You know, this version of the song, with a more threatening overtone, makes me feel like you're on the opposite side of the battle. Rather than being the ultimate bad killing off the world's last hope, you are the world's last hope fighting against the final boss.
This hero, one of the only monsters who stood in your way in the Genocide route and who actually posed a threat, the hero who never gave up, even in the times when it seemed like there was no hope left for human and monster kind, Is the same woman.... Who burnt her house down trying to make spaghetti.

This remix takes an already great video game song and turns it into a ten minute god. Damn. EPIC. The piece starts off the same as the original, then immediately grabs your attention with a sudden burst of strings. Then the percussion. Oh good GOD the percussion. Having 20 of the damn things was an unbelievably genius decision. At first it's emotional but TRIUMPHANT, you feel like you're really one the battlefield with Undyne as she throws everything she has at the player with every bit of strength, every bit of hope, every bit of DETERMINATION she has to save. EVERYONE. Using the horns to carry the main melody was an excellent idea, as the triumphant sound that just EXPLODES through the orchestra. The middle section is used as a time of reflection, and the density of the orchestra drops down to a few instruments while the piano carries the main melody, absolutely nailing the emotion of the battle. It feels empty, and vulnerable. And then a quire is added, providing a link to the previous song "The Earth Refused to Die" and providing a sense of hope that the true hero will strike down the true evil. Then, everything begins to build back up towards that final section, and the end of the battle. The entire orchestra comes back with the main melody with this more somber section, until everything drops out except the flute with an unbelievable sense of finality and emotion. I can't sing the praises of this piece ENOUGH. This needs far more appreciation than what it has already.
I've loved the undertale fandom since day 1 (despite it being called toxic, with fair reasoning). I love this fandom because it has some really creative people and with an extremly awsome base line made by Toby fox, managed to create amazig peices of art in all forms (mods, comics, stories, peotry and ESPECIALLY the music). Yet knowing this, this is the FIRST version of Battle against a true hero that I not only like, but in my opinion, is far superior to ANY version ever made (including the original). You, second narrator, are a prime example of the best that this fandom has to offer. Thank you for this and your other themes. I would personally love to see your rendition of the main theme Undertale. Regardless keep up the good work! TL;DR love this fandom and this is some good shit XD

I may be a bit late to the party, but I think this song belongs to a different setting, and it's one I've thought of on the spot: Undyne is steeling her nerves. This human, no, WHATEVER it is will not get past her. She will fight and die to protect her home. She takes a hit that would kill her, and stumbles back. She can feel it, she can feel her body breaking. But she won't. Her body, no, her SOUL is unwilling. She can't die here. She WON'T die here. Through sheer will, she puts herself back together. She snarls at the human. "You're going to have to try a little harder than THAT!" The battle ensues, and now, Undyne has total control of the fight. She can sense strange deja vu, as if this has happened before, but that sense shatters once she realizes the human, somehow, can't keep up with her. Undyne has the absolute advantage, and the human is losing ground fast. Undyne shouts: "This ends here and now!" With one final barrage of spears, she'd done it. She's won. Then, something... compels her. Before the human's soul shatters, Undyne takes it and absorbs it. She can feel herself pulsing with new power, but it's fighting against her. She manages to calm the soul, and it properly merges with hers. She's exhausted for now, but soon, she'll head to the barrier, and free her kind. Their war with humans... is finally over.

Hey man, fellow TH-camr but also fellow musician here. I went to school for music performance (perc) and my god, this was breath taking. The thing about adapting a piece like this is you have to nail the emotions of each sections, and your choice of instrumentation showed you understood that beautifully. What an amazing find I stumbled upon today. It has everything the original has: Passion, Desperation and Sorrow. Though I bit too happy in the 3rd part of the original, but that can be added the belief/hope Undyne holds on to as she dies that the same power will be your own demise in the end. I can't wait to see what else this channel has.

