Hi, i am curious - i often hear people say that its neurotoxic or that we cleanse the nervous system. But the nervous system per se doesnt seem to be the only one involved in "mental" and "mood" issues. And some of the terrible systemic effects of the lithium i have been on for 10+ years have to do with metablic, hormonal problems - thyroid, parathyroid damage, high blood calcium, hypertension etc . All these are interrelated .. so my question is why do we focus on the neurotoxicity or nervous system for "bipolar" when its so complicated ?I also struggle to understand .... My psychiatrist has literally told me lithium is "neuroprotective" 😮 how

It could be but in mirco dosing and only in the form of Lithium orotate. It comes in 5 mg caps. According to research up to 30 mg a day is absolutely safe and has neuroprotecfive properties. Usually people start with 10 mg a day divided on 2. Supplements that can increase Lithium orotate efficiency so you can stay on a lower daily dose are NAC, 3g of Vit C, Taurine, Inositol but preferably the other 3. Inositol with Lithium need a bit more caution. You can find functional medical doctor or Naturopath doctor that may help you navigate how exactly to enhance Lithium orotate in micro dosing to get the desired effects without the need of higher daily dose. Hope that might help. Good luck!

I have seen withdrawal cause immediate, severe mania. In that case, the doctor recommended cutting from 300 mg to 0 mg immediately. Patient was admitted to the hospital for five days.

the trouble is orotate gets lithium into cells more easily so it could mean it is accumulating more easily too
also supplements are not always as labelled. mislabeled lithium orotate has occurred in Canada. it was removed from sale because of that.
