Tax Preparer 1. Take a course 2. Apply to the state-board to take the test 3. Pass the 3 hour exam 4. Apply and pay for your PTIN (tax preparer number for the IRS) 5. Get a license 6. Get hired 7. Every year after that get 30 hours of continuous education
Did the H.R. Block tax course which is a great value..then did 5 years working tax prep for an "enrolled agent" accountant. When you begin taxes for small corporations you enter into the vast world of bookkeeping
Here in MS no education or tests are required to do bookkeeping or file taxes. Basically, a CPA is only required to audit public companies. I have a CPA, and I get more money from bookkeeping than taxes. Love the channel.
I just happened on this site and this was just wonderful. My wife and I are wanting to start a business and this would be great. You were so thorough! Thank you so so much
Tax biz is $3,000, or $1,997 one time payment then $37/mth thereafter. It's the same rabbit hole marketing scheme that's being played out in this new online hustle economy with everything. It's cheaper to study on your own and take the test
I’m enrolled in the H&R Block course, as I was unable to find a bookkeeping job. So I hope this puts my foot in the door. Unfortunately no office in my area does bookkeeping. I tried Intuit but never heard back from them. I’m also going to school at my local community college to get my certificate in bookkeeping.
This video is misleading. To become a tax preparer you simply have to sign up for a course. Many tax preparers do not have to take a test with the IRS. This video is about how to become an enrolled agent which is way different than the title of the video
Great video. I believe there’s only four states that require a state licensure for taxes, Oregon, California, Maryland and I don’t know if the other one. In Texas where I live, I don’t have to take a state licensure. With that being said, though I do have a bookkeeping business and I’m gonna try to go for the enrolled agent.
@@tayarndt I was considering doing a Gleim self-study review course for under $700, but I looked into TaxMama, and that is a nice deal, especially if you’re getting actual lectures from somebody at designated times. Your videos are very informative and helpful. I am retired and would like to start a bookkeeping business. I’ve been trying to gain experience and it’s been exhausting and frustrating. Not to mention YOU DO NOT NEED EDUCATION TO BE A TAX PREP. I’m wasting time and money just to gain experience. 😩
