If you go back and watch this very closely you can see and appreciate the immense amount of in jokes, references to episodes, and cameos from every other iteration of the theme song in this opening. Just goes to show you that the creators actually really care about this show and now adult swim has lost their longest running show and my personal favorite, it will be deeply and unfathomably missed.

@@TheFlamerWolf It was adult swim's flagship show for 15 years. Adult Swim execs said they wanted to move away from it and try something new - even though it was still popular.
That said, the same execs said that they may bring the show back. And a second movie is confirmed to be in development.

0:08 Rabbot (at the left) and Markula (in the car at the right)
0:10 the back is basically the background used in the intro for the first 7 seasons
0:13 the billboard has a fragment of the Aqua Unit Patrol Squad intro
0:14 Jimmy the Wizard and Cybernetic Ghost at the right, and a fast appearance by Err at the right of Frylock
0:15 Freda at the right of Meatwad, the background is also used in the intro of Aqua TV Show Show
0:22 Travis of the Cosmos is seen briefly at the right window when Frylock is walking to the chair

Considering that people in the comments don’t recognize Svetlana, I’m betting that she or even Freda have been mistaken for Dusty on the wiki. There is one that’s not on the list though- The zombie rabbit Meatwad also named Nathan Scott Philips from Super Birthday Snake is the tattoo on Dr. Weird’s other arm.

Guy died. It went on for a decade and a half. People who were new to the field and there for Adult Swim's birth, maybe age 25 or so when they started, are round 40 now. Time devours all things.

I love how a lot of these scenes are based off the original ATHF Opening scenes just with the animation quality they always wanted to illustrate those scenes plus the callbacks to prominent side characters that only appear once is a beautiful touch too!

Besides just being a cool opening in of itself, I really, really like the combination of hip-hop and 80/90s anime. It's not just a generic anime parody or an animized opening. Can anyone point me to cartoons/games/comics/music videos/etc. that do the same thing.

The fact that Mike Lazzo canceled this show despite the wishes of the creators to continue, and despite the wishes of the fans who want it to go on, shows just how miserably out-of-touch he is with the fanbase. But maybe that's it . . . he just wants to get rid of everybody who once loved Adult Swim and start anew with something more generic, and thus more appealing to a broader (if less enthusiastic) demographic.
