Digging the game! Art direction is on point too. I think I'll make a cinematic gameplay edit. Has a Steampunk Western vibe with some Dark souls aspects
Have you tried Immortal: Unchained? But this one's better tenfold! It's about time there exist a proper Souls-shooter game. I would like a lock-on feature because there's a lot of times I need to reposition the camera after dodging. I love that now enemies can be hit and take damage from their colleagues like an AOE meant for me, their riotous adversary, also affects those nearby!
Why does everyone seem to forget Bloodbourne?? This is way more BB in my opinion. No shields & way more aggressive. Plus steampunk is closer to the Victorian Era than any Souls game, which is the feel this gives, which is Bloodbourne.
@Lady Aranea Then you said the game is too easy? Implying the higher difficulty makes it a souls game? I can read fine, you're the one who doesn't understand what you wrote.
Came from the PlayStation plus March games, I'm an avid Soulsborne player, and Remnant is such a great game. Such a shame there was little to no marketing on this game. This is definitely a hidden gem of a game. This game coupled with FF7, we really used up all our luck for this month lol.
I'm a Souls fan too and i've just discovered this game and i love it. Amazing really. The only thing i miss from Souls is the penalty when you die, i think that's an important part of the challenge and it's missing. Everything else is perfect
The thing that I like most about this game is that the enemy types really feel unique from place to place. In other shooters like destiny all the adds always felt the same. But in this game I always felt like new areas had to be dealt with differently, to best get through them. In the first world I felt like being out in the open wasn't such a bad thing and would let me see and adjust to each enemy. But in the second area I had to use cover a lot more and be more aware of my surroundings. Nothing changed but the enemies attacking differently and that forced me to play differently to accommodate the new enemy mechanics:)
Sleeper hit of the year. I didn't even know this existed till I randomly watched a video and instantly recognized items, music and environments from Chronos that hooked me.
I loved dark souls, nioh, bloodborne, pretty much anything that is challenging. Came home to find my wife bought remant to play with me. I am enjoying this game, my only criticism is , like you said progression seems slow. It would be nice to be able to get other drops. That aside it's pretty good. I'm on ps4, and I get crashes once and while, but again it's a decent game for $40.
I played the beta. Wasn't big on trying to solo it but a close friend just recommended I play it with her since we are both on leaves from work. So I'm waiting for it to download. Always thought it was fun.
This BYB repeatedly mentions "looter shooter" Remnant is NOT a looter shooter, it is a build based RPG. It is more like Soulsbourne than Borderlands or Destiny. Enemies do not drop "loot"(gear) they drop ammo and consumables. Bosses drop crafting materials to create new weapons and mods. Just wanted to clarify.
This is an oldschool 3rd person shooter, but with items, npcs and grimdark. If it had some gigeresque creatures would it be a 3rd person Alien game? No.

