    Eldritch Horror! Which is similar to other FF games, but each expansion adds new characters, monsters, and all kind of cards which make the permutations incredible. I know you have table issues, so you may have been intentionally avoiding it.

      I own it but haven't played it yet. I really need to (I say for the thousandth time). It'll be a squeeze at best, but I'm hoping to make it work

    Great list! I own Catharsis but haven't played it yet. I hope to get to it this summer. I thought it was pretty cool that you mentioned my comment from a previous video. I'm the one who tracks all of my plays of Marvel Champions in a spreadsheet and play every hero against a villain in every aspect, including the 'Pool aspect. 🙂 Thanks for another great discussion!

    Thanks for the great list! I had not heard of Catharsis. Thought "Too Many Bones" was going to hit the list ... it's expensive so i got half of the content (I got all the content except for the base game) but that is a lifetime of combinations.

      there are always you agitators in these comments campaigning for too many bones ;) I have never played it, but I know that I need to. Right now, I'm in a bit of a holding pattern until the results come in regarding tmb vs elder scrolls. I'm just enjoying hoplomachus victorum until then

      I still need to get street masters tried. I'm assuming I'll enjoy it, which will make getting sentinels a no-brainer, with my love of modularity and comics. thanks!

    Currently, mine would be
    1. Street Masters
    2. Aeon's End
    3. Ashes Reborn + Red Rains
    4. Misfall/Mistfall: Heart of the Mists
    5. Roll for Adventure
    Special mention: Lord pf the Rings LCG.
    However the deck construction being so important rather than pre-contructed decks, makes me feel it's less suitable for this particular list.
    Ashes, on the other hand, has great a great variety of pre-constructed decks for fighting the Chimera in solo mode (although you CAN construct your own decks if you like)

    • @JAlanRykerGames

    I did the spreadsheet thing once… and that was for Onirim. I dont play it so much these days but I must have got 200 plays out of it and could have got a tonne more; there are I think 6 mini expansions you can mix and match to change up the game. If they click with you, the Oniverse series might be the best value solo games out there

    • @JAlanRykerGames

  • @solomarvelchampion
    @solomarvelchampion 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Good list! Based on the title I knew Marvel Champions would make the list, and it's awesome to see it's your number 1 (I think I knew that LOL)! Just the core box has 60 "games" in it: 5 heroes X 3 villains X 4 aspects... that's GREAT modular value! I've ALMOST gotten Cthulhu Death May Die 3 or 4 times. I love the way it looks but I always stop myself because I have all of Arkham Horror the Card Game with several unplayed investigators.

    Great list! Marvel Champions is one of my most played games. I also play Aeon's End, but need to bring it to the table more. Final Girl is something that looks super fun too, but for some reason I have been putting off buying it =/

    • @JAlanRykerGames
      @JAlanRykerGames  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! The good thing about final girl at this point is that you can just try it out without buying a whole season. It's available at game nerdz for like $15 a box. If you're interested and the cost and hype is holding you back, know you can get it piecemeal and then decide to get more if you like it

    I hadn't heard of Catharsis before this video! Now I'm going to obsess about whether I should get it! Thanks for that... Seriously though, great list! Would Arkham Horror the Card Game fit this list? or is it too campaign-y? I might be imagining a single scenario theme that isn't there.

    • @JAlanRykerGames
      @JAlanRykerGames  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      haha you're welcome about Catharsis. If you like a yahtzee mechanism, it's almost a must-by, right up there for me with Vengeance Roll & Fight.
      For me, Arkham Horror TCG isn't just because I didn't want to replay the scenarios with different investigators. But just objectively, I think if a person does enjoy doing that, it puts it right up there with Marvel Champions for replayability, even if you do it differently by going through the whole sequence multiple times

      What I've found with the FFG LCGs is that people will often connect with one of the three. Marvel Champions is mine, but I can see why others choose arkham horror or lord of the rings. I can also see why people avoid the money pit altogether! :')

    Thank you again for your content. Hearing you speak about Final Girl reminded me that I have thought that while playing some of these horror type game could could create interesting stories that might be a good way to write a book based on these stories. Have you considered your gaming experience to use that in your stories?

    • @JAlanRykerGames
      @JAlanRykerGames  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I actually do use some game products to help with stories, because I'm very bad at generating ideas. They're more rpgs and rpg tools, though. don't feel obligated to watch this long video, but it shows me using the story engine, which a lot of people use as an rpg tool, and rory's story dice, to create a concept th-cam.com/video/PXgmEktU6f0/w-d-xo.html
      I also have a huge pdf pile of solo journaling rpgs where the whole point is to write a short story from the randomized prompts. I haven't tried that yet, but intend to
      As far as the horror board games, so far I've only used the subconsciously, but if I'm aware enough of a good twist (which your'e right, games like Final Girl provide in spades), I definitely would use it!

    I'm going to recommend "Space Infantry Resurgence" - a sci fi exploration/tactical game. Your team can be different each time, the missions themselves change with the node cards altering layouts, a variety of different enemy races to face in each mission, then add in all the alternative game modes and campaign options - it's a hell of a lot of game in a single box and i can't recommend it enough