This is an absolutely beautiful arrangement. So far, it's the best orchestrated version I've heard on TH-cam; hell, I'd even say it's even superior to the original. The string progression at 3:14 is really one of the most touching parts of this piece; I felt all the pain and emotion the battle conveyed when I heard it for the first time. It really was a beautiful detail, having the strings nearly override the main melody... I think the piece wouldn't have been the same without it. Really fantastic arrangement, keep it up. :D

This piece was so beautiful and just so powerful. I knew that music could make you feel a certain way and evoke different emotions, but I didn't know how effective it truly was until I starting bawling my eyes out while listening to this. This battle against Undyne was already sad enough and I love Toby's original version of this song, but you definitely amplified the "feels" and pure emotion with this one. I can't say how much I just LOVE this music masterpiece. Amazing work, seriously. Man, the talent you have to posses to create such a jaw-dropping, knock you on your ass kind of piece like this is just insane and so very awesome.
Doing genocide was completely a pain for me, but it was necessary for me to see the story from a different angle. I do not know, after doing pacifist I kind of started to see the characters like they were real people, I loved them , and doing genocide just made me feel bad XD

Imagine if during this fight, Undyne would be able to heal herself from sheer determination, but we would see her slowly melting away. That would be an interesting mechanic in this boss fight
Great job man, just thought i would throw in what this songs is and means to me. To me this song is a hopeless last stand on the edge of the world, its about undyne risking it all on this last ditch attempt to save everyone an all or nothing situation, but she will never win, and she never knows it, she fights with all she has but every victory is instantly erased from history and she is fighting again, she faces a creature of incomprehensible evil, a sick and twisted being, that only smiles as it plays with her. I could not think of a more hopeless situation myself but she still stands and she still fights because that is what she must do, it is the only thing she can do, but it will always never be enough.

sorry, but can we marvel that the incoming arrows between 1:15 and 1:21 were in time with (what sounded to me like) the flute? the attention to detail in this orchestration is impeccable, and i love it!
I have to say, this is my favorite orchestral arrangement of this piece. You did an absolutely wonderful job maintaining the spirit of the original, while at the same time giving your own spin on what it would sound like. I especially like that this arrangement has a distinctly desperate and tragic edge which grows the further into the piece we get, which comes to a head at 4:09, which is just utterly beautiful. For all that, you have my compliments. However, there are a few things that I felt could have made this piece a bit better. I like that there is some dynamic contrast in certain parts, but I feel that it could be a bit more exaggerated. I also think that a key change when the piano comes in at 2:52 would have helped the change in mood. It also feels like the piece doesn't quite know when to end on the second loop. I personally feel that 9:36 is where the piece should end. Either way, that's just my opinion. This arrangement's awesome, and I look forward to seeing what else you do!

The song does show the sadness and hopelessness of this situation. Knowing that you lose and let down everyone you know and love... A true masterpiece that defines the fight in a whole.
The song is called “Battle Against a True Hero” because no matter what kind of run you do, Undyne is always the hero, and she is always willing to do what’s right, no matter what. Whether you’re a monster serial killer or just some whole-hearted kid, Undyne will be the hero.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say this is one of your more recent pieces just based on how you not only captured the emotion and energy of BAaTH, but you _improved_ it as well. Like, your VS SUSIE orchestraial cover has to be one of my favorites from you, and it’s because of the way you made the song your own while sticking by what the original represented, and THAT, good sir, is why I’m subscribed to this channel. Personally, I was cheering for Undyne the entire time. I hoped that she would win and save everyone. If the human is allowed to get past her, they'll destroy the entire world! Not just monsters, but humanity as well! If Undyne, Mettaton (with better defences) and Sans all teamed up, they'd be an unstoppable final stand against the fallen human!
Honestly, Asgore not holding back would be far too difficult. It's basically been confirmed that he can dodge, and if he actually dealt full damage he'd two shot you.
This song gives me tingles, it's like this is what's playing on undyne's side while fighting us, we're getting the normal version of the song, this is making up for everything she stood for we never heard in Undertale

