Steve and Sora/G&W in grand finals, maister SD'ing twice in the first game, the preemptive confetti (with perfect comedic timing suggesting a celebration of the first NA Sora win in top 8), the crowd yelling out Sora's neutral B moves....this was a perfect storm of goofiness.
I was yelling Sora's spells before the crowd started doing it, so when they joined in I didn't know if I was just hearing things or if they were actually chanting too. Just goes to show we're all connected in the hype of Smash no matter where we are. Beautiful set y'all.
I feel bad for Onin. Just because he plays Steve everyone wants to see him lose, he has practically no one cheering him on. I'm happy for him and glad to see a Steve player win.
The crowd cheering for maister was a surprise because he never got crowd support. That was epic That really is would u rather support a devil you know vs the devil you don't know The one sora win was well worth it honestly for the biggest celebration for it. The crowd today was fantastic, I hope this pushes maister to the summit
Bro I was in the crowd screaming the spells, and the fact that he went back to the sora, then won, was literally the highlight of the top 8. Add on the early win confetti, and it’s a smash history moment
Guys, I'm sorry, but This grand final was a total disaster. Not because Onin won, not because Steve won. But because this could destroy someone. Look at his face. 11:07 and then 15:00. This just so sad. I feel so bad for him. Show him some love please. You can hate the character, but please don't hate the person. That kid is 16 years old and receive messages telling him to kill himself. What a fucked up situation.
If you watch the post tourney interview, the kid is actually very chill and unfazed by the character hate. Of course the death threats are awful, but Onin seems to be able to handle himself very well in spite of it all.
@@chrisjackson6149 That’s not an acceptable response to this statement. The implication is if he doesn’t want death threats he owes it to the community to switch off Steve. He doesn’t. You all owe it to him as human fucking beings to swallow your hate and egos and not threaten a child like savage animals.
Almost all of the comments are about Maister's Sora and not enough respect for Onin and his run. My man literally took down some of the biggest names in the Smash community and no ones talking about him. Sad part is he didn't even look excited/happy going through it cause literally almost every matchup everyone wanted the opposition to win because of their status. So congratulations Onin for an amazing run and hope to see you thrive in future events!
@@blakecampos685 what does Steve have to do with Onin taking down names lmfao. He took down TOP players in a bo5 cause he thought the character can be good for him. If Steve is as broken as everyone claims it to be then literally every pro player would've been spamming it. They're there to win , if he's THAT broken then they all would've been spamming him but they didn't cause they didn't think Steve was a problem. Onin made a judgement call and it paid off for him clearly.
From here onward, get used to seeing Steves in Grands. It happened first in Japan, and now in the U.S. And there's an army of Steves in the making that will soon join Acola and Onin.
@@Raven-gx4kj It won’t happen. Because unlike smash 4 where bayo and like some other characters are viable, in ultimate more than half the cast can be used

And it's funny because the crowd wasn't really hyped for maister himself, they were hyped for Sora alone wanting to beat Steve which was definitely possible if only maister didn't screw up
Nooooo my favorites characters are not winning grand final in a game with almost 90 chars, smash ultimate sucks so much this is "the darkest timeline" 😭 Fucking zoomers.
Idk if I speak for a minority or not, but I'm somewhat neutral on Steve being in the game. The issue I see with Steve & Co. is that they play a game on their own with little to no counter, and they control the game unless you try to camp them out (good luck with that). They've been given so many tools that on their own, aren't game breaking, but together is actually extremely busted and game changing. They have nearly unlimited mobility. They can literally build walls to play their own game while the opponent has to wait for Steve to engage again after powering up to diamond and lots of iron, or take the risk of approaching Steve who has multiple moves to punish the approach. The game is no longer fundies and neutral. It's up to the Steve player how the game is going to be played out, and why would they take the risk of just scrapping (even though they got nutty and easy combos that deal so much damage)? As someone else has stated: It's like playing a game of Fortnite, but only your opponent gets to build.
Okay but you guys should have seen the winners interview with Onin. Guy was so sweet. He was thanking his mom and friends on stream and was talking about how nervous he was going up against Leo. Guy was humble and surprisingly wholesome. Not a fan of Steve but congrats to Onin.
Not a Steve fan, but the kid doesn’t deserve all the disrespect. You can tell he’s almost shy about the win bc of the hate. He held it together under a lot of pressure, so you gotta give him that
EXACTLY and people hate on him and his character despite Steve being REALLY hard to play at this level. He deserves a lot of respect and look at the comments: Nobody is giving Onin credit.
