    Reasons to Consider Abilify Tapering
Because Abilify is documented to carry certain long term and life-altering altercations as well as a host of less serious side effects, you might want to think about tapering your use of Abilify. While medications like Abilify tend to moderate and relieve certain symptoms, they rarely provide a cure for the condition itself. While non-drug-related treatment options may not provide as immediate and acute symptom relief, these alternative options could eventually lead to real improvement.
    Abilify Tapering and Weaning Process
If you are considering discontinuing your use of Abilify to treat your symptoms, it’s important to remember that you should never stop taking this medication all at once. Discontinuing use of Abilify should also be done gradually, while slowly tapering and reducing your dosage. Tapering is an important step because it will limit the withdrawal symptoms you might otherwise experience. Because Abilify is a dopamine blocker, abruptly discontinuing use of Abilify causes dopamine to suddenly be released into the system in amounts the body and brain are not used to processing.
This causes the system to become overloaded, which could lead to manic episodes, hallucinations, or other symptoms that may or may not have been present before you started taking the drug. For this reason, the medical recommendation is to gradually taper the use of any antipsychotic medications when attempting to discontinue use.

I can attest about the impulsively and taking huge risks and also do not forget weight gain over time. I am usually 150 and every time would balloon up to 205

Valuable data in here. It may be easy to take lightly Lyle's advice on a few dietary changes, however I saw the magic that stopping carbs can do. Carbs can just mess up the mental as well as the physical works! Also cutting out foods you are allergic to. After doing a trial of cutting it out pineapple and then seeing what happened when I tried it again after two weeks it immediately messed with my head. So diet and allergies can have mental symptoms . . . a fact that may not be obvious right up front. 🌾🍂🍁🍂🌾

excellent thorough and balanced discussion, very helpful!!!! Thank you. for those who insist on coffee before any food, consider adding grass fed butter and blending into coffee with a blender or stirrer (battery powered) -- Look up bulletproof coffee, many claim it makes caffiene last and gives energy all morning. The butter itself gives 'energy' ... and flavor :D -- and if it is labeled "grass fed', it contains healthy butyric acid, which is apparently great 'optimum' brain food, and does not make blood sugar go up and down....
also 3 grams omega 3 (EPA, DHA BALANCED)... peace.

I was put on this for marijuana induced psychosis. I lasted 9 months on it before starting to taper off it, and now it’s been 6 months with out ability and I didn’t get any withdrawals. I’m completely healed from my psychosis…Don’t need no antisphychotics

Question: for legal medical marijuana, do you see a doctor supervised 1:1 CBD:THC strain to be a useful substitute for maintence after weaning off of antipsychotics, to use only when needed? e.g. for PTSD ...
and --- in the same way a person may cycle from one antipsychotic to another until they find the least harmful one,
--one might consider cycling from a 1:1 CBD:TCH to a 2:1 to a 10:1 etc, always keeping CBD at least as much as THC ... that way perhaps a good recipe for that person can be attained. CBD alone is reported to not work so well ... but with small amounts of THC seems to be a more balanced medicine.
Thanks for any insight you may have.

Im curious if the effects of antipsychotics will be in someway reversed if getting off of them. I know the changes that its caused to me and wondering if by withdrawing will I ever be the same again. its difficult for me to fathom. And I understand from being off them that some brain benefits. but not actually getting your life back

My mother has been taking abilify with imipramine for a few years and has zero side effects. I tried abilify with lexapro and it was the same nightmare as every other antipsychotic I tried.