This abomination is a nothing but a threat to you and you’re loved ones. Knowing that their fate rests on your shoulders fills you with determination. *The heroin appears*
You know, I listened to an orchestral cover of Battle Against a True Hero once, I think by Cloudjumper, that had this really cool part to it. When the mainly melody comes in, the base part normally played by strings is actually played by this booming French horn and plays it super menacingly. And it made me wonder, "Wow, Battle Against a True Hero sounds really good with some tense minor parts." The song already sounds great, this force of heroism with its angelic and powerful style, but throwing in those hints of evil, that of the adversary she faces, the impending doom of the human's terror, accentuates it all that much more for me. Little did I know a composer came to answer to answer that oddly specific desire. I just adore the way the song starts off, with the usual hero motif, before suddenly striking in with those violins, followed by that warrior like percussion. It feels just like the theme you'd hear at the climax of the final battle, watching the hero get up again with their sudden power-up and give the villain a run for their money. It maintains that tension during the verse, the strings constantly moving under the melody in a way that was already there in the original song but accentuated to show their meaning, feeling more and more like quick-footed battle of skill, almost like hand-to-hand combat... until it just suddenly completely deviates from the song! This all new section is like, everything I didn't know I wanted from Battle Against a True Hero. Taking a break from showing the stakes and the scope, and honing in on the single warrior driving it all. And of course, it seamlessly dives back into the main melody, as if it just gave us that break to give Undyne her moment. Then it all falls away with that satisfying fade out, leading to the ending justice everyone knows of. Pretty much every cover I've heard focuses on this part, and for good reason! It's one of the coolest and most recognizable parts of the piece, portraying the true heroism and spear of justice that Undyne is, and everyone gives it the fanfare it deserves. And yet, this song hits differently. Already the build up to it changes its meaning, in a way that feels more pure than other covers because we took that time away from the meaning of it all to just give focus to the harsh but awesome combat and villain, the final fanfare really feels like Undyne carving a moment for herself, actually earning the combat of this final section to unleash her all. This song pushes Undyne to her limit, until she finally strikes back with all she has. But even then, it hits differently still. It doesn't just throw in a ton of fanfare like other covers do, making the trumpets chant loudly of her heroism. It actually focuses on the essence of that justice, starting with classic piano and guitar as usual, but then beginning to have the piano deviate, weaving through the set path with this warrior's elegance, occasionally syncing up before deviating again, before finally stamping its foot down. And what's crazy is the dynamic doesn't even increase that much as we hit the fanfare, everything feels equal. The piano gliding through, the woodwinds whizzing by, the trumpet chanting to the beat, even the strings and percussion from earlier make a return to show what justice opposes. All of it is equal, until the repeat of the fanfare, which only then has the strings come in to finally ascend Undyne to the next level, giving its all without losing its elegance, until finally it runs out, leaving Undyne to fall, and every instrument from earlier to give its final goodbye. Once with the tenderness of those who loved her. A second time for her fallen warriors. And a third to show she, and what she stands for, will never truly die. The Second Narrator does it again, taking a song rife with potential and ideas, and transforming it from just a theme, to an anthem, a story. One that gives every aspect of what Undyne the Undying truly is.

This is probably one of my favorite covers of this song ever. Not only do you keep the feel of the original song, you added and tweaked a lot of it. As someone else said, the play on leitmotif variation just elevates this song in so many ways I cannot describe.
This sounds like end credits music, and I mean that in a good way. It has the inspirational flair to close off a spectacular story like Undertale, and has a kind of energy in it which reminds me of soaring through the skies with beautiful sights below. There's a mix of ethereal bliss and sharp, determined focus that flows in a natural and invigorating way. Not really as good for battle music as other versions, but this interpretation has a majestic grace to it that I absolutely love. The ebb and flow between calm and soaring reminds me of the kind of back and forth present in Undertale's combat, and it fits the Undyne fight well from a thematic standpoint. The Sans fight wouldn't pair well with this, considering how difficult, tense, and intrusive it is, but it goes perfectly with the twirling spears, ethereal glow from her eye, howling winds, and intently focused grace present in this battle. So... well done
at 1:05 when the message "the wind is howling" appears, you can hear some lower tone notes, which gives it more… power, that's just one of the things i noticed, and i can go on quite a bit

I get chills every time I read this, excellent writing in this scene.
This remix takes an already great video game song and turns it into a ten minute god. Damn. EPIC. The piece starts off the same as the original, then immediately grabs your attention with a sudden burst of strings. Then the percussion. Oh good GOD the percussion. Having 20 of the damn things was an unbelievably genius decision. At first it's emotional but TRIUMPHANT, you feel like you're really one the battlefield with Undyne as she throws everything she has at the player with every bit of strength, every bit of hope, every bit of DETERMINATION she has to save. EVERYONE. Using the horns to carry the main melody was an excellent idea, as the triumphant sound that just EXPLODES through the orchestra. The middle section is used as a time of reflection, and the density of the orchestra drops down to a few instruments while the piano carries the main melody, absolutely nailing the emotion of the battle. It feels empty, and vulnerable. And then a quire is added, providing a link to the previous song "The Earth Refused to Die" and providing a sense of hope that the true hero will strike down the true evil. Then, everything begins to build back up towards that final section, and the end of the battle. The entire orchestra comes back with the main melody with this more somber section, until everything drops out except the flute with an unbelievable sense of finality and emotion. I can't sing the praises of this piece ENOUGH. This needs far more appreciation than what it has already.

