  • In this video I venture out into the Solent with one of the larger tides of the year. A full 5 metre spring tide makes everything just that little bit more difficult and setting the anchor and ensuring it holds results in it getting stuck fast.
    I am coming to grips with my boat set-up and fine tuning all aspects including the best way to capture the filming side of things.

    Nice to see you out there and good to talk to you on the VHF. I stayed on to 23:30 but no cod but plenty of conger eels . I am always on ch10 give me a call if you see me out motley crew. Did notice you had a problem with the anchor but glad you got it out.

      Hi Jamie, nice chatting with you and you have a stunning fishing boat.
      I was very tempted to stay but was rapidly running out of bait and it was my first night navigation of the river.
      The problem with my anchor was too much weight in the chain and too small a buoy. I think I’ve got it sorted now but it is still a learning curve until fine tuned.
      Do you fish that mark often or do you tend to stay further east, Nab etc?

    • @shakyangler
      @shakyangler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have fished there several times and more to towards gillkicker.
      They are good early cod marks.
      I do fish east as well and plenty of marks . If you want some fishing mark numbers you are more than welcome to them. I am not for one keeping every thing a secret as we all need information at times to improve our angling. As said I know Wayne very well who features in total awesome fishing when you want gain knowledge at shark fishing back of the IOW .
      Give me a buzz and I can arrange with Wayne to have a chat

      TY for the help and offer. Would it be possible to PM via Facebook or Instagram to exchange details? I am very interested in any pointers for locations in the Solent or East of the IOW.
      I am very keen on trying for a blue shark next summer as my intro into open water shark fishing/drifting.

      Was youtubing through the night, and saw a video about a
      ball that helps free your anchor and raise it to the surface. Don't know if you've seen it. Looks a good idea. Just a thought.

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use the same system where you use a buoy connected to an Alderney ring and motor the boat to raise the anchor. My chain was too heavy and buoy too small. It is a tuning process and I’m almost there. 👍🏻

    • @ianturner3033
      @ianturner3033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seaangling Just saw it Mark and thought it was a good idea. Saves the strain of pulling the anchor up too. Less strain on your back.
      Wonder if a similar system could be made to get big skate off the seabed? Or fish up out the rocks and kelp. New project for you? LOL.
      But that would kill the excitement of the fight I think.
      Hope you get the anchor ball sorted soon.
      Stay safe.

      I go through a process with every video to see how I can improve or change things. Lighting and sound are the hardest to resolve and the Bluetooth mic give a lot of freedom as you have noticed, a lot of people wouldn’t spot that. It was a shame that I lost some good footage because of a dodgy mic.
      I’ll be focusing on bigger critters very soon but doggies and tings are the Solent staple.

    Very nice video. The thing with weights is that when you get a reasonable fish on you don't notice the weight. A mark I like to fish for blondes, I usually start on 2lb the decrease the weight as the tide swings you round. Mostly my fishing is with weights between 4oz and 1lb which is quite acceptable. I haven't had a ting on my boat yet. Keep the videos coming.

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m looking for some moods to make my own weights. I need a variety for the boat and it should make a nice film. I’d love to catch a blonde to add to my ray count. Quite possibly the hardest one to catch and certainly not from anywhere close to me.

      Fiddles are sides to stop spillage.
      Plates on ships use to be square, hence the term “square meal” and the plates had sides called fiddles.

    Sometimes, I just can't find what I am looking for!
    Boat fishing weights: I am sure Graeme from TA fishing was making boat weights a while ago. It involved pushing a pointed wooden stake into a pot of damp sand as a mould, to what ever size weight you wanted to produce. He has got a few videos about making weights in his "how to" playlist, but I can't find the wooden stake one! If can find it, I'll post you a link.
    Bait tables: There was a chap called Garry in Portsmouth making great fibreglass bait tables to order. His username on WSF is Garry23Flyer. A search on WSF brings up the following list of threads relating to bait tables, and he seems to feature in a lot of them along with photos. www.worldseafishing.com/threads/bait-table.2232236/#post-6247712.
    Good luck - always willing to help where I can! 👍👍