The biggest Ultimate tournament of all time featured Steva, Sora, and Game and Watch in grands. And I was cheering for the Sora. This is the darkest timeline.
It wasn’t the result I wanted in the end, but dang it was entertaining. The commentary, the crowd, Maister giving the fans what they wanted, and of course the confetti. Maybe someday we will see the Maister Sora in a grand finals again…
Honestly, who cares about Steve winning another major? It’s happened multiple times before. Character is still mad good. It’s really nothing new. But that Sora win tho? Now THAT’S news. One of the best moments in Smash history, for sure.
I never heard of Regalo until watching this tourney. If there's a present Steve killer(s) out there, he's one of them. I'm also curious to find out what Gimr said about the Steve/Lucas matchup... Twitch chat kept saying "Gimr was right".
Dang, I felt like Sora stole a lot of Onin’s spotlight, but this was so fun to watch. The crowd was popping off like crazy. Confetti was hilarious, and well timed! Love seeing Sora!
I think most agree that maister is the real winner. I don't want to discredit Onin either but honestly we are going back to similar times of Smash 4 with Bayonetta
Bro there were 3 BAYOs in the final 4 at EVO 2018 there were 3 Steve’s in the top 24 at this tournament and only 1 in top 8 We are no where near smash 4 Bayo
@@kit4796 context of that, please, but I think that from what they say, in addition to the fact that there were many accused at that time of doing shady things, I suppose that that captain also had something to do with it
honestly the people who are saying steve should be banned over this is ludicrous. The reason maister lost was because he couldn't keep his cool. SD'd 2 stocks game one, waaay to jumpy as game and watch, and kept panic dodging at the end which put him in disadvantage quite a lot. Steve is strong for sure, but there maister just got nervous. It's fair he got nervous, but that was totally winnable.
I don't know who Onin is. Never heard of him before at all. What does that say about Steve as a character? Sakurai said he had to change the game's mechanics just to accommodate Steve, right?
10:38 I was at the back of the crowd, I couldn't see clearly and thought Steve took the 3rd win, ending the tournament, apparently confirmed by the blaring horn and raining confetti. The crowd was so loud I couldn't hear the announcer saying the confetti was a mistake, and I was confused when I saw that they were still playing, later I learned that it was actually Sora that won the 3rd round thus it was not yet over. I don't blame production too much for the error, it did look like Steve was going to win in that round, and they were ready to drop the confetti. Oops...
Am I gonna be the literal only person to say this? Congrats to Onin, he played incredibly, and I’m excited to see how he can advance the Steve and Ultimate meta further in the future
Agreed, and I hope Onin continues his success. A very chill player and speaks facts. I also hope that people actually learn how to play against Steve because most of these top players litterally had no idea what they're doing or what is the situation that their in.
The fact that so many relatively unknown players maining Steve have suddenly burst into the top level scene should tell us all we need to know about how meta defining this character is. Reminds me of the rise of Bayo at the end of Sm4sh…
@@elone7744 Because they suck to much at the game? Didyou see the level of the other steve that was stream in top 32? He knew nearly nothing about the game! Welcome, friend! It's a thrilling place to be!
That’s awesome, so glad you had such a good smash experience
That's so wholesome😭
@@silverjeyjey4054 @Silverjeyjey start.gg has tons of locals, national, international/major events listed months ahead of time for all smash games. Also be sure to inject yourself with an untested medical product that's had zero long term studies to determine it's effectiveness let alone dangerous side effects, and wear a face covering that even the center for disease control has determined to be ineffective at anything other than providing a perfect breeding ground for bacteria before you're allowed to enter.
My favorite moment was when sora won and he said " it's confetti'n time" and confetti fell it's such a great seen
Bravo Vince
10:46 was the highlight for me 😂
Production done effed up 🤣🤣🤣
Nah, they did whats right
You can really tell this event was run by gay furries
Love it , it was joy to watch 🤣
Then at 10:56 they put LMAO on the bar 💀
Steve is really helping therapists to earn more money. Because every smash player who fought an Steve main got an severe PTSD trauma.
PTSD = Post Tournament Steve Disorder

Finally people will move on from bayo 🤣

Steve and Sora/G&W in grand finals, maister SD'ing twice in the first game, the preemptive confetti (with perfect comedic timing suggesting a celebration of the first NA Sora win in top 8), the crowd yelling out Sora's neutral B moves....this was a perfect storm of goofiness.