I've loved the undertale fandom since day 1 (despite it being called toxic, with fair reasoning). I love this fandom because it has some really creative people and with an extremly awsome base line made by Toby fox, managed to create amazig peices of art in all forms (mods, comics, stories, peotry and ESPECIALLY the music). Yet knowing this, this is the FIRST version of Battle against a true hero that I not only like, but in my opinion, is far superior to ANY version ever made (including the original). You, second narrator, are a prime example of the best that this fandom has to offer. Thank you for this and your other themes. I would personally love to see your rendition of the main theme Undertale. Regardless keep up the good work!

I may be a bit late to the party, but I think this song belongs to a different setting, and it's one I've thought of on the spot:
Undyne is steeling her nerves. This human, no, WHATEVER it is will not get past her. She will fight and die to protect her home. She takes a hit that would kill her, and stumbles back. She can feel it, she can feel her body breaking. But she won't. Her body, no, her SOUL is unwilling. She can't die here. She WON'T die here. Through sheer will, she puts herself back together. She snarls at the human. "You're going to have to try a little harder than THAT!" The battle ensues, and now, Undyne has total control of the fight. She can sense strange deja vu, as if this has happened before, but that sense shatters once she realizes the human, somehow, can't keep up with her. Undyne has the absolute advantage, and the human is losing ground fast. Undyne shouts: "This ends here and now!" With one final barrage of spears, she'd done it. She's won. Then, something... compels her. Before the human's soul shatters, Undyne takes it and absorbs it. She can feel herself pulsing with new power, but it's fighting against her. She manages to calm the soul, and it properly merges with hers. She's exhausted for now, but soon, she'll head to the barrier, and free her kind. Their war with humans... is finally over.

What an amazing find I stumbled upon today.
It has everything the original has: Passion, Desperation and Sorrow.
Though I bit too happy in the 3rd part of the original, but that can be added the belief/hope Undyne holds on to as she dies that the same power will be your own demise in the end.
I can't wait to see what else this channel has.

This is an absolutely beautiful arrangement. So far, it's the best orchestrated version I've heard on TH-cam; hell, I'd even say it's even superior to the original. The string progression at 3:14 is really one of the most touching parts of this piece; I felt all the pain and emotion the battle conveyed when I heard it for the first time. It really was a beautiful detail, having the strings nearly override the main melody... I think the piece wouldn't have been the same without it. Really fantastic arrangement, keep it up. :D

This piece was so beautiful and just so powerful. I knew that music could make you feel a certain way and evoke different emotions, but I didn't know how effective it truly was until I starting bawling my eyes out while listening to this. This battle against Undyne was already sad enough and I love Toby's original version of this song, but you definitely amplified the "feels" and pure emotion with this one. I can't say how much I just LOVE this music masterpiece. Amazing work, seriously. Man, the talent you have to posses to create such a jaw-dropping, knock you on your ass kind of piece like this is just insane and so very awesome.
Doing genocide was completely a pain for me, but it was necessary for me to see the story from a different angle.
I do not know, after doing pacifist I kind of started to see the characters like they were real people, I loved them , and doing genocide just made me feel bad XD

Great job man, just thought i would throw in what this songs is and means to me. To me this song is a hopeless last stand on the edge of the world, its about undyne risking it all on this last ditch attempt to save everyone an all or nothing situation, but she will never win, and she never knows it, she fights with all she has but every victory is instantly erased from history and she is fighting again, she faces a creature of incomprehensible evil, a sick and twisted being, that only smiles as it plays with her. I could not think of a more hopeless situation myself but she still stands and she still fights because that is what she must do, it is the only thing she can do, but it will always never be enough.

I have to say, this is my favorite orchestral arrangement of this piece. You did an absolutely wonderful job maintaining the spirit of the original, while at the same time giving your own spin on what it would sound like. I especially like that this arrangement has a distinctly desperate and tragic edge which grows the further into the piece we get, which comes to a head at 4:09, which is just utterly beautiful. For all that, you have my compliments.
However, there are a few things that I felt could have made this piece a bit better. I like that there is some dynamic contrast in certain parts, but I feel that it could be a bit more exaggerated. I also think that a key change when the piano comes in at 2:52 would have helped the change in mood. It also feels like the piece doesn't quite know when to end on the second loop. I personally feel that 9:36 is where the piece should end.
Either way, that's just my opinion. This arrangement's awesome, and I look forward to seeing what else you do!