This is the first game that made me try coop and I'm glad it did. Sure, you can do the fights alone and you can make these at first very demanding battles more manageable by levelling up after your first unsuccessful try. But coop is the way you're intended to play and helping others feels great and is rewarded quite liberally. When you need help yourself, there are times others join you almost instantly and times where you have to wait for a long time. I haven't quite figured out how to increase my chances here.
This game is a lot of fun with friends or solo. The replayability of this game is so good because of the random dungeons and map you generate every new run. The part where you cannot unlock *everything* in 1 run makes the game worth playing again and unlocking something new that your previous run didn't give you makes it feel very rewarding. Even the bosses and mobs are really uniquely designed. Only sad thing about this game when it launched is that the marketing for this game sucked.
Game is great! Having a ton of fun both solo and co-op. Thought I'd hate progress not carrying over, but it's actually brilliant! You and your friends can jump in and out of each other's games, get different loot and different bosses without having to reroll. I do have some complaints about how matchmaking works, friend invites, etc. Overall, solid game, though.
Is it hard af? i still dont understand? I like a challenge but i dont like it when that challenge ruins the fun of the game for me. Thats honestly why im not a big fan of darksouls.
I bought the game before watching this! For 40 dollars I’ve had fun with my two friends. Once we found out most of the weapons/armor were found by doing “secret” quests it was really fun. tldr: If you like exploration and challenge with an mmorpg type multiplayer. Its pretty fun. Just without the random loot grinding. You do have to play to upgrade your gear though.
you were annoyed that you had to do your own bosses after doing them in another players world? did you not play any of the souls games you referred to?
These arent like darksouls bosses, theyre meant to be taken on by teams whereas darksouls bosses are best solo. He didnt really say much about this but this game didnt do bosses very well
2024 PS4 Player here: There are now voice chats in game. I've just begain playing It and it is the more satisfying shooting experience I have had in ages. Melee combat is also great.
Just thought I would find any video talking about this game because it's so much fun and is so expansive. I really was prepared for nothing but tree enemies but was pleasantly surprised at the variety and the scope. Also the fact that my 4 friends are all getting different playthroughs is so cool, we all have different skills and weapons we are bringing to each other's world's when we play together (course not at once because there is 3 player coop for some reason, legit my only complaint, game is insanely good)
Just finished playing this game after 13 HOURS of gameplay and I'm gonna re-do it again; cause this game has so much replayability and is SO UNDERATED AND NOT KNOWN BY ENOUGH PEOPLE.
I feel like the other thing about it is exactly what you mentioned with the souls series, a lot of the narrative is actually done through writing that you find in game. Looking around and finding journalist and the notes and little knickknacks with descriptions really help flush out the lore of the world and why things are the way they are. It’s pretty great if that’s what you’re interested in delving into
Honestly, a phenomenal game. It's like a mix between resident evil 4, Hunter the reckoning, and dark souls. A great game, only $40 and would highly recommend.
Years ago there was supposed to be a game called ‘Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age’ a co op game that you defeated monsters. I know it turned into Hunt Showdown but I guarantee you that this game took inspiration from it.
@@zachconant7031 yep I was super excited for that game too, but that game turned into more of a pvp kinda game, which didn't really interest me at all anymore.
I've been REALLY burnt out on Souls-like games for a while now. A friend finally pushed me into playing it and I was surprised at how much fun it was. The narrative isn't remotely as strong as it should be but the drastically different worlds and bosses are pretty awesome. It definitely deserves to be played as a co-op game though.
So some things since this came out (at least on console.) There is built voice coms now. You can reset your campaign to play through a newly generated world with your character. The worlds and loot seem to adjust to your gear score (how upgraded your gear is). There are many sets of armor but yes it can be a minute before you run across them and they instances for them may not spawn in your campaign. But that in mind there is an adventure mode now where you can choose a world and run through it. Basically one map region with 3-5 randomly generated instances. This is great for farming gear and materials for upgrades and they can even spawn simulacrums which is needed to max out weapon/armor upgrades and the dragon heart. So if you want different gear hit the ward's crystal and drop down to world settings. If you've already ran an instance you get a cash reward instead of the unique loot.
Remnant of ashes is the sequel to Chronos Before the Ashes for anyone who did not know I love both these games so much one of my favorite games my brother got me into it worst part is finding players that want to explore and figure out the secrets. My other Friends are not into horror or gunning games like me The Story and all the side objectives you have to find on your own I love this part of the game. Also you can reroll levels which he did not mention which means you can find everything in your 1st playthrough. Everyone have a great Holiday and happy New Years .
the lore is actually genuinely really interesting and dark if you go out of your way to look for it. especially in the basement of ward 13, where you learn about dreamers and what the people who lived there before you did to them.
I just started playing this since it's on gamepass. It's lots of fun. It doesn't have the same depth as dark souls, but the co-op is super easy to use and very fun. Definitely worth playing if you like "souls" type games.
The Hit satisfaction of this game is also similar to RE4...The enemies are not bullet sponges and react to being hit by flinching and staggering and falling.. That is why it also has a great replay value same as RE4... Even if the story is bland... The gameplay more than makes up for it...
Lol that is true.. even thebone in the city with the sword. I was runnning away from him and he hit me woth the sword standing in the other side of the wall without break it
I love this game and I’m glad you reviewed it! I do think one of its major flaws is bosses though. If the bosses didn’t have the additional mobs attacking you, they would be super easy. I never finished the story yet, so I haven’t played on the harder difficulties. Regardless, it’s still one of my favorite games and I only learned about it a day before release
Remnant From the Ashes 2 most important tips for beginners: get the SMG (Sub Machine Gun) as fast as you can (there are TH-cam videos on how to get it early). It will save your life and a very decent mid game and late game weapon (Used it all the way on my first playthrough and finished the game faster than my friend [it took him 6 days longer]). I just found out about it today but use the dodge button all the time (even when you are in flames) even without rolling, if you are not avoiding with it, it will also reduce the damage. Also leveling up just 1 weapon can be a disadvantage with the enemy leveling with your most powerful one, try to spread it to 10 (to also unlock a skill). Now enjoy, this gem of a game.
Yea,no shit right. I think that would suck & ruin this game. Its cooler finding something well hidden & making what you have better vs finding hundreds of weapons and armour thrown around everywhere. I found an armour set after finding an area, having to look for A key card, look for A key, then opening A door & breaking A shelf & crawling through A hole into A secret room with A diary. That was awesome. Finding it in A chest on A street..Meh. And the story is great so far,I dont know what hes talking about.
There's actually a lot of story dispersed throughout the game. It's just easy to skip if you're not interested. The game is definitely more addictive, fun, and beautifully designed than I expected.
I'm playing it offline and i really hate that every single boss is a gank boss, they ALL spawn smaller enemies. playing it alone gets ridiculously teadious
@@blueape4808 I've completed all of them solo and it was a real pain. I absolutely loved this game but the bossfights, at least when playing solo, are imo the lowest point (except for some)
Really good example of a AA game. No loot boxes, microtransactions, really solid gameplay and voice work. Controls are tight, and it's not as unforgiving as typical souls games.
Everyone talking about 2:07 when he may have rolled away but timing is very important in these type of games and if you look he didn’t roll when the attack swung he rolled as soon as he saw the guy get ready to attack so too early

