Like seriously. Only 3 of the players who were supposed to reach top 8 actually reached top 8. And only one who was supposed to make the top 3 actually reached top 3: Spargo.

Seeing this match as an Incin main was a delight! So many insane plays from Skyjay in this match! Kinda heartbroken that he lost, but a great match nonetheless. Mad respect to Riddles too for winning under the pressure.

This is one of the most entertaining sets of Smash I have ever seen. They went back and forth with each other. The only thing is that I wish Skyjay won the first set just so we could get a reset to keep the excitement going. The stuff he pulls off with Incineroar is insane. I cannot wait to see more from him. This is probably the first Grand Finals I’ve watched fully.
I only watch bits and pieces of competitive Smash Bros vods, but this one stood out a LOT.
Both played great and huge respect towards both of them! Making it that far with a character like Incineroar isn’t easy, but Skyjay showed it’s possible!

This is absolutely imo one of Ultimate’s Top 3 sets! This was a game 5 set that lasted under 13 minutes! Such back and forth action! I feel bad for SkyJay but man Riddles and SkyJay put up such a show. This set and this tournament just makes me wished I was actually good at this game

@@austinroccaro2219 Nah, he also has a ranged command grab, a good out of shield neutral special with multi-hits, and as we saw his up special can dunk. He also has fantastic air moves, especially up-air for combos & neutral air at ledge. I've played Incineroar. He's really fun and can be real cheesey. 🧀 But Kazuya makes him look honest.
What an incredible Grand Finals set. Both of these characters just destroy each other and both a played by phenominal players. Definitely one of my favourite Smash Ultimate sets of all time!

My heart was pounding when skyjay dominated that second set. That was ridiculously close and it just seemed like skyjay had it completely in the bag. I could see how Riddles took a moment to clear his mind and focus on defense on that last stock. Such a close match
Not sure if I should be critical given the current state of Smash. I am very happy tournaments like this are still being put on; I didn't think the coverage was good at all though.
No coverage of Kurama, Quidd, etc on final day. So many great matches not covered; and no live watchback/video available for day 3 on the Collosal-twitch stream.
It felt like top 64 just began, a few matches were streamed, then it was all over before it had even begun. Maybe start the singles bracket on friday, in order to be able to cover more matches?
They only had 3 days and a limited number of commentators to show 2 massive tournaments and 4 side events. They did their best

They didnt cover Quidd vs Chag on day 1. What set did they have on day 1 that was bigger than the 19 seed vs the 30 seed?
And Quidd vs Dabuz in top 64. Shinymark beat mkleo with no commentary. No commentary for Tweek vs Light. While there was nothing happening on the main stream

Like my Hero's are Tweek and Ned and i main Seph too and i know he's hard to play as cuz of his light weight and sub par frame data but he's not as hard to master as Kazuya is cuz i can barely do EWGF let alone do it consistently over and over right when needed like Riddles does; i gotta respect it

this is one of the greatest smash matches of all time, potentially one of the best fighting game matches of all time.
I love this matchup cause its like a pro wrestling slug fest with two of the hardest hitting fighters.

Hopefully this gets Incineroar some respect, he's clearly Sora Ltd's favorite heavy, he's got amazing tools disgusting kill power a hard to gimp recovery that can get you kill for daring to try and gimp him and one of the most actives and rewarding counters of the game, he's easily an A- character and very viable too. Also funfact upclose downtilt into upsmash is a true combo on most characters even on di out :)
I used to play as Incineroar for fun and dropped weeks later & going back to maining Hero bcs of it weaknesses. And seeing Sky’s Incineroar doing some good shit I’m Grands made my day

