- Head cam by Brandon Olander of the Concord Blue Devils snareline at the Colts Training Facility on August 10th, 2018.
Brandon Olander is 4 year member of the Concord Blue Devils. With his rookie year back in 2014, Brandon has grown into a seasoned veteran of the Blue Devils and after taking a year off in 2017, he came back to the Blue Devils as the center snare and drumline captain. Brandon Olander ages out in 2019.

I love headcams like this because I like watching how they play and trying to replicate it to improve my playing.
Sometimes you can see his little chin poke out with his beard. When I realized this, I laughed so hard 🤣

3mm Dik I’m gonna start doing that once I start an actual band. Especially if I play bass for said band, but I play a lot of instruments and I’m still learning more so I’m not sure what role I’d fill.

That was fucking insane ever since I saw that drumline movie when I was a kid I always wished I could be snare drummer. But I ended up going with a full drum kit instead.

Julian Means i wish our drumline could play that but literally none of the snares can play for shit so that sections out of the question-even our head snare can’t play the stuff I can play. I could probably play it for a solo during a show tho 😂

ive noticed brandon's middle finger coming off A LOT and im wondering if its just an accepeted line wide thing right now at BD? I think ive seen it some in some previous years back when Matt Keown was marching.
Its very common thing at faster tempos and doesn’t break the fulcrum. Also, it’s widely known for the most part that the middle floats most of the time
Rees Kennedy Mine floats just above the stick but doesn’t stick out as much as olander’s
As long as youre able to control the stick at such a quick tempo, lifting the middle finger off is not a big issue. A lot of people do this as it makes the stick easier to control at fast speeds
Can someone tell me if they wear earplugs when they play ? It seems like the horns would be pretty deafening
Tony Ruyack don't know about practice runs, but probably not during shows.
generally when you're outside, there is no need for earplugs. The horns are not as loud as you think, especially since the drummers are behind them most of the time.
EVERYTHING will make you go deaf indoors though

Did Brandon march in 2017? I hope he will be a future spokesman for DCI. Watching him over the years has been a blast. He is an amazing young man.

Ronnie Mock He wanted to save up money for college so he took a season off. Very common for people who have been marching a couple years. The bumblebee soloist in 17 took this year off.