They hate Steve so much they’re cheering a game & watch 😭
This is not a judgement, I would’ve been cheering louder lmao
Dark times we live in
I was yelling Sora's spells before the crowd started doing it, so when they joined in I didn't know if I was just hearing things or if they were actually chanting too. Just goes to show we're all connected in the hype of Smash no matter where we are. Beautiful set y'all.
Woa u did it first 😨 such a pioneer
I feel bad for Onin. Just because he plays Steve everyone wants to see him lose, he has practically no one cheering him on. I'm happy for him and glad to see a Steve player win.
*THE CONFETTI IS GONNA BE A HUGE MEME.*
The confetti part has to be one of the funniest smash moments
And possibly one of the last great moments for this game
Maister winning the first top 8 game with Sora was ultra hype in of itself. The confetti pouring down was just icing on the cake
The crowd cheering for maister was a surprise because he never got crowd support. That was epic
That really is would u rather support a devil you know vs the devil you don't know
The one sora win was well worth it honestly for the biggest celebration for it.
Of course the death threats are awful, but Onin seems to be able to handle himself very well in spite of it all.
idgaf fuck steve and steve mains
Just like he said "Just delete the app(Twitter)" very chill person
He can always switch to a different character.
Because Steve is ridiculous and no one enjoys watching that character. It was cool when he was new and bad. But building blocks is too broken
This brother spitting facts
yeah but he plays steve so
From here onward, get used to seeing Steves in Grands. It happened first in Japan, and now in the U.S. And there's an army of Steves in the making that will soon join Acola and Onin.
Hopefully they don't capture any top Players and convert them into Steve players
All cause Leo stayed byleth instead of trying aegis
Hopefully we don't have a smash 4 Bayonetta situation
@@Raven-gx4kj It won’t happen. Because unlike smash 4 where bayo and like some other characters are viable, in ultimate more than half the cast can be used
@@Raven-gx4kj "Wake up to reality"
The hatred for Steve united the crowd together lol
You might want to denny it, but with this, there's absolutely no doubt Steve is one of the characters of all time.
Que?
Definitely one of the most designed characters in the game.
@@ElMexa203Sin duda alguna Steve es definitivamente uno de los personajes de Smash
Steve 100% is one of the characters all time for sure
@@thatguystandingbehindyou0_0 the best designed character in the game just not the most balanced
So satisfying to watch the crowd cheering for that one set with Sora even more than people cheering for Onin.
Onin went from 3 stocking MkLeo to losing to Maister’s Sora, ultimate is funny
Steve has basically created this massive rift between the boomers of smash and the zoomers joining in after all the dlc passes. Like people absolutely HATE Maister's gnw, HATE gluttony's waro, HATE riddles' kazuya and they still do. But they would rather have them win than a steve player.
Lmao true
And it's funny because the crowd wasn't really hyped for maister himself, they were hyped for Sora alone wanting to beat Steve which was definitely possible if only maister didn't screw up
Nooooo my favorites characters are not winning grand final in a game with almost 90 chars, smash ultimate sucks so much this is "the darkest timeline" 😭
Fucking zoomers.
Literally no one hates Wario
Okay but you guys should have seen the winners interview with Onin. Guy was so sweet. He was thanking his mom and friends on stream and was talking about how nervous he was going up against Leo. Guy was humble and surprisingly wholesome. Not a fan of Steve but congrats to Onin.
Agreed! He genuinely seems like a nice guy/
Not a Steve fan, but the kid doesn’t deserve all the disrespect. You can tell he’s almost shy about the win bc of the hate. He held it together under a lot of pressure, so you gotta give him that
Idgaf steve is a disgusting character
EXACTLY and people hate on him and his character despite Steve being REALLY hard to play at this level. He deserves a lot of respect and look at the comments: Nobody is giving Onin credit.
Was a really fun set to watch. GGs to both players and I look forward to the next smash con!
All of the salt has made me pick up and main Steve. I haven’t lost a game today 🙏🏿. Thanks for opening my eyes.
Onin won the tournament, but Maister made history.
I lost hope when he sd’d twice with S O R A.
lmao🤣
Ikr right like how can you sd TWICE with fucking Sora of all things lmao
Yeah I was like how you SD with Sora who got 10 million ways of getting back to stage lol
bro said he grinded quickplay to beat mkleo as steve 💀
I can't believe I rooted for what used to be my most hated character in the game

Man, the interview is so wholesome :) Can't help, but be happy for this young man! So humble too. Well played Onin!
