i know jiraiya and naruto are good. but one thing should be noted that they both only did so much when pain tendo is not available. even naruto had to go berserk to fight a dying tendo. that is just how strong pain actually was, and how good the writing was until pain arc. we're shown how strong the villain is, but there's still a chance for the hero due to circumstances. unlike war arc which is totally nonsense for ME. they gave madara super plot armor and then didnt know how to kill him until he just got back stabbed by a nonsense side char.