Playing for first time in 2023. This game is one of the best engaging games I have ever played. I highly recommend
Digging the game! Art direction is on point too. I think I'll make a cinematic gameplay edit. Has a Steampunk Western vibe with some Dark souls aspects
the other worlds also all feel very different which i am glad of
Have you tried Immortal: Unchained? But this one's better tenfold! It's about time there exist a proper Souls-shooter game. I would like a lock-on feature because there's a lot of times I need to reposition the camera after dodging. I love that now enemies can be hit and take damage from their colleagues like an AOE meant for me, their riotous adversary, also affects those nearby!
Why does everyone seem to forget Bloodbourne?? This is way more BB in my opinion. No shields & way more aggressive. Plus steampunk is closer to the Victorian Era than any Souls game, which is the feel this gives, which is Bloodbourne.
That’s exactly how I explained it to my roommate lol
Remnant is easily the only Souls-like game I ever had a shot at playing competently, lol.
@Lady Aranea Souls games arent that hard. Stop overexaggerting it's difficulty, just because casuals do.
@Lady Aranea Who hurt you? Lol
I MEANNNNNN EHHHHHH
@Lady Aranea Then you said the game is too easy? Implying the higher difficulty makes it a souls game?
I can read fine, you're the one who doesn't understand what you wrote.
Play Jedi: Fallen Order. That on highest difficulty is still easier than Remnant on hard imo.
Came from the PlayStation plus March games, I'm an avid Soulsborne player, and Remnant is such a great game. Such a shame there was little to no marketing on this game. This is definitely a hidden gem of a game. This game coupled with FF7, we really used up all our luck for this month lol.
It eludes me what would move a person to call himself a "soulsborne player." The internet was a mistake.
@@k_alex it eludes me what would bring such a pointless comment that wasn’t at all related to the video. Some people are mistakes.

"You can't block you can only dodge" "It's like Dark Souls but with guns"....so...Bloodborne?
Bloodborne but you have 99 bloodtinge and bone marrow ash but base strength and skill
Only if you get your ass kicked 2 minutes into the game...
This is an oldschool 3rd person shooter, but with items, npcs and grimdark. If it had some gigeresque creatures would it be a 3rd person Alien game? No.
It doesn't feel like bloodborne at all though.

I’m loving this game! There have been times when someone joins my world I cheer cause I needed help with the boss fight. There is in game chat.
You can reroll levels so you can unlock everything if you reroll the level over and over changes the whole level hun:)
Its just a fun game to get involved with. I have wanted to call in sick from work to play it. lol
This game is hands down one of my favorite games I’ve played in 2019. It’s so good!
Is it hard af? i still dont understand? I like a challenge but i dont like it when that challenge ruins the fun of the game for me. Thats honestly why im not a big fan of darksouls.
@@Holyshit40000 not as hard as DS or bloodborne , its totally manageable , im finding it way easier

It’s pretty great if that’s what you’re interested in delving into
I like the flow of combat especially when it get intense I’m dodging shooting and slicing all at once cause control of character works

It definitely deserves to be played as a co-op game though.
welp it's that time of the week again
No need to think, just buy. I did. And im glad i did
So some things since this came out (at least on console.) There is built voice coms now.

I completed the whole story within 17 hours of game time. I love the challenging concept that makes it difficult but seems possible
Couple years later, still one of the best games I have ever played
I just started playing this since it's on gamepass. It's lots of fun. It doesn't have the same depth as dark souls, but the co-op is super easy to use and very fun. Definitely worth playing if you like "souls" type games.
Kind of specific but, I personally haven't seen such good reload animations since RE4
The Hit satisfaction of this game is also similar to RE4...The enemies are not bullet sponges and react to being hit by flinching and staggering and falling.. That is why it also has a great replay value same as RE4... Even if the story is bland... The gameplay more than makes up for it...
Such a good review and well written. Just picked up the game and playing through with a friend. Good times... nah... great times
And bosses can strike you even if you're hiding behind a wall or something their sword or claws passes right through.

PS4 has in game chat. I have heard the squealing.
This game is amazing but please don't call it a looter shooter lol. Most definitely not a looter shooter
@Amel Catic I think he was referring to A vs B. Sometime later, you might have to do the same for C
I agree with. It's not a looter shooter. I own this game and I'm looking forward to discovering secrets and other things in this game
