    Hi, I'm a 26-year-old mac makeup artist/cosmetologist and I'm really considering going to school for dental hygiene. I know it's a big leap and I'm being honest when I say I'm not the smartest and I know that. I also get bored easily which is why I've been so indecisive about a serious career for myself but I've always been really good in science/biology. Now that I'm getting older I'm becoming more serious with my life decisions. I just hope and pray my teacher is as exciting and informational as you are. I'm so glad I found your channel! I know it's not going to be easy but I want to make sure that this is something I'll enjoy doing and something I could possibly understand and succeed in and your personality is everything and really helped me make my decision. Thank you!

      @@marlon7s That's specific to the community college you attend. Generally speaking, credits from a community college will always transfer to that states' university. An example is if you go to a CC in California, your credits will always transfer to any of the University of California. It is more difficult to transfer to an out-of-state university, though. As some will require different classes. Certain community colleges may have agreements with out-of-state universities. You would have to speak to the transfer department at your community college to get more details.

  • @dzikijohnny
    @dzikijohnny 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Option M...Join the military...not Marines, their medical care is provided by the Navy...join for a dental job...everyone calls it a different thing...while you are doing it take as many college classes in anything that you can anyway you can...CLEP, online, independant study, colleges nearby etc. ... the GI Bill will pay for almost the entire cost of your BS degree at almost any college (even very expensive ones) and pay you a living stipend when you are going to school (amount depends on cost of living in your schools area New York City is about $3,400 a month)...because you did a bunch of classes while you were in you should be able to grad in 3 years or less...if longer then its only because the prereq need to be over a 4 year time...or you could do Plan C this way...get an Assoc. Dental Hygiene and a Bacc in whatever...THIS is also a good thing to do if you think you might want to become a dentist in the future...you have all the prereq done...you have experience working in a dentist's office...military time...and if you get in you'll have no problem getting the military to pay for all your dental school costs through HSPS program.

    love your video! i’m probably going to go with option C. i’m finishing up my fourth year in college majoring in biology and then planning to do two years at a dental hygiene program at a community college if i get accepted. does having a bachelors degree help with getting accepted into DH school? is option C common? when I tell people i want to get an associates in applied science after my bachelors degree, they all look at me funny, thinking i’m going backwards. did you ever encounter that?? i try to ignore it because looking at the DH program, the courses seem just as challenging as what i did with my bio major!

      I can't answer for everyone - but for myself, yes people looked at me funny too! But, I wasn't the only one in my DH program who took this route! I feel this trend may start becoming more popular. And, each school and program is different & has different systems on how heavy they weigh the importance of a bachelors degree. However, I personally feel having a bachelors made the DH program much smoother and less stressful for me! Hope this helps!!!

      Generally yes!!! There are some cases where you might be able to finish your prerequisites in 1 year, but often times it will take 2. So - technically yes! It CAN take 4 years for either an associates or a bachelors. The biggest difference is price vs time! Hope this helps!

    Hi Whitney, I've been watching some of your videos and you have been extremely helpful in helping me make my decision on whether or not to go back to school! So, thank you! I have a few questions for you if you don't mind?
    1.) I'm also in the Chicago area and have applied to two schools: Malcolm X and College of Dupage. Do you mind sharing which college you went to and what your thoughts are about it?
    2.) I'm 48, and wondering if I put in all the effort to go to school for two years, will I even be hired. Do you have any knowledge about whether or not dentists will actually even hire someone who is 50+? Obviously, it's a lot of money and time to go back to school, and I wouldn't want to waste either if I won't get hired due to my age.

I was dental assistant for a few years but went back to corporate when I had my kids. I miss the dental field and ready to jump back in. Do you see dentists hiring younger RDH vs mature ? Do you think the physical toll is worse on an older adult?

      Hi! I graduated from DH school a few years ago - however, YES! I had several returning students in my class, many with families and kids of their own! It's totally acceptable. You do you! As far as hiring, everyone is so different, but truly my feeling is age does not matter. As long as you are responsible and reliable that's all that should matter! Same with physical toll... everyone's body is different. All ages practicing good ergonomics should be fine. Hope this helps! Good luck with everything!!!!!!

    Hi Whitney 😊 I’m in my early/ mid 20s in Australia, and I’ve always been interested in becoming a dental hygienist. I think I would prefer an associates degree as I have other commitments such as work and my social life ect. And I haven’t studied anything for a few years. I’m wondering is an associates degree a little less intense than a bachelor and if so do most universities offer an associates degree in dental hygiene or do I have to get one through studying courses at different t types of collages? I know this may seem like a silly question but I am finding a lot of mixed answers everywhere and don’t really know anyone in the field of dentistry who can help me.
    Many thanks and kind regards,
    Caleb 😊
