I don't understand why Kakashi would be "shocked" about Danzo dying. He literally had never seen him fight and nobody he knew had ever seen Danzo fight. He was a top figure in Konoha politically but there was no evidence that he would be a formidable fighter or not. He was the Third's rival but that was decades in the past and he should have become far weaker with age. If he didn't have the arm with Sharingans and Izanagi he would have been very easily disposed of by Sasuke and many others would be able to do the same.
He was the leader of root, he is in his own words a shadow kage, opposite to sandaime, his reputation in the roots points to powerful pollitically and raw power, he could even control kyubi with his sharingan.
