It would be Yoshi's House + Yoshi's Island 1 + the 4 Switch Palaces + Top Secret Area if you count dead ends, Star World 5 + all of Special World if you count map loops. Remember that the Star Road only leads to Front Door, Special World, and back to itself. Also, you can finish SMW both by the Front Door and the Back Door. There is also some loops in the Forest of Illusion that might be trouble.

6:05 Your way of splitting only works if you want to split by level, but if you talk about players, then it's not the case :
Instead of splitting 18.75% in three, it should be split in two in the level 3-ghost-house, so 9.37500 for the secret and 9.37500 for the normal end, then split in to in the normal end so 4.6875 for 3-3 and 3-4 for 4.6875.
Edit : there may be other cases like this.

@@dragonballhaven1417 it's... Insanely long actually. I'll give you the short version. (which is still long AF)
There was a time where I reached my lowest point in terms of mental health, and I had discord installed because I used to talk to a guy that turned out to be a weirdo and had to leave behind. One day I saw a community post here on TH-cam from Memetastic, advertising his discord server, Memecord, and I joined it because I literally had nothing better to do and my life was empty as fuck. There I actually met my first girlfriend, by trying to sing the lyrics from Revenge (Creeper? Aww man...) together. One day, I was fucking around in the general chat and said "person below is gay" and got banned because of it. The thing is, that shouldn't be bannable, I should have been timed out. So Sayori James (The guy you just saw I was talking to up above) was a mod on Memecord and accidentally banned me (don't ask me how, ask him), so we started talking, he got me unbanned and eventually we became friends, by me joining his personal discord server, Clowncord. Not very long ago I left that server because I managed to pull my life together and found different entertainment elsewhere, especially here on TH-cam, but I still do remember James (which isn't his real name btw) and his iconic Profile Picture, and I'm sure he still remembers me for that same reason.

I figured it would be a level in world 3 or 4 simply because there are so many opportunities to skip to the mid-game in the early worlds.
Word 5 is weird because it's the only world with more than a single secret exit, and the only one with a secret exit that only lets you skip part of the world you're in, (makes me wonder why they even bothered) but it's edged out because world 5 merges back everyone who took the secret exits in world 1 and 2, as well as those who took the regular exits in world 3 and 4, so even though it splits it's people in 3 and more different directions, there are too many players that enter the level to make a difference.
World 6 is out from the beginning because though it splits it's players in many different directions it get every single player that DIDN'T take the ghost house secret exit in world 5, which was itself a small number simply because those who took that secret exit were divided not only by those who took the secret exits in World 3 and 4, but the superfluous secret exit in world 5.
And since everything merges at world 7 it's obvious you won't get enough splits in the endgame to do any real damage to your numbers.
In the end, the deciding factor was *where* the secret exits were placed in worlds 3 and 4. World 1 cuts your people in half, and so did world 2. Then they were cut in half again the entrance to world 3 and 4. In world 3 the ghost house secret exit splits your players away to go to world 6, but the remaining players immediately go to fight the boss and merge back in the main path; Whereas in world 4 the secret exit that sends you to world six happens at the intersection of another split, and that made all the difference.
This is...a weird video. I like it because for the first time I feel like I'm not the only one who has thought way too much about this and other mario games. It's also funny to me that you mathed and flowcharted a mario game. It's almost BDG-esque, but I felt like you were 100% serious about what you wanted to do here, which is cool.

Also if U want to read my comment on the video, here is the copy paste
Note: After I finished the video, I tried my own attempt drawing the entire map , and while doing it, came to this conclusion:
The entire video is made focusing on division by level percentages, NOT by players. Actually, lots of things would be wrong
I'll take the hardest case as an example:
      The 7-house, 7-4, 7-5, 7-6 and 7-castle problem.
Once N players (in this case 100%) finish playing World 7's Ghost House, there are TWO posibilities:
Path A: Normal exit. Path B: Secret exit.
1/2 N players will follow each path.
      Path A leads to 3 posibilities: 7-4, 7-5 and 7-6
So each of these levels will be played by 1/6 N players, BUT here something never seen in the video before happens:
Players from 7-4 and 7-5 will play 7-6 afterwards (if you look at the map).
So 7-6 will get the 1/6 N of players who chose playing it after the Ghost House + 1/6 N players who decided to play 7-4 first (because after 7-4 you are forced to play 7-6) and this exact last thing also aplies for 7-5, so an extra 1/6.
      1/6 N + 1/6 N + 1/6 N = 3/6 N = 1/2 N
Finally, players from 7-6 are forced to play 7-castle afterwards so 7-castle gets an extra 1/2 N of players appart from Path B (previously set)'s 1/2N of players
      *Grand total plays are:*
      7-Ghost House: N
      7-4: 1/6 N
      7-5: 1/6 N
      7-6: 1/2 N
      7-Castle: N
As N in this case is 100% of players at this point in the game, percentages are:
      GH: 100%
      7-4: 16,666...%
      7-5: 16,666...%
      7-6: 50%
      Castle: 100%
I hope this is clear because I tried my own calculations on my own attempt and came to this conclusion :P
This also applies for lots of other cases through the game, but still great video, I admire how he calculated the World 6 Switches Madness, I still have to solve that

I don’t know if “unnecessary” is the right way to put it. This was definitely an interesting video and I loved seeing the flowchart of the different paths you can take, but I think an actual analysis of the world layout and the design of the levels themselves would have to be done in order to find the most unnecessary level. The most unnecessary level would be the level that the player has the least incentive to play. I think that discussion topic could make for a great video.

This is really cool! I can imagine it'd be really interesting to do this for Super Mario World, especially if the route through the Special World is counted.
Super Mario Bros 3 seems like it would be an absolute nightmare to do a video for. Either you just ignore the cloud and warp whistles (which seems dishonest - of *course* a bunch of Marios would grab two whistles and skip straight to World 8. Real players do all the time, after all), count them as viable options at any point (the "truest" answer, and horrendously complicated to track and explain; it basically means both that almost every level has potential routes to the first stages of other worlds, and that almost any stage is entirely skippable... Not to mention that there's no way to know exactly when each Mario would get clouds, or how many they'd get), or put arbitrary rules on their use (which would be complicated and, for definite, result in the comments section flooding with people who disagree with whatever rules you come up with).

I really like this kind of video, however I have 1 gripe:
At points where a secret exit containing level was followed with a split path (e.g. 3-Ghost House) you split into 3. I think you should have split into 2 (one for each exit) and then all the 'Normal Exit Marios' should split again for the split path. Making the secret level take half of the feeding level's Marios and the following 2 levels take a quarter of them, not all 3 getting a third.

    • @laytonjr6601

Prediction: it’ll be a tie. This isn’t really a prediction as much as it is a necessity, really. I don’t know the game well enough to say which levels it’ll be a tie between, but based on the established rules, it is mathematically impossible for it not to tie. Consider that percentages (or amount of Mario’s) in this scenario can only go down at a fork in the road. Since all split paths are split evenly regardless of content within the level or its difficulty to attain, any given level with a lower percentage than the previous level will have its percentage shared with another
