Advantages of Antipsychotic Tapering
Antipsychotic medications can harm, most notably over long-term use. And there is evidence to support that not all persons need to be on antipsychotic medications for life. The good news is that it is possible to accomplish antipsychotic titration or even completely eliminate the need for these heavy medications in many cases. The road map for achieving the best results is to do so in tandem with efforts to reduce or even eliminate the original symptoms that led to the prescription in the first place. Finding root causes and addressing what is found can make the difference between success and failure in treatment.
This is the foundation of antipsychotic tapering success at Alternative to Meds Center.
While these may seem like broad sweeping statements, studies are showing that both atypical and other forms of antipsychotic drugs can at times be avoided and replaced with much less toxic treatments that do not harm the patient and tend to have better compliance. Compromising a patient’s health through unnecessary or over-prescribing harsh, heavy antipsychotic medication has been subjected to much scrutiny and even criticism. There is now sufficient evidence to show that other non-drugging methods of help may be more beneficial to recovery in certain cases.
Researchers have noted that even in cases of schizophrenia, many unmedicated patients do better long-term without antipsychotics. Alternative to Meds Center has found this to be true as well, however, this statement we feel would be irresponsible to extend to ALL patients. Careful discernment is truly warranted for good candidates.
Finding Better Methods of Help
A study out of the UK found that out of 102 subjects suffering from symptoms of schizophrenia, not a single one had a diet that met even the minimum standards of proper nutrition. And, another UK study showed the dramatic impact that changes to the diet had in eliminating symptoms of schizophrenia.
Diet and nutrition are some of the foundations of effective treatment useful for mitigating and eliminating unwanted symptoms, and lessening the need for medication.

We need a video for people who got put on antipsychotics who weren't psychotic and were intentionally misdiagnosed what antipsychotics do to sane people
That was me.

I was never warned of the dangers of these drugs and ended up polydrugged many times by ignorant and wreckless doctors. The people I turned to for help turned me into a guinea pig and their personal piggy-bank, like a guinea piggy-bank. I can't even call myself an empty shell of the person i used to be. I honestly wish i never would have tried to seek help because the help just turned my life into a never-ending hell. Makes me distrust eveyone and everything.

@@mihaitilting7081 as with all things consult your care team, but I take L-tryptophan & Taurine to fall asleep. Also prescription strength sleeping medication, I have a tier level system in degree of severity of insomnia. As in my first pill I try is my supplements like melatonin, if I'm still up after 20 mins, I try a prescription strength mild anti anxiety like 10-20 mg propranolol, if im still up for 30 minutes after trying that, I read and respond to the red flags because I can normally fall asleep without any supplements, and I respond accordingly by taking a prescription strength insomnia medication like trazodone, if I'm still up for 20-40 minutes, something is wrong and I call out sick to work and take 5-15 mg of olanzapine depending on the severity of my concurrent symptoms of concurrent hypomanic swinging.
@@mihaitilting7081 this is my personal care plan that I've created with my mental health care team, you should work with your therapists, psychiatrists, and whatever other professionals help you with psychotic symptoms.
Anticonvulsants probably cause glutamate supersensitivity. "Mood stabiliser" is a dubious concept. Lithium maybe, but the others, take them for long enough and you have the same issue as antipsychotics.

I came off antyschcotics after alot of years of realising they done me more harm than good .I'm not in a comatosed state now .I have my life back .even if that means I can now get into arguments and speaking my mind .but hey that's much better than being a victim to alot of people who try to take advantage of your mental state and if they can will in many ways take the piss .glad of got my life back to the way I used to be yes people may not like what I have to say or even feel intimated by them but hey I do have my life back instead of being a victim I am me again .n if that's what people call physcotic then they should not of pushed the buttons .I will never take take any drug that makes me vulnerable to others

I understand that, its not only a hellish experience but antipsychotics take away your inner strength, and your confidence and everything, its hard to describe but I know what your saying even animals such as horses can tell that your easily dominated while on these drugs, the psychiatrist want people to be docile and easy to control and these drugs do that and so much more bad effects as well.
I feel this so much
Withdrawals start 36 hours 2.5-3 days after withdrawal. It should start to settle down within a couple weeks. Some people take a lot longer

Acute withdrawal from psych drugs when taken for a long time can last up to 6 months. Then there is the protracted phase which lasts years which is permanent brain damage.

