You're a huge inspiration to me. Currently in a state winning 5a drumline and I am very honored to be in such a position. Hoping to make bass drum my sophmore year. Love from Texas!
The entire Charles de Gaulle moment starting with the crescendo/decrescendo roll is probably the hardest thing anyone has been asked to play. There’s way more going on than meets the eye. Every performer just has to know the space, touch, and pressures at less than the drop of the hat. The environmental demands… you can’t even listen for time. It’s blend only. Well done y’all.
I absolutely adore your snare play, such an inspiration. I play tenors but i hope one day i can be a great leader like you. Love from san bernardino, you guys were so clean in such an early part of the season. Congrats on the win!
Laurent’s hands are EXACTLY the way my instructor taught me to play snare in high school including the trad left grip! Hats off Laurent! Ps. We won everywhere we went so don’t get to caught up in the noise! By the way my instructor’s name? Steve Campbell center snare for the Blue Devils 86 and marched 84-86 with BD and 83 with 27th Lancers!
I gotta question. So I’ve seen a few really good snare players including Laurent and Brandon Olander let their middle finger on their left hand kinda come off the stick a lil bit. Is that like just something some ppl do? I’m trying to eventually make it into bd or bloo in a couple of years so I’m trying to get my technique as close to perfect as I can rn. Any advice would be great, thanks.
I have basically the same question. I've been looking at a lot of other snare lines and this seems to be inconsistent. Boston for example, keeps their middle fingers on the stick but straight out and takes it off for diddles 3s 4s stuff like that. I've noticed you do something a little different though and so does the rest of BD. You're middle finger seems to stay mostly bent and off the stick. Is one way better or does it just depend on the line? Please let me know if I've been obsessing over this for no reason or if its something I need to consider. Thanks!
I’ve been told by some people who march drum core that it’s mostly when you play fast, it’s more comfortable to take it off. But in general, it’s whatever your instructor wants to see, most think it looks cleaner to leave it on the stick, but really just preference. It doesn’t change your performance, it’s there for more stability if you need it.
Hey Laurent I’m Alfred Segovia‘s nephew the one who you sent the thing so I had to create a new Gmail account but anyway I’m happy to say that I’m going to broken arrow this year on July 16 for the 2024 season. I got shirts and tickets and everything only bad part is my Tio told me that you’re not gonna be able to make it this time. I’m sorry I can’t see you.
I can tell you had a really good private lessons instructor around 2018-2019
