10:38 - That is an SDP40F in a slightly off Phase I livery (it's also known as the "bloody nose" for obvious reasons). That was Amtrak's first locomotives that they took delivery of after they were formed in 1971. Until then they were using the locomotives and rolling stock of the other railroads they took over passenger services from. They were also infamously bad running locomotives because they couldn't handle running at high speeds very well. It would be cool if you could get a hold of a modern model from the Athearn Genesis line and take a look at them. Something that you may like is they ran with trains of mixed liveries in the very beginning, and for that reason this time was known as Amtrak's rainbow era. You can still see footage online of trains with Orange, Blue, Green, Yellow and Silver cars throughout their network.
A note from Canada. I love watching you fix engines. Everybody with a layout has a few engines that do not run properly. Some are noisy, some jerky, some slow, some won't crawl, etc etc. Why not make a video on what the most common causes of these problems are? David Nunney
An interesting video and a suggestion, I know you already have the cheap see through clip lid containers and that these are readily available at Bargain Stores. Segregate all of the spares into sections i.e. Track, Locomotives, Carriages, Wagons, Electrical etc. It would make life so much easier. Repairing the damaged items is a series on its own and of great help to up and coming aspiring modellers.
that Amtrak body you pulled out is the SDP40F. I think you also pulled out its chassis not long after. It was built by Electro-Motive Division from 1973 - 1974. 150 of them were built. They were one of Amtrak's first new passenger locomotives as by this time they were primarily using old F and E units from other railroads. However they were plagued with issues. The six axle bogies, steam heaters and having a heavy locomotive pull lightweight coaches caused the very heavy locomotives to ride roughly. And given, Amtrak's rails weren't in the best of shape at this time. The SDP40F's were often caught up in wrecks. Much of them were traded for ATSF engines and switchers (we call shunters, switchers here in the states) where they actually rode a lot better on the ATSF. Only of them are left today over in Nevada where it even operates.

The tornado chassis you had in there, is in there because you took the motor for your tts p2 as it had a 3 pole in originally so you swapped for tornados.

For a experiment you could probably use the spare body from that Frankenstein loco you could make it loco driven and 3-D print a new tender and chassis for it so you could run it
You should try making a diorama with the broken chassis and body’s. you could paint them in a rusty brown colour and use on gauge trees and scenery to create the natural landscape. I would love to see you have a go at that.

10:37 The model is of an FP45 locomotive. Amtrak never owned them but they owed a similar class in the 1970's called the SDP40F. Incorrect liveries are common on US train set locos. I'd love to see you review a more recently produced model of a North American diesel. The prototype doesn't need to be modern, just the model itself. I guess they're harder to come by and are more expensive in the UK.
Hi Sam great video as usual. Please restore those first few models you got out of box 1 they really are great and you should buy that schools class a new tender and get her running again.
Agreed. A new tender for the Schools Class loco would restore it beautifully. Would be lovely to see it running, instead of festering in the scrapyard.
fixing up some your old O scale models that in the scrapyard... or turn a OO/HO tender driven engine in to a non tender driven engine( where the motor is in the boiler.
maybe for the schools class with no tender, you could try to 3D print a tender for it to at least make it whole again, and possibly try to power the tender if you think it'd be possible
Sam, I think I know about your tornado chassis. I remember in a video you bought a tornado for parts and you used the motor in the P2 I think. Great video
I bought a broken locomotive once. I haven't managed to do anything with it yet, but the tender and body are intact... I just need to find a new wheel pair, and maybe a new motor if I feel like it
The School's Class at 19:10 looks great. If you could find a working tender for it then it would be a great running engine. Or find a tender without the Motor then it would make an impressive display piece at least.
Hi Sam how about converting a old hornby or bachmann even triang to dcc with sound and headlamps and just all round bringing it in to 2021 would be a good watch or build a makeshift largest model railway bridge with huge inclines see which locos can do it.

i have a new name for this, instead of calling it a scrapyard which is slightly depressing, call it the box of one day. you seemed to be saying "one day this will be fixed" or something like that a lot so i feel this would be fitting
I think you could use that for a fun little video of one of your southern steam locomotives finding it in a siding and taking it to its heritage railway to be restored
@@SamsTrains Your welcome, I think another good idea would be to use it in one of your Christmas specials and have it, the ugly tank engine, and Bullman do a triple header on the Christmas train.
Hi Sam. Just an idea. With all of that you could perhaps fabricate some decent working starter kit for a give-away to some child...? Just a wild thought, lol.
How about getting a chassis cobbled together that runs, and use some of the body parts to build a real steam punk loco to show hornby how it should be done?
I just realised a lot of those wagons are reusable to you now - if you remove the tops from the wheelbases, you can do the measurements and augment your existing wheelbase design for each of them, then glue them together and wham! Recycled, and all you have left are scrap wheelsets.