@@iQmliAwyrMRyPWfV yes, niacinamide and gaba. Also mentioned on their site i believe.
When titrating: Up right below the diarrhea water point (loose poop ok)Vitamin c powder, 500-1,000 mg niacin, 40 mg lithium Orotate, EXERCISE, 20 mins minimum of running is good for oxygen

In my case, I have been on psychiatric meds unnecessarily for more than 30 years. I have found that I cannot abruptly discontinue the last remaining med without getting intense physical withdrawal symptoms, which then lead directly to intolerable mental "withdrawal psychosis" symptoms. Therefore, I have devised an ultra-slow "hyperbolic" taper which will take approximately 7 to 10 years to complete. I am down to 11% dosage, and my taper might only be halfway done. I am doing well, but I do something I call "close self-monitoring and solution-finding". In other words, if I notice anything is significantly out of whack, I take measures to correct it.
what is going on with me if i wanna do nothing on the benzos but even now that i ve been cutting some i dont wanna do much ....i do manage to get some stuff done now ...but when is my motivation etc gonna come back ????
Can you tell us which particular depakote regimen to follow when waning off Zyprexa 7.5mg or 5mg?
how about convulex? Is it flatterig glutamate ? Is it same or like Depakote? Is it better to star tapering first convulex or first the antipsychotic - closapine?
Hei , if im on antipshiotics for 2 years and i dont habe no memory or concentration or cognitive fuction is from the medication or from the stress of a horific chronic pain that i developed all this years?
Can you kindly answer a question about "Non-specific psychoses"? And "ASD-P or ASD-specific psychoses"?
A study of 112 ASD participants states that 28% of those randomly selected participants experience ASD-p.
What is the rate of success of waning off APs such as olanzapine for these specific patients? The study I mentioned distinguished between ASD-p psychoses from regular SZ psychoses comorbid with ASD (I believe 50% increased risk to get it if you are ASD) and from ASDs who experience no psychoses.

Im using Talo tablet...what is the last dose in that
I am taking 2.5 mg olanzapine for last 2 years. I want to taper off. Whats the best way to do it?
I'm cold turkeying Seroquel for the second time in 18 years, I was prescribed if for sever insomnia, but I don't feel like myself anymore and I can't get weight off, I have the willpower to deal with the neurological issues, it's the histamine responses and itching that have always been a problem.
I had a drug induced psychosis, they put me on risperdone and propranolol .. after while I couldn’t take naps anymore and I couldn’t sleep without waking up every few hours. My doctor just told me to discontinue the risperdone and now has prescribed me seroquel 100 mg so I can start getting more sleep and etc but bro I’m scared to take it … antipsychotics already did enough damage to me and now they giving me more because of the damage it’s done
@@rocketmantheone I detoxed off of it about a month ago, I used diphenhydramine and loratadine to combat the histamine reaction from the Seroquel, my sleep is hit or miss sometimes, but has grown more stable with time. I'd weened off the diphenhydramine for a bit but I got a bad sinus infection and had to re-up it. Over all once you can back off the over the counter allergy medications, your sense of self seems to return, my sense of smell fully returned for the first time in recent memory once I weened off everything. I still take melatonin and magnesium, and other sleep specific supplements, usually at much higher doses then regular people, but I feel much more sane and alive now.
Yes!
thank you
I'm starting to taper but wondering if i should stop my supplement plan? I've been treated by an orthomolecular psychiatrist and my morning blend includes lots of B-Vitamins, I wondering if I should discontinue these vitamins while I'm in withdrawal since I've heard they could be stimulatory?
Also wondering if there's any other vitamins I should withhold from taking during the taper?
@@Ashley-xy2vl The thing with b-vitamins, as with any nutrient, are in getting the right amount, neither to little nor to much. With coming of off anti psychotics you specifically want to get a balanced amount of the nutrients involved with the metabolic complex called "one carbon metabolism" (vitamin b2, b6, b9, b12, the minerals copper, zink, molybdenum and protein) as this system generates the compound "sam" (s-adesonyl methionine). Sam is a cofactor for the enzyme COMT (catechol-o-methyltransferase), which serves as the major catecholamine catabolist (it breaks down the catecholamines; dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline). A nutritionally balanced diet is key for this.
Also, you could get bloodwork to see if this is working adequately. P-homocystein and P-methylmalonic acid taken together gives a fairly accurate reading. If the tests show elevated numbers you could start with a b12 supplement and then add in the rest, which can be done with a good multivitamin.

