    Well done Sam! I have a display case like it, my grandad made me it during the 2020 lock down, out of an old cupboard in his kitchen. It is now fitted to the wall above my desk and contains all of my tank engines, anything from a pair of 4575 tanks to a rapido J70!

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm very pleased with this for what I paid! Mine has to be quite tight unfortunately, as that spreads the load a bit more on my wall!

    Nice cabinet, but I thought you loved Miles far too much to shut him up in it. I'd feel better if you took Miles and the other steamies out of the cabinet, and replaced them with stinky diesels. Your diesels should be shut up in there, not Miles and your 3D printed steamies. I'd be very upset if Miles never ran on your railway again. If I have to, I'll pester you to let him out. Plus, Bullman should be in there, his magical and chaotic appearances are freaking me out. LET MILES OUT!

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh yes sorry about that Kelly - I do love Miles - he's actually safe from the elements in there, so it was an act of love to protect him! He will return to the railway... but he's old and tired... it'll have to be at his own pace, and on his own say-so if he does!
      Thanks for watching, Sam :)

    Does Miles still work? I was going to say, if he does, and you hook him up to his solar coach, wouldn't the lighting you use be enough to power him? I don't imagine he would take off like a rocket, but maybe just move a little? Not enough to notice, but You'll be filming one day, and be startled straight out of slippers by the random sound of Miles pushing Pete to the his oblivion on the carpet below...

    Good job, Sam! Many years ago I bought a similar but smaller pre-made wall case for my HO locomotives. It came with flangeways cut into the shelves thus eliminating the need for track. It's a great way to keep them visible but clean and out of danger. I hope you enjoy your museum. Perhaps someday you can add suitable plaques and find a docent to conduct the tours. ;->

    Personally I'd like to see either the old Bachmann Union Pacific Smoking 2-6-2 in there (because what museum doesn't have a strange lemon?) and/or that old diecast GWR steamer you used in an April Fool's vid two years ago. As a matter of fact I'm currently building my own museum (but its an actual operating layout) housing some of the older brass locomotives from the 60's I acquired.

I was thinking 'That part of the unboxing/unwrapping is going to be REALLY interesting' -- but no. On the other hand, maybe if kids are going to be watching your channel... Perhaps best not to show that part, then.

  • @jdenm8
    @jdenm8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not a bad job! The design of the cabinet itself is a bit questionable, the better-quality ones I've seen typically have two different depths of channel for the glass to run in, a deep top channel and shallow bottom one (or, alternatively, plastic balls in the bottom channel to provide smooth sliding, particularly if the channels are extruded aluminium). This is so you can lift the glass up and out of the bottom channel, then angle it out of the frame while it's still assembled. Trapping the glass (and shelves!) like this is asking for trouble in my opinion. But I guess that gives the manufacturer differentiation between the £50 version and the £100 version for a paltry 50p in materials.

  • @garywyn
    @garywyn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ive overloaded mine with Hornby Thomas locos and now all the shelves are bowed and the glass door keeps falling out. Probably had 20 locos on it 🤦🏻‍♂️

    I fixed a 2"x1" batten below my Train Display cabinet. I fixed that onto the wall first because it was easier to get level, and it gave the cabinet something to rest on whilst doing the rest of the fixing; and so that the stresses were spread out rather than just in couple of screw-points. Maybe consider that next time..
    You'll want another cabinet..

  • @DaiElsan
    @DaiElsan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could have glued a wooden batten behind the plasterboard. It would have done the job. It's nice to see all your endeavours safely displayed. When you display them you realise just how much you've learned, made, and proved works.