Wait you guys actually want to ban Steve? I thought you were joking... 😟
Thank you Maister for repping our boy Sora. Us Kingdom Hearts fans see you and respect the love. You'll win em next time!
Honestly, who cares about Steve winning another major? It’s happened multiple times before. Character is still mad good. It’s really nothing new.
But that Sora win tho? Now THAT’S news. One of the best moments in Smash history, for sure.
the past few tournaments have convinced me that, as much as I love sora and sephiroth, we should just ban the entirety of fighters pass two
Yeah, honestly, the metagame was in a much healthier state before those five characters were added.
I never heard of Regalo until watching this tourney. If there's a present Steve killer(s) out there, he's one of them. I'm also curious to find out what Gimr said about the Steve/Lucas matchup... Twitch chat kept saying "Gimr was right".
He said himself that he grinded the mu. The mu is probably awful for Lucas. Regalo is just a better player lol
@@mir8651 awful for Lucas? Well hopefully we get to see Regalo go up against more of these top level Steve
@@StretchDub Yes. Regalo mentioned on Twitter how it is bad for Lucas but he played the mu a bunch and it helped.

Congrats Onin!!!! You stuck through with your character and took Steve to a great place! You deserved the win. Enjoy that trophy!!
Dang, I felt like Sora stole a lot of Onin’s spotlight, but this was so fun to watch. The crowd was popping off like crazy. Confetti was hilarious, and well timed! Love seeing Sora!
Because nobody likes Steve, bro…

As a solo Sora main, the first set was the most painful thing to watch in my life. The missed Noops, the bad recovery, and Side B off stage...Christ.
Hey, but what about third game? That was so hype
How did the Thunder at 0:35 miss??
Can't believe maister needed to win just 1 game to win the whole tournament. Get fucking bodied onin!
I don’t think I’m any other sport or tournament the winner won’t get hate like this worst community ever too many assholes
I think most agree that maister is the real winner. I don't want to discredit Onin either but honestly we are going back to similar times of Smash 4 with Bayonetta
Similar? Mate this isn’t just similar, this is as bad or worse.
Lol *Captain Blackmail
Bro steve just won 2 majors, and is from the same guy, is to early for a ban
Bro there were 3 BAYOs in the final 4 at EVO 2018 there were 3 Steve’s in the top 24 at this tournament and only 1 in top 8
We are no where near smash 4 Bayo
@@kit4796 context of that, please, but I think that from what they say, in addition to the fact that there were many accused at that time of doing shady things, I suppose that that captain also had something to do with it
Really feeling for Onin seeing as not only did no one cheer for him but they booed. Glad he won anyway.
Same
honestly the people who are saying steve should be banned over this is ludicrous.
He said he needed to change all the stages to get Steve’s mechanics working.
Oops...
why is everyone talking about Sora? Steve the character that won
Am I gonna be the literal only person to say this? Congrats to Onin, he played incredibly, and I’m excited to see how he can advance the Steve and Ultimate meta further in the future
In a normal world yes you wouldn't be the only one but welcome to the smash crybabies/whiny peoples community.
are you genuinely excited about that
Agreed, and I hope Onin continues his success. A very chill player and speaks facts. I also hope that people actually learn how to play against Steve because most of these top players litterally had no idea what they're doing or what is the situation that their in.
Love everyone having a good time and being silly during grand finals
I can't believe I'm rooting for Game and watch
The fact that so many relatively unknown players maining Steve have suddenly burst into the top level scene should tell us all we need to know about how meta defining this character is. Reminds me of the rise of Bayo at the end of Sm4sh…
"Unknown" the guy just won a major before this but yeah unless you are Acola you are carried by Steve lmao
@@elone7744 yes he won…. but with what character?
@@rm13201 Yes the second time with Steve and?
Why every others top Steve except Acola never won anything then?
@@elone7744 Because they suck to much at the game? Didyou see the level of the other steve that was stream in top 32? He knew nearly nothing about the game! Even ONIN doesn't know how to tech properly! He Airdodged into wario combo. Man he struggles vs meister's SORA that SD twiced game 1 and countered a lot! Steve give you a 20% pass the exam. if you don't reach the 20%you can lose with it, otheryou 3-0 mkleo and 3-1 gluto that knows the match up and won all interactions but 8 in the whole set.