Agreed. A new tender for the Schools Class loco would restore it beautifully. Would be lovely to see it running, instead of festering in the scrapyard.
Thanks very much Chris - I will definitely do that with those! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Let us know when they are running again
You should add a scrapyard to your layout, using these models as scrap props
Great idea Miller! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
fixing up some your old O scale models that in the scrapyard... or turn a OO/HO tender driven engine in to a non tender driven engine( where the motor is in the boiler.
Here is what you do with that Schools class loco from the two tender monster: Motorize it and couple it in front of the monster for MORE POWER!
maybe for the schools class with no tender, you could try to 3D print a tender for it to at least make it whole again, and possibly try to power the tender if you think it'd be possible
you could make a frankin engine using random parts from the boxes
that could be a video
Maybe you could make a small portion of your layout around the one locomotive that you stole the tender from as it being a display piece
8:48 Bullmans got a new friend.
Hi Sam. You have some better stuff in your scrap box than I have on my layout.
Sam, I think I know about your tornado chassis. I remember in a video you bought a tornado for parts and you used the motor in the P2 I think.
Great video
Would love to see the horse become a friend for Bullman
Underground Ernie chassis' I used to power Lisbon Tram bodies, or Keil Craft 4-wheel tram kits!
One day if I ever get to have a model train layout I really want to recreate the LTEX diesel locomotive scrap yard in McDonald Ohio.
That first American loco is probably an Athearn SDP40F and they are quite rare in the UK
"In case of...", "this could work for an experiment..."... Sam we are just like you, collectors never throw away stuff
haha exactly! The moment you throw anything away, you need it!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
For your 1 million milestone you should get all of your locos in a line and get them to pull as much rolling stock as you can fit on the track
haha that'd be awesome!! Maybe one day! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hi Sam how about converting a old hornby or bachmann even triang to dcc with sound and headlamps and just all round bringing it in to 2021 would be a good watch or build a makeshift largest model railway bridge with huge inclines see which locos can do it.
Congrats, Sam! You have reached the critical mass of spare parts. Keep on hoarding!
haha I think you're right - lol! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
You could probally build the Iron Works for Harold and Herbert AKA Arry and Bert some of the locomotive bodies could be great decoration for for the Iron Works or scrap yard and the schools class could be turn to a museum piece you can put it on your turn table
i have a new name for this, instead of calling it a scrapyard which is slightly depressing, call it the box of one day. you seemed to be saying "one day this will be fixed" or something like that a lot so i feel this would be fitting
Lovely idea Pierce - I'll have to start calling it that!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I think that for some of this stuff you should use them in a scrap yard for the layout.
This is amazing! I would love to see more!
I think you could use that for a fun little video of one of your southern steam locomotives finding it in a siding and taking it to its heritage railway to be restored
Awhh that's a nice idea - I'll make a note of that one! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Yea I remember the original scrapyard video, the box your grandpa gave you more recently was also interesting. :D
Oh yeah! That one was fun!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
You should have pre warned that you were going to show under ground Ernie. I jumped a mile. Great video as always. Cheers Paul.
haha apologies Paul... yes that engine should come with a health warning!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I just realised a lot of those wagons are reusable to you now - if you remove the tops from the wheelbases, you can do the measurements and augment your existing wheelbase design for each of them, then glue them together and wham! Recycled, and all you have left are scrap wheelsets.
Yeah that's very true actually - that's a great project idea! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
A little bit of weathering and some paint on some of those could possibly add afew extra bits to a layout
Yeah that's true - could do that with some of them! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
i hear the scrapmonster calling...quite a few salvageable items there.
How about a salvage or scrap episode where you take a box and try and fix as much inside as you can.
Idea for the brake van it could go on the layout as a fish and chip shop
Hi Sam, why am I watching this..?
But to me, there is a Few projects for the 3D printer, in that mess..!
And, I was almost tempted to Suggest, Separating 00 gauge & 0 into a couple of Decent Storage boxes. But maybe I won't..!?
I make 1/35 model's a fair amount of time, when not in 00 world..!!
And have Storage boxes for All the leftover Bits n Pieces
that may come spare with a kit. The amount of times a Part has Pinged off into Orbit.
Than those Boxes are a magic lifesaver.!!
"Organise young man." And loose the Carboard boxes. They Fall apart or over..!!
But thanx for the Odd entertainment...!!
Cheers kim in Oz..!😎
This sounds interesting sam can’t wait to watch it
Thanks Harry - hope you enjoy it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains hopefully you actually make tons of salvage or scrap videos for O and OO gauges
You've got more salvageable scrap than I've got working engines
You can make junkyard near loco workshop in your minature city ......like i long ago vist loco workshop n their lies some old half loco here n there for parts....it's looks cool like nostalgic recreation from past