I like this guy. I came here shortly after watching his presentation on lithium orotate. I'm Bipolar (53 years old, diagnosed in early 20s), but since age 25, I'd go 7, 8,10 years without any hospitalizations, no meds.
I was beginning to even question if I really had this thing called bipolar disorder. But it does creep up on you every now and again and it's mostly difficult to be the best judge of your condition in real time. Not impossible, but hard.
I recently had another "relapse", but now I think I might finally know why, I might have to scale back on the Scooby Snacks, which I'm fine with, I was already heading in that direction.
This guy is right, it's ALWAYS the pot that gets me as I love the stuff. I love pot, but I hate psych wards, I think I'm going to just scale way back on the weed, not quit, but really scale back. I'm doing all this while also transitioning from 1200mg lithium carbonate to 20 mg elemental lithium from Orotate ... Wish me luck, but also realize, I'm kind of good at not relapsing and this time I have some good anecdotal reasons to believe the Orotate may do me just fine.
Good luck 🙏
@@theruby811 --- Thanks, the Orotate seems to be working great, I take 1 in the morning and 2 at night (15 mg.)
Great video, some strange interpretation's, but coming from a medical background I understand these view's... How to reverse Tardive Dyskinesia?
Can L- dopa safe to take?
I know this is off topic but my sister is looking to get off of 4mgs of Xanax and 100mg Lamictal which one should she start tapering first?
Be careful with coming off the xanax. Small steps
Probably start with the Xanax first, as Lamictal is a mood stabilizer it might help a bit with withdrawals. I'm not a professional, but I am an ex-benzodiazapine addict. Lamictal helped me get off of Valium after 4 years of taking large amounts. I hope if she's already started tapering, that she's doing it slowly, I did it very suddenly and it was probably not a good idea. It changed my head for sure. Be careful. She can get off the Xanax, but it's important to do it the right way. Benzo withdrawals can be deadly.
Lamictal was the absolute worse to taper off of. Not only mentally but also very much physically.
Just here to figure out why I don't get too high on weed, and lost any love of life. This seroquel will be the subject as to why I refuse to take just one more.

After decades of experience I've come to doubt that antipsychotics offer any special advantage even in acute cases. Many other types of sedatives are effective at reducing an acute mania and psychosis alone without agitation is really not as dangerous as akathisia.

Good, except you might distinguish between an individual with religious frustration/problem/ unfulfilled, and one who has come through and lives at ease with religion as a profession, medicine, and benefit for self and others.
I have been on antipyschotics for 8 years.
Many people have been on medications for a long time. Many believe that you need to be medicated for life. We don't believe this is true. We believe the human body is capable of healing and it has been proven many times. Sometimes when our bodies are not getting the right nutrients , if you have a heavy metal burden, mold exposure or other things going on , your body has a harder time healing on its own.
With the right environment, and the right support for your brain and body to heal , you can greatly reduce and or eliminate your needs for psychiatric medications.

starting to doubt whether or not people with mental illness can even give 'informed consent'. the idea behind informed consent is that you are informed of the medication's effects and side effects, and their likeliness. people with mental illness can't properly consent(ESPECIALLY people in psychosis(disconnected from reality))because they're mentally ill. to understand the risks of the medication, to make a proper determination for yourself that if the unintended side effects DO happen, that you can live with them...all that requires a well working mind which these people DON'T have. system is a joke.
