hey there, start at the bottom and work your way to the top. always tune your entire qanun! if you just tune a part of it you are creating uneven pressure on your bridge which may result in breaking the patches of skin under the bridge known as 'roqma'. hope that helps!
@@MayaYoussefMusic thank you for your quick reply. Your Qanun and of course your playing is mesmerizing! Are Al-Sukkar Qanuns generally good in quality? I don't see Kassis ones on the market.
@@haisamido thank you kindly! glad you are finding this helpeful. Sukkar's qanuns are very sturdy beginner qanuns. kassis doesnt make qanuns currently.
@@haisamido Kassis is the stradivarius of kanuns in my opinion. Sukkar is sturdy and reliable and has been so for so many years. but for a pro no one nothing beats a Kassis Qanun in my opinion
How would you think mucisians tuned a kanun before the use of mandals? I build buzuqs but I want to build a mini 15 course kanun without mandals as a test before I spend alot of money on mandals from turkey
hey Luke .. it was quite a nuisance. you had to know which song you are playing then tune each octave to a different maqam according to the modulations of the song. then you had to jump octaves.... not very practical. thank heavens for levers,.
Hi Maya, just wanted to say you are amazing! Also, how do you spell the name of the app you use?
ah bless you. thank you! Its InsTuner:)
Good day to you, we need to know the normal position of the mandals before tuning. You haven’t mentioned that.

Is there a particular set of strings to tune first? Or I can start from the top?