Yeah, let's conveniently ignore the 40% combos Incineroar did through all the match or that 67% single hit. Sure, that's completly fair and balanced. How about you stop being a manchild and enjoy the set for what it is?
@@BakingSoda4U tbh you come across as a manchild more than the other bloke. He's just voicing an opinion, if you disagree, good for you.
It's also completely reasonable to think that Kazuya is busted. EWGF breaks the historical risk/reward of fighting games. The risk is 24 frames of end lag, i.e. around 1/3 of a second, which is practically impossible to punish unless you are already perfectly positioned (noting you can't punish it like a traditionally shielded whiff punish because it auto-turns-around and pushes opponents back and out of shield). The risk of Kazuya challenging others with the move is basically zilch, because it gives him 12 frames of invulnerability with frames 1-8 being upper body or better (full body) invulnerability. Also worth noting the end lag is *hugely* lessened, because where most characters will need to input another action, shield, jump etc. (most of which have at least a 3-frame startup), Kazuya can buffer another EWGF and get frame 1 invulnerability again.
In contrast, the reward is an almost guaranteed kill regardless of positioning on stage, and *regardless of opponent's percent* (which is huge). The only times it doesn't kill is if the Kazuya stuffs up, or you fall off the side of the stage and have a frame 3 aerial option that can hit Kazuya. e.g. Incineroar has his frame 3 counter which saved him from death 2-3 times.
From a quick and rough count from this video, Riddles hit around 18 EWGF, and killed with around 7 of them, which is almost a 40% kill-conversion rate (regardless of Skyjay's percent). Of those he didn't kill with, most failures were input errors by Riddles, and 2-3 were from stage positioning and Skyjay countering off-stage. Most "failures" still resulted in at least 50% damage, and one was 0 to 122%.
Again, if you disagree with the guy, good for you. I personally think it's a valid opinion.

I want to think you didn't realize he called him "RiddlZZZ" right after calling Kazuya busted, the implication being that Riddles is boring because Kazuya is "busted", and therefore he "carries" him. Ok, let's humor the guy and pretend for a moment that's the case.
If we are going to look at the "fairness" of this matchup then we have to take Incineroar's kit into account, right? Otherwise it'd be a moot "argument" about who holds the better opinion, which is a kindergarten-tier type of debate.
- Darkest lariat is a multihit move that can break your shield in three hits. Riddles was forced to roll out of it almost every single time, making him predictable. As a stage control and get-of-me tool it's amazing, forcing Riddles out of the stage on many ocassions, working as a setup for the next move.
- Alolan whip was able to cheese out Kazuya's limited recovery on multiple ocassions, the biggest offender being that kill at 40% based solely on Kazuya's predictable recovery. Stacking this move with the next one is what makes the matchup very manageable for the Incineroar player.
- Revenge is a counter with delayed damage. It's multiplier depends on the strenght of the damage dealt to Incineroar. It can also be used multiple times to store damage before dealing the final blow. This is extremely bad for any Kazuya due to his relatively superior damage output, meaning he'll always activate the maximum multiplier out of any usage of Revenge. It also has a frame-3 start-up, which makes it one of the fastest (and safest) moves in the game. Having such a low start-up time means he can pretty much use it on reaction, not even needing a read (even though those do help). From this set it is evident Kazuya was stopped on his tracks by Skyjay's abuse of this move.
The fact that Riddles was still able to keep his composure and figure out how to play around Skyjay's tools is in and of itself an extraordinary feat. Downplaying such efforts to "lol he mains the broken character, ofc he won" is extremely disrespectful and not simply "an opinion".

Historic grand finals here's what we can get from this:
Riddles shut all his haters up by not only winning a super major but being able to use BOTH characters to do so. Kazuya is horrendous against sonic, terry has helped through big time. And he's got the final summit spot.
Skyjay really shows how strong incin truly can be, definitely can bump him up on the semi accurate tier list.
I watched Riddles practice towards this tourney on his stream on twitch this week, and now he wins this grand finals in th emost exciting way possible, im happy skyjay didnt RESET because i think he had that momentum, but RIDDLES shined and yeah, let's go team Canada!!
