to L1 again
      so in this example the second phase with have 2x16A drawen from it.
      very stupid design, I'm glad we are going away from the IT design :)

      dunno. it essentially replaces a wallbox and allows you to plug in about anywhere. depending on your environment, that's the more flexible choice (and typically within the range of cost of a wallbox). so, depending on the situation, it's cheaper. and definitely more flexible

    • @JohnDoe-vx3z
      @JohnDoe-vx3z 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @davepermen
      @davepermen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the go-e is much newer afaik, but is another great choice. it would be my Default choice for a Wallbox nowadays, actually. it's tiny, cute, and can be built into any other form or shape if you want to go fancy. i do love the Juice Boosters ruggedness, though. the cables and plugs are great. was my only charger for over a year, very reliable. but yes, the go-e is great, too, and i hope i can try it out at some point

    • @Gionzilla
      @Gionzilla 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are already differences between the two products which in my opinion justify the extra price. For example the material which was used for the outer shell, on one side aluminium on the other side plastic. Then the protection class, on one side IP 67 and on the other side IP 54. One device can be driven over with more than 3 t wheel load, the other device is not. What is surely an advantage of the GO-ECHARGER is the integration into a Smart Home and the possibility to use RFID. That's why I would recommend the JUICE BOOSTER 2 to someone who wants to use it a lot on the road and outdoors, and the GO-ECHARGER to someone who uses it mostly at home in the garage or for companies who want to use the possibilities of RFID.