At least you don't have to watch her melt as much as she does if you kill her in the neutral route.
It's honestly worse to see her die in that route, at least in the genocide one, she was able to fight at her full power.

The song is called “Battle Against a True Hero” because no matter what kind of run you do, Undyne is always the hero, and she is always willing to do what’s right, no matter what. Whether you’re a monster serial killer or just some whole-hearted kid, Undyne will be the hero.
Idk why, but I was and still am always shook when I see “The Wind is Howling” pop up. Shit gives me goosebumps.

You know, I listened to an orchestral cover of Battle Against a True Hero once, I think by Cloudjumper, that had this really cool part to it. When the mainly melody comes in, the base part normally played by strings is actually played by this booming French horn and plays it super menacingly.
And it made me wonder, "Wow, Battle Against a True Hero sounds really good with some tense minor parts." The song already sounds great, this force of heroism with its angelic and powerful style, but throwing in those hints of evil, that of the adversary she faces, the impending doom of the human's terror, accentuates it all that much more for me.
Little did I know a composer came to answer to answer that oddly specific desire.
I just adore the way the song starts off, with the usual hero motif, before suddenly striking in with those violins, followed by that warrior like percussion. It feels just like the theme you'd hear at the climax of the final battle, watching the hero get up again with their sudden power-up and give the villain a run for their money. It maintains that tension during the verse, the strings constantly moving under the melody in a way that was already there in the original song but accentuated to show their meaning, feeling more and more like quick-footed battle of skill, almost like hand-to-hand combat... until it just suddenly completely deviates from the song!
This all new section is like, everything I didn't know I wanted from Battle Against a True Hero. Taking a break from showing the stakes and the scope, and honing in on the single warrior driving it all. And of course, it seamlessly dives back into the main melody, as if it just gave us that break to give Undyne her moment. Then it all falls away with that satisfying fade out, leading to the ending justice everyone knows of.
Pretty much every cover I've heard focuses on this part, and for good reason! It's one of the coolest and most recognizable parts of the piece, portraying the true heroism and spear of justice that Undyne is, and everyone gives it the fanfare it deserves. And yet, this song hits differently. Already the build up to it changes its meaning, in a way that feels more pure than other covers because we took that time away from the meaning of it all to just give focus to the harsh but awesome combat and villain, the final fanfare really feels like Undyne carving a moment for herself, actually earning the combat of this final section to unleash her all. This song pushes Undyne to her limit, until she finally strikes back with all she has.
But even then, it hits differently still. It doesn't just throw in a ton of fanfare like other covers do, making the trumpets chant loudly of her heroism. It actually focuses on the essence of that justice, starting with classic piano and guitar as usual, but then beginning to have the piano deviate, weaving through the set path with this warrior's elegance, occasionally syncing up before deviating again, before finally stamping its foot down. And what's crazy is the dynamic doesn't even increase that much as we hit the fanfare, everything feels equal. The piano gliding through, the woodwinds whizzing by, the trumpet chanting to the beat, even the strings and percussion from earlier make a return to show what justice opposes. All of it is equal, until the repeat of the fanfare, which only then has the strings come in to finally ascend Undyne to the next level, giving its all without losing its elegance, until finally it runs out, leaving Undyne to fall, and every instrument from earlier to give its final goodbye.
Once with the tenderness of those who loved her. A second time for her fallen warriors. And a third to show she, and what she stands for, will never truly die. The Second Narrator does it again, taking a song rife with potential and ideas, and transforming it from just a theme, to an anthem, a story. One that gives every aspect of what Undyne the Undying truly is.

This is probably one of my favorite covers of this song ever. Not only do you keep the feel of the original song, you added and tweaked a lot of it. As someone else said, the play on leitmotif variation just elevates this song in so many ways I cannot describe.

This sounds like end credits music, and I mean that in a good way.
It has the inspirational flair to close off a spectacular story like Undertale, and has a kind of energy in it which reminds me of soaring through the skies with beautiful sights below. There's a mix of ethereal bliss and sharp, determined focus that flows in a natural and invigorating way.
Not really as good for battle music as other versions, but this interpretation has a majestic grace to it that I absolutely love. The ebb and flow between calm and soaring reminds me of the kind of back and forth present in Undertale's combat, and it fits the Undyne fight well from a thematic standpoint. The Sans fight wouldn't pair well with this, considering how difficult, tense, and intrusive it is, but it goes perfectly with the twirling spears, ethereal glow from her eye, howling winds, and intently focused grace present in this battle.
